CENTER FOR SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT STUDIES

Established in 1984, the Boeing Institute of International Business offers expansive global resources for students, alumni, the business community, faculty, government and professional organizations.

The Center for Supply Chain Management was established in 1998 with the mission of educating students and practitioners in the use and application of supply chain concepts and tools.

Highly recognized and respected, the institute has served as a pioneer in global business education for working professionals and for future leaders in the classroom. It was named the Boeing Institute of International Business in 1999 in recognition of a grant from the Boeing-McDonnell Foundation. The institute is spearheaded by Seung Kim, Ph.D., who serves as its director and as the chairman for the international business department. Kim strives to strengthen and expand SLU’s global programs through leadership and relationships.

The center provides training programs, events, publications and ongoing interaction with corporate supply chain professionals that are designed to keep supply chain managers aware of the industry’s ever-changing needs. CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP The Center for Entrepreneurship, founded in 1987, is only the 23rd such center in the U.S. Known for its innovative approach, the center has been a national leader in developing and pioneering programs that promote entrepreneurship through education for more than 25 years.

EMERSON LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE The Emerson Leadership Institute launched in 2015. With the formation of the Institute, the Cook School plans to better serve the business community in developing ethical leadership through community engagement programs, leadership education, hosting events and supporting research and scholarships.

The CORE ELEMENTS of the center’s work include: NETWORKING/MENTORING: The center’s programs, such as the Smurfit-Stone Hall of Fame and the Entrepreneurship Spotlight, connect entrepreneurs through networking, peer mentoring and other resources that can help them develop a successful business. COMPETITIONS/AWARDS: The center supports a variety of competitions throughout the campus and the SLU community, including the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards and the Innovation Challenge. DEVELOPMENT: The center provides students and alumni with opportunities and resources that bring their business plans to life, including the Billiken Angels Network and the Diamond in the Rough program.

SIMON CENTER FOR REGIONAL ECONOMIC FORECASTING The Simon Center for Regional Economic Forecasting uses the latest advances in econometrics and statistical forecasting to provide quantitative forecasts of important economic variables, including employment, unemployment and real personal income. The center also provides opportunities for community outreach, collaboration and partnership with businesses in the St. Louis region.

COOK BUSINESS SCHOLARS PROGRAM If you have an outstanding academic record, you may be eligible for the COOK BUSINESS SCHOLARS PROGRAM, which allows for the completion of a bachelor’s degree in business administration in only three calendar years. This unique program follows the same 120-credit-hour curriculum as the traditional four-year degree and helps you start the next phase of your life a year earlier, saving time and money.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS Cook Business Scholars are guaranteed enrollment in business classes (but not particular sections) and benefit from specialized advising and mentoring. They generally take six classes each fall and spring semester and one to two classes over the summer.

Qualifying students who indicate their intention to enroll in the John Cook School of Business on their application for freshman admission will receive more information about the Cook Business Scholars Program in the spring. B.S./J.D. 3+3 ACCELERATED PROGRAM

+ ACT score of at least 30 or combined SAT score of at least 1330 (math and critical reading)

Cook Business Scholars interested in going on to law school can take advantage of the B.S./J.D. 3+3 Accelerated Program to earn their bachelor’s in business and Juris Doctor from SLU in only six years instead of the traditional seven.

+ Cumulative high school GPA of 3.75 (weighted or unweighted), as reported on your high school transcript at the end of your junior year

ACCOUNTING SCHOLARS PROGRAM If you’re interested in accounting, you have two programs of study to choose from: a 120-credit-hour, four-year BACHELOR’S DEGREE or a five-year, 150-credit-hour MASTER OF ACCOUNTING DEGREE. The master’s option includes one year of graduate-level coursework and fulfills the 150-credit-hour requirement to sit for the CPA exam in most states.

INTEGRATED ACCOUNTING PROGRAM For students who pursue the Master of Accounting degree, Saint Louis University offers an integrated accounting program that bridges the undergraduate and graduate levels of study. Accounting Scholars in this program are permitted to take graduate-level coursework during their senior year and earn their bachelor’s and master’s degrees concurrently. In addition to providing a seamless educational path, the integrated accounting program allows you to maximize your SLU financial aid opportunities and apply your scholarships to advanced coursework.

ACCOUNTING SCHOLARS PROGRAM The Accounting Scholars Program is available to incoming freshmen whose high school scholastic achievement and admission test scores demonstrate superior academic potential. Accounting Scholars who complete the program requirements are guaranteed a seat in the integrated accounting program and given priority consideration for graduate level scholarships. Qualifying students who indicate accounting as their program of study on the application for freshman admission will receive more information about the Accounting Scholars Program in the spring.

WHY COMPLETE AN INTERNSHIP?

In today’s competitive business environment, gaining career-related work experience as a student is vital to finding success as a graduate. The Cook School’s internship program includes resources on finding an internship, refining your resume, writing a cover letter and developing your interview skills.

Internships are available to junior or senior business students and connect their classroom learning with practical skills in a professional work environment. Typically, internships are one to two semesters in length. Some students may be involved in several internship experiences over the course of their college career.

The Cook School’s reputation as a leader in business education allows it to maintain relationships with employers in the St. Louis region and throughout the U.S. that represent a variety of industries, including corporate, government and nonprofit organizations.

Internships can be paid or unpaid, but internships formalized through the Cook Schools’ undergraduate internship coordinator can provide up to three hours of course credit. Students must meet certain requirements of the Cook School and their concentration area before credit can be granted.

ENHANCE YOUR BUSINESS SKILLS A portfolio of international business skills is necessary for professionals operating in today’s global market. To differentiate yourself, you need to be aware of how cultural, social, economic, political, religious and geographic differences affect business. A semester abroad is a great way to enhance your education and learn about another culture. Full immersion into another country provides a heightened understanding of and a sensitivity to the differences among people around the world.

SERVICE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM The Service Leadership Program at Saint Louis University’s John Cook School of Business provides you with the opportunity to develop and hone your leadership skills while serving the St. Louis community. By volunteering at organizations such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, Campus Kitchen or one of the many other available service sites, you will practice critical thinking, decision-making, effective communication and team building. These are some of the skills that will help you become a more effective future business leader.

BECOMING A SERVICE LEADER AT SLU Community Service There are many diverse opportunities for service leaders to complete the required 300 hours of community service, and each one gives you a unique opportunity to gain meaningful leadership experience and make personal connections. If you enjoy working with children, consider volunteering at the Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club. If you are interested in international business, check out the International Institute of Metropolitan St. Louis. If you like teaching, spend time with an after-school tutoring program, such as Third Baptist Church. Coursework The required 15 credit hours of coursework can be fulfilled through the normal business degree requirements. Leadership Workshops Each year, 10 leadership workshops are offered with topics ranging from humor to ethical decision-making and from personal reflection to professionalism. Service leaders are not required to attend each one, but should pick workshops that will be most helpful in promoting their individual growth as a leader. They are expected to complete 24 workshops by the time they finish the Service Leadership Program.
