Welcome... It’s time to make those New Year resolutions, the changes in your life that are going to make ‘all the difference’. Mostly though, we are well aware that this new change will be lucky to make it to the end of January. We all start with the best of intentions, but fail miserably - or is that just me? My resolution this time is not to give anything up, it’s to make more time. Life becomes so hectic and it passes so quickly that it’s easy to lose sight of what’s really important, namely your family and friends. My best friend from school and in fact many years after, until our lives went in different directions, recently passed away. We didn’t make the time, ...I didn’t make time, and now sadly it is too late.

CHARITY CHALLENGE
Cycle From Paris to Nottingham Local businessman Clive Whiting, who has hosted a number of charity dinners over the years and raised thousands of pounds for good causes, this year set himself a greater challenge. Greater in terms of the amount he would hope to raise, and also greater in the personal challenge he would set himself in order to achieve it. The challenge was supported by a number of local and national sporting stars in helping to raise money and in reaching the total of £38,000
Raising Money To Support Good Causes Within Your Community!
The money raised has now been distributed to the good causes within the community, that the charity challenge was in aid of. LJS Foundation £10,000, Marie Curie £2,000, Clifton All Whites £6,000, Education For Children £1,000, Karen Green Foundation £7,000, Beeston Hockey Club £7,500 and Rutland House School For Parents £2,300.
The challenge starting on May 20th 2013 was to cycle from Paris to Nottingham in 7 days. Normally that is no mean feat, but that was before taking into account that he is up against another cyclist, Kelly, who at 26 was not only half Clive’s age, but also at the time nearly half his weight. Weighing in at over 19 stone, Clive’s training had to start early. The cycles, kindly donated by Longdale Lightweights and sponsored by Bridgegate Security and Palmers of Trent Bridge, could not support over 15 stone for the duration of the journey. Clive therefore, through diet and exercise, had to lose 4 stone in just over 4 months to even take part, which was a challenge in itself.
The money was raised by sponsorship of the event, individual shirt sponsors worn each day by both Clive and Kelly, a dinner dance held at Blotts country club and the kind donations of friends, business colleagues and people of Nottingham who supported the challenge.
CITY LIFE & COUNTY LIVING
Clive stepped up to the challenge, losing the weight and completing the challenge. He was, joined by David Johnson for the last leg, passing the finishing line ahead of Kelly and in the process raising the £38,000 for good causes.

Last Vegas
20
Starring four legends like you’ve never seen them before, “Last Vegas” tells the story of Billy, Paddy, Archie and Sam (played by Academy-Award winners Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline), best friends since childhood. When Billy, the group’s sworn bachelor, finally proposes to his thirty-something (of course) girlfriend, the four head to Las Vegas with a plan to stop acting their age and relive their glory days. However, upon arriving, the four quickly realize that the decades have transformed Sin City and tested their friendship in ways they never imagined. The Rat Pack may have once played the Sands and Cirque du Soleil may now rule the Strip, but it’s these four who are taking over Vegas. Last Vegas is warm, touching and, most of all, very funny.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on an epic quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain and the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. Having survived the beginning of their unexpected journey, the Company continues East, encountering along the way the skin-changer Beorn and a swarm of giant Spiders in the treacherous forest of Mirkwood. After escaping capture by the dangerous Wood-elves, the Dwarves journey to Lake-town, and finally to the Lonely Mountain itself, where they must face the greatest danger of all - a creature more terrifying than any other; one which will test not only the depth of their courage but the limits of their friendship and the wisdom of the journey itself - the Dragon Smaug.
The Wolf Of Wall Street The movie The Wolf Of Wall Street is the fifth big screen collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese; following Gangs Of New York, The Aviator, The Departed and Shutter Island. Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his roles in his first three Martin Scorsese movies. By day he made thousands of dollars a minute. By night he spent it as fast as he could, on drugs, sex, and international globe-trotting. From the binge that sank a 170-foot motor yacht, crashed a Gulfstream jet, and ran up a $700,000 hotel tab, to the wife and kids who waited for him at home, and the fast-talking, hard-partying young stockbrokers who called him king and did his bidding, here, in his own inimitable words, is the story of the ill-fated genius they called…The Wolf.

