LAWRENCE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL ENDOWMENT ASSOCIATION 2015 ANNUAL REPORT

Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association provides the opportunity to share in the mission of the hospital through philanthropy. It secures financial support for hospital endeavors, charitable care, and community health education. The vision of Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association is to grow the endowment through the engagement of individuals in support of health and wellness.

Dear Friends of LMH, Since 1979, I have witnessed the growth and prosperity of our local community hospital. However, before my involvement with the LMH Endowment Board, the hospital was somewhat of an enigma in my mind. I knew it was there, but I didn’t fully realize the breadth of its competencies. Now, after six years of purposeful service on the board, I can proudly state that we are lucky to have such a highly ranked hospital in our community. Below are some amazing LMH statistics and achievements: • 250 exceptional physicians • 1,300 caring associates • More than 900 volunteers • 1,100 newborns last year • 37,000 treated in the Emergency Department last year • 4,700 inpatient surgeries last year • 3,600 outpatient surgeries last year • Named 100 Top Hospital by Truven Health Analytics for three consecutive years • Among 100 Great Community Hospitals, designated by Becker’s Hospital Review, for three consecutive years • Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission for four consecutive years • One of Health Care’s Most Wired Hospitals by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine for five consecutive years • Rated A1 by Moody’s Investors Service, which underscores the hospital’s financial responsibility • $23 million provided to LMH by Endowment Association since 1969 • LMH receives NO annual revenue from the City of Lawrence or Douglas County “Donors do not give to organizations because organizations have needs; they give because organizations MEET needs.” —Kay Sprinkel Grace According to the results just listed above, LMH not only meets needs, but exceeds them. It takes a dedicated team of administrators, medical staff, associates, volunteers and the supporting communities to succeed year after year. The inaugural Rock the Block/ Kick Cancer event (that replaced Stepping Out Against Breast Cancer) raised to help people receive mammograms if they cannot afford them. The event’s proceeds help provide equipment, services and pharmaceuticals for cancer patients.

Among our many generous donations: Eleanor Woodyard made a gift in memory of her late husband George W. Woodyard, a KU Spanish professor, that created the new $90,000 entryway at Radiation Oncology at LMH. ••• Avery Unruh, whose mother was being treated for colon cancer at LMH, saved her allowance and donated coloring books and colors for children at the hospital. ••• Stan and Lois Zaremba made possible a $50,000 renovation project at LMH Therapy Services. ••• And Becki and Gary Dick endowed a fund to help with the $12 million in indigent care LMH provides each year.

FINANCIALS In 2015, LMH Endowment Association received more than $2 million in contributions from individuals, families, groups, corporations and foundations. Nearly $1.6 million was distributed in 2015 for patient care; Lawrence Memorial Hospital program and services support; education; and administrative and fundraising costs, as well as the Endowment Associationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s commitment to hospital construction. LMH Endowment Association closed 2015 with assets of $11 million.