Labor Day
Global action star Liam Neeson stars in NON-STOP, a suspense thriller played out at 40,000 feet in the air. During a transatlantic flight from New York City to London, U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks (Neeson) receives a series of cryptic text messages demanding that he instruct the government to transfer $150 million into an off-shore account. Until he secures the money, a passenger on his flight will be killed every 20 minutes. NON-STOP.
Labor Day centers on 13-year-old Henry Wheeler, who struggles to be the man of his house and care for his reclusive mother Adele while confronting all the pangs of adolescence. On a back-to-school shopping trip, Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers, a man both intimidating and clearly in need of help, who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape them for the rest of their lives.
The Monuments Men
47 Ronin
Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action drama focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements. From director George Clooney, the film stars George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, and Cate Blanchett.
Keanu Reeves makes an explosive return to action-adventure in 47 Ronin. After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honour to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves) – a half-breed they once rejected – as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.

R.Kelly - Black Panties [Deluxe Edition] [Explicit Lyrics] The controversial “King of R&B” follows up his 2012 effort Write Me Back with this, his 12th studio album. Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Kelly is a consummate artist and showman, and here he ditches the retro influence of his recent albums for a record which combines the raw, explicit sexuality of his early releases with a contemporary technological twist. The singles “My Story,” “Tear It Up,” and the sleek, erotic slow jam “Genius” are included.

Asked to compare Shangri La with its predecessor, Bugg concludes: ‘My first album felt like a list of songs, whereas this one feels like a whole entity with something to say. Or if my first album was the colour of grey reality, this one’s the colour of the sun’. The colour of our planet’s nearest star. Or maybe the sound of a new star intensifying their musical colours.
Bruce Springsteen - High Hopes Bruce Springsteen’s new album ‘High Hopes’ finds Springsteen in a number of different musical settings, and includes the members of the E Street Band as well as guitarist Tom Morello and many additional players. The album was recorded in New Jersey, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Australia and New York City and marks Springsteen’s 18th studio album. CELEBRITY PROFILE
Matt Damon
CITY LIFE & COUNTY LIVING
Despite his all-American persona, actor Matt Damon has thrived in roles that ran counter to his apple-pie image. Whether playing a combative mathematics genius, a serial killer hunting the rich and famous or a lethal spy unable to recall his identity, Damon built a strong and respected career tackling characters against type.
26
After appearing in several supporting roles, Damon forged his own path with best friend Ben Affleck by writing and starring in “Good Will Hunting” (1997), which earned the duo an Academy Award for Best Screenplay while opening numerous doors. From there, he delivered a brief but acclaimed performance as the titular soldier in “Saving Private Ryan” (1998), followed by a more devious part as a social-climbing killer in “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999). Though he stalled a bit with “The Legend of Bagger Vance” (2000) and “All the Pretty Horses” (2000), Damon became a bona fide star by aptly trading one-liners with the likes of George Clooney and Brad Pitt in the stylish action comedy “Ocean’s Eleven” (2001) and its sequels. But Damon became his own man with “The Bourne Identity” (2002), which allowed him to solo drive a successful action franchise that earned big box-office dollars and critical acclaim across the board. By the time he landed a meaty leading role in Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning thriller, “The Departed” (2006), Damon was one of the biggest stars working in Hollywood. Damon was born on Oct. 8, 1970 in Cambridge, MA and raised in nearby Newton. His father, Kent, was a stockbroker and his mother, Nancy, a professor of early childhood education at Lesley College.
When Damon was two years old, his parents divorced, leaving him to be reared by his mother in a commune-style home back in Cambridge. Because of the open and creative environment, Damon developed a taste for artistic endeavors at an early age. Although he acted onstage in school plays and declared his intention to pursue that career when he enrolled at Harvard University, Damon found it difficult at first. He made his feature debut screen with a one-line role of Adam Storke’s younger brother in “Mystic Pizza” (1988). In 1991, Damon ditched Harvard choosing instead to co-star opposite Brian Dennehy as a medical school dropout in the made-for-cable movie, “Rising Son” . With his acting career on the rise, he excelled as an anti-Semitic preppie in “School Ties” (1992), but later stated that the competition for the roles in his age range was fierce. Nearly all the young men in “School Ties” had auditioned for the co-starring role in “Scent of a Woman” (also 1992), but that plum role opposite an Oscarwinning Al Pacino went to Chris O’Donnell. In fact, Damon and O’Donnell often competed for roles, with the latter generally winning out. Meanwhile, Damon proved adequate as the narrator of Walter Hill’s revisionist Western “Geronimo: An American Legend” (1993),
only to be overshadowed by more seasoned actors, notably Gene Hackman and Wes Studi. On the other hand, he all but pulled the rug out from under Denzel Washington in “Courage Under Fire” (1996), offering a vivid turn as a guilt-ridden veteran of the Persian Gulf War tormented by an incident in battle. He even lost 40 pounds to achieve the gaunt, haunted look of the character.
Director Stephen Spielberg tapped Damon to play the title role in the World War II epic “Saving Private Ryan” (1998), a film worthy of critical praise for its showy camerawork and impressively staged battle set pieces. As the soldier whose three brothers have been killed in action, the all-American looking Damon was in only the last third of the film, but still managed to make a significant impression. He fared less well as the poker hustler-turned-law student who agrees to help his ex-con best friend in “Rounders” (1998). In this redux of Martin Scorsese’s “Mean Streets” (1974), Damon relied on his winning personality, warm smile and good looks than on his acting ability, giving more of a movie star portrayal than a real performance. Repaying writer-producerdirector Kevin Smith for his assistance on “Good Will Hunting,” he joined Affleck to play a pair of fallen angels trying to get back into heaven in the oddly dark comedy, “Dogma” (1999). Damon followed by undertaking the more challenging title role of an American who decides to murder his traveling companion (Jude Law) and assume his identity in Anthony Minghella’s well-crafted “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999), resulting in one of the actor’s most intense performance. Newcomer Law received the lion’s share of the spotlight after giving a charming performance, but it was Damon’s obsessive, bespectacled killer who was the glue that held the beautifully shot film together. Damon’s career hit a brief but worrisome slump with the release of three creative and box office duds in a row: director Robert Redford’s lethargic “The Legend of Bagger Vance,” with Damon as a washed up golf pro opposite wise caddy Will Smith; “All the Pretty Horses,” director Billy Bob Thornton’s failed adaptation of novelist Cormac McCarthy’s romantic Western; and a small supporting turn in Van Sant’s by-the-numbers “Finding Forrester” (2000). The actor recaptured his A-list caché when he joined the all-star cast of Steven Soderbergh’s remake of “Ocean’s Eleven,”
Over the years, Damon cultivated a reputation as one of the most affable movie actors in Hollywood and frequently collaborated with friends to give their projects a boost. His desire to help others get their careers off the ground led he and Affleck to create the HBO reality series, “Project: Greenlight” (2001-02), which documented and bankrolled untried aspiring filmmakers’ attempts to create a motion picture to be released by Miramax; the show resulted in the films “Stolen Summer” (2002) and “The Battle of Shaker Heights” (2003), both executive produced by Affleck and Damon. The duo also created and produced the short-lived “Push, Nevada” (ABC, 200203), an interactive mystery show that gave viewers the chance to solve the crime and win $1 million. Damon also had a cameo in films by his friend, Kevin Smith, including “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” (2001) and “Jersey Girl” (2004); and in films from his “Ocean’s Eleven” collaborators, including “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” (2002); and up-and-coming filmmaker pals, such as the creators of the comedy “Eurotrip” (2004). As a voice actor, Damon lend his distinctive vocals to the films “Titan A.E.” (2000), “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron” (2002), “The Majestic” (2001), and “Howard Zinn: You Can’t Be Neutral on a Moving Train” (2004). Demonstrating his increasing diversity and believability, Damon took on the role of the amnesiac über-spy Jason Bourne in the film adaptation of Robert Ludlum’s sprawling espionage novel, “The Bourne Identity” (2002), a crackerjack thriller that did solid box office business and became a megahit on home video. The actor would reprise the role for the equally well-crafted but ultimately unsatisfying sequel “The Bourne Supremacy” (2004). Demonstrating a flair

When he was at Harvard, Damon began writing a script about a troubled mathematics genius with childhood buddy Affleck. They fashioned a screenplay that soon became the talk of Hollywood, with studios bidding competitively for the project. Old friend and director Kevin Smith did his best to get it noticed by the Weinstein brothers at Miramax, going to bat for his two buddies. In 1994, Castle Rock initially purchased the rights for over a half-million dollars in a pay-or-play deal. The story then focused on Will, a South Boston resident with superior intelligence whom the government attempts to recruit. A year later, with the project in turnaround, Miramax purchased the rights and the script evolved to focus more strongly on the emotional difficulties of the leading character. Before “Good Will Hunting” went before the cameras, however, Damon landed his first screen lead as a newlyminted crusading attorney in Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of “John Grisham’s ‘The Rainmaker’” (1997). The one-two punch of the two leading roles - undoubtedly assisted by the resulting mythology building for Damon and Affleck as writers and actors - solidified the actor’s status as the so-called “It” boy of 1997, along with Affleck. Earning a Best Actor Academy Award nomination and sharing an Oscar win for Best Screenplay with Affleck only upped his profile and provided Academy Award history with one of its most fairy tale-like moments when, as their respective mothers sat in the audience, the two young men ran cheering to the stage, breathlessly thanking everyone in funny, quick succession. The twosome came off as simply normal guys who had struggled to make it in showbiz and finally hit the big time - something many people could relate
to, thus making their win that much sweeter.
playing pick-pocket and aspiring big-time thief, Linus Caldwell, in the popular hit - a role he returned to for the sequels “Ocean’s Twelve” (2004) and Ocean’s Thirteen” (2007). His next film was a complete aboutface from a polished crowd-pleaser: Damon and Casey Affleck starred (and co-wrote) the largely improvised drama “Gerry” (2002), a little-seen effort directed by Van Sant about two men named Gerry who are stranded in the desert during a hiking mishap. Although an intriguing experiment, it proved to be unfit for mainstream audiences.

for goofball comedy, Damon delivered a wickedly funny turn on the small screen as Jack’s scheming rival to join the gay men’s chorus in a 2002 episode of the hit NBC sitcom “Will & Grace;” a role he reprised the following season. Damon next literallyjoined Greg Kinnear to play one-half of a pair of conjoined twins in the flawed but still winning comedy, “Stuck On You” (2003), a silly romp from the Farrelly Brothers that proved to be a rare miss for the filmmaking duo.

His next film cast him opposite Heath Ledger as a fictionalized version of Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, the Bavarian fairy tale spinners known as “The Brothers Grimm” (2005), reimagined by director Terry Gilliam as a pair of curse-removing con artists who are suddenly tasked with solving a genuine mystery that will ultimately inspire their famous stories. Damon showed a great deal of panache and charisma as practical scoundrel Wilhelm, but the story ultimately left him too little to do; the film itself lacked the spark and imagination expected of a Gilliam project. Behind the scenes, Damon was credited with frequently playing peacemaker between the embattled Gilliam and the films’ producers, the Weinstein brothers. At the end of that year Damon delivered a fine turn in the complex potboiler, “Syriana” (2005), playing an oil industry analyst living a comfortable life in Geneva until the death of his son while visiting an oil-rich country, drives him to obsession with helping the country’s benevolent prince (Alexander Siddig) raise his nation with sound business dealings.

Damon next joined an all-star cast that included Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg and Jack Nicholson for “The Departed” (2006), playing a hardened criminal employed by a crime syndicate who infiltrates the police while his counterpart (DiCaprio) on the force g s undercover in the mob. Based on the excellent Hong Kong action thriller, “Infernal Affairs” (2002) and directed by Martin Scorsese, “The Departed” earned a huge helping critical kudos prior to its release as well as several Academy Award wins. In “The Good Shepherd” (2006), a historical look at the beginnings of the CIA, Damon played Edward Wilson, a bright, idealistic Yale student recruited by the OSS to work intelligence during World War II. While later helping to form the CIA, he becomes disenfranchised during the heightened suspicions and deep-rooted
paranoia of the Cold War. In 2007, Damon revived two favourite characters for a second time, appearing as Linus Caldwell in the much-improved “Ocean’s Thirteen” (2007), and Jason Bourne for “The Bourne Ultimatum” (2007), who comes out of retirement to defeat arch rival, The Jackal, in a once-and-for-all showdown. In 2009, Damon made a cameo appearance on the hit Hollywood sitcom, “Entourage” (HBO, 2004-2011), playing a hyper-real version of himself in an effort to pressure Vince Chase (Adrian Grenier) into donating money to his real-life charity, OneXOne, only to grow more and more angry as Vince continues to avoid him. Back in features, he reunited with Steven Soderbergh to star in “The Informant!” (2009), a dark political comedy in which he portrayed Mark Whitacre, a former high-ranking executive at Archer Daniels Midland who blew the whistle on the company’s illegal price-fixing scheme, only to find himself in trouble with the FBI himself when they discover he has embezzled $9 million. The role earned Damon a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in Musical or Comedy. He next starred in “Invictus” (2009), director Clint Eastwood’s compelling sports drama about how Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) joined forces with South African rugby star Francois Pienaar (Damon) to unite their country. Damon earned his second Golden Globe nomination that year, this time for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, as well as Screen Actors Guild and Oscar nominations in the supporting category. After reteaming with Greengrass for the war thriller “Green Zone” (2010), Damon played a factory worker who communicates with the dead in Clint Eastwood’s “Hereafter” (2010). Also that year, he delivered a fine performance as Texas Ranger La Boeuf, who joins a determined 14-year-old (Hailee Steinfeld) and a gruff bounty hunter (Jeff Bridges) in tracking down a notorious gunman (Josh Brolin) in the Coen Brothers’ Oscar-nominated Western, “True Grit” (2010). In a rare small screen turn, Damon played the pilot boyfriend of Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) in episodes of “30 Rock” (NBC, 2006-2013), which earned him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. He also served as the narrator for “Inside Job” (2010), the Academy Award-winning documentary that
explored the root causes and high-level players involved in the 2008 economic crisis that revealed widespread corruption by U.S. financial services. The following year, Damon starred in “The Adjustment Bureau” (2011), a romantic thriller about a man fighting for his own destiny that was loosely based on the Philip K. Dick short story “The Adjustment Team.” The film proved to be a moderate hit with both critics and audiences. Not done by a long shot, Damon had much more to offer that year. He reteamed with Soderbergh once more for a 21stcentury update of the disaster movie with “Contagion” (2011), in which he played a father desperately trying to save what remains of his family after a deadly pandemic rapidly depopulates the earth. On a lighter note, he lent his voice to the microbial Bill the Krill, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery with his pal Will (Pitt) in director George Miller’s animated sequel “Happy Feet Two” (2011). The industrious actor then capped off the year by starring in director Cameron Crowe’s endearing comedy-drama “We Bought a Zoo” (2011), the story about a man and his family whose recently purchased home contains a fully stocked zoo that has fallen into disrepair. Clearly catching his breath, Damon had a relatively quiet 2012, with his only feature release of the year being “Promising Land,” another thoughtful collaboration with Van Sant-this time focusing on the issue of fracking in a script that he co-wrote with fellow star John Krasinski. In 2013, Damon portrayed the gay lover of Liberace (Michael Douglas) in Soderbergh’s esteemed HBO TV movie, “Behind the Candelabra.” Shifting gears radically, he next endured futuristic slum life and being turned into a weapon of class warfare in the high-concept film “Elysium” (2013), remarkably the actor’s first live-action outing to fall unquestionably into clear-cut science-fiction territory.

10 TOP TIPS FOR
MARKETING YOUR BUSINESS
Fiona Duncan, RSViP Business Network www.rsvipnetwork.co.uk
CITY LIFE & COUNTY LIVING
1.Website. Your website is the window to your business- what do you do the moment you hear of a company that interests you? You 'Google' (other search engines are available) their company name to find their 'website'. Some sites are often simply used as an online brochure to showcase that businesses services, however others are much more functional and encourage online interactivity; for example by incorporating blogs and social media, but whatever style of website you opt for, just ensure you have one and most importantly that it can be found via SEO (Search engine optimisation). 2. Leaflets/brochures. With everything going 'digital' these days, it is easy to forget about the simple yet effective forms of marketing we all relied so heavily on 'back in the day' and so having 'hard copy' information to hand, such as leaflets and brochures which sum up and explain your business services are always useful- my advice is to have some up to date versions printed every few months. 3.Social Media. One of the world's biggest obsessions is Social media for both business and personal use, with 93% of marketers using social media for business, with an average of 190 million Tweets being posted per day and two new members joining LinkedIn every second, it is imperative that every business gets on board- and above all -it is FREE! 4. Advertising. This comes in many forms- magazine, newspaper, radio, TV, transport, billboard etc, all of which will cost you money, so choosing which would work best for your business is the most important aspect when deciding where to use your budget- most of these options will offer free information, rate cards and media packs, so spend a bit of time doing your research and get requesting, so that you can make an informed decision before committing. 5.Word of Mouth. Word of mouth is the most priceless form of marketing – if someone likes what you do, they will tell an average of six other people- think how that could escalate? Before you know it you have gained new business from recommendation and referral and all you had to do to get it was to conduct your business in the appropriate way, offer exceptional customer service and manage your customer's expectations. 6.E-Marketing. Or 'Email Marketing' is a great way of spreading the word of your business at a quick rate. Keep a database. You should always ensure you input and update your database regularly with new and potential clients (with their permission). Gaining new data can also be done by adding a 'subscribe' option on your website to allow people for example to subscribe to your free newsletter- this is a sure fire way of capturing details of those who are interested in your services, so that you can keep them up to date with new products and services. 7.Exhibitions/Events.Depending on the nature of your business and your demographic, these are not necessarily for everyone, however business exhibitions and events have really become a huge form of effective marketing, due to the opportunities they provide, such as allowing businesses to interact, network and above all 'showcase' their wares and services to an audience specific to their market8.Radio. Radio advertising is not necessarily the cheapest form of advertising your business, but for some companies it is the perfect way of spreading the word, whether it is regionally or nationally, a catchy jingle or attention grabbing voice-over is often one of the best ways to get across to an extremely wide audience. 9.Video Marketing.Nothing works better than the theory of 'seeing it for yourself' and so a good quality promotional video that represents your company and shows at a glance what it is you offer as a service is a great form of marketing and as we are in the digital age, it will show that you are moving with the times and are forward thinking. 10. Networking. Networking in my opinion is one of the most cost effective and productive forms of gaining new business. Baring in mind it is no quick fix, networking is about building relationships over a period of time through face to face meetings or at organised events, often B2B (business to business) with some network events offering industry specific opportunities and others offering a more diverse range of industry professionals for you to meet, but whichever style is for you make sure you make a conscious effort to get networking in 2014!

There are very many beautiful restaurants in this round up, but how many can you say will look different each time you visit? Yet that’s the bold concept at this Upper East Side eaterie: it wholesale changes the décor every season, four times a year. The 48 hour transition is spectacular, and goes beyond a publicity gimmick, the menu switch emphasizes seasonality and availability. The weather outside is evident in the cuisine, the room dressing, the waiters’ uniforms and the drinks. Currently a symphony of rich browns and golds as Park Avenue Autumn, talented young chef Kevin Lasko and chef-partner Craig Koketsu have taken autumn's harvest and applied techniques to bring out the best in them, such as roasting and braising. Try Local Diver Scallops with Lemongrass and Honeycrisp Apples, Fig Carpaccio with Hoja Santa Goat Cheese, Lamb Shank with Spaghetti Squash, Mint and Pistachios, or Seared Salmon with Celery RootApple Purée. In addition to the main menu offerings, Koketsu offers extra ‘fall festival treats’ with dishes like Kentucky Fried Quail n’ Waffles and, for dessert, the witty Fairground Favourites: Candied Apple, Snow Cone and Cotton Candy that can be washed down with Autumn’s Carny Cocktail: a can of Budweiser. Giving Time Out New York his tour of the city earlier this year, comic Ricky Gervais said: “Me and my girlfriend have an apartment on 63rd Street near the park, and when we’re in town for a few days, we always do the same things. We usually arrive at the weekend and spend the first night at our favuorite restaurant, Park Avenue…the food and service are fantastic.” It transforms into Park Avenue Winter in November, or you can wait for spring… www.parkavenyc.com

ALAIN DUCASSE AU PLAZA ATHENEE, PARIS ‘Opulence? Alain Ducasse might have invented the word. His restaurant at the swish Paris hotel Plaza Athenée is pretty much the last word in luxury. Some 10,000 illuminated pendants hang from the ceiling, the staff wear uniforms designed by Georges Feghaly, and a plate of langoustines and beluga caviar will set you back €175,’ say the judges of the San Pellegrino 50 Best Restaurants, which put this upscale dining experience at No.41. Clementine-colour tablecloths and space-age creamand-orange chairs with pullout plastic trays for business meetings provide an upbeat setting for the cooking of young Ducasse protégé chef Christophe Moret. (It’s accepted that Ducasse himself is rarely in the kitchen at his numerous ventures, it’s also accepted that he has assembled teams of exceptional precision and flair so you won’t miss him.) A meal here is delightfully luxe, starting with a heavenly amusebouche of langoustine with caviar and a tangy lemon cream. You can continue with a truffle-and-caviar fest, or opt for more down-to-earth dishes like lobster in spiced wine with quince or saddle of lamb with sautéed artichokes. Attention to detail is incredible: just look up the YouTube clip of a waiter snipping fresh herbs to make a pot of tea if you don’t believe us, a piece of beside-the-table theatre for customers. The prices make this a once-in-alifetime blow-out for most of us mere mortals. Remember, the dress code states jacket required and tie recommended. www.plaza-athenee-paris.com
THE WOLSELEY, LONDON
www.thewolseley.com
CITY LIFE & COUNTY LIVING
Housed in a Grade II listed building, The Wolseley is a café-restaurant in the grand European tradition located in St James’ on London’s most famous of boulevards, Piccadilly, next door to the Ritz. And it certainly doesn’t lack what property shows coined as ‘wow factor.’ In 1921, Wolseley Motors Limited commissioned the architect, William Curtis Green, to design a prestigious car showroom in London’s West End. He drew on Venetian and Florentine influences and made the interior very atmospheric with its grand pillars, arches and stairways. The Wolseley cars were displayed on the marble floor and cost between £225 - £1300. Unfortunately, the cars did not sell well enough and by 1926 the company was bankrupt. Barclays Bank acquired the building, trading there until 1999. Chris Corbin and Jeremy King secured the site in July 2003 and its restoration and renovation was overseen by David Collins Architects. (Designer to Madonna and the Lace Market Hotel’s Saint Bar in Nottingham.) The Wolseley opened in November 2003 – and didn’t disappoint. Its vaulted ceilings, chandeliers and classic early 20th century opulence transports you back to the roaring ‘20s. The perfectly-rendered desserts are a must, or try smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on a toasted brioche or Eggs Benedict, with a Bloody Mary. If you’re there later in the day, the seafood platter, oysters or steak frites are all superb. The Guardian said: ‘It's insanely grand and glam - and it transforms breakfast into a fabulous event.’ Just one problem - it’s so popular with celebs you may find yourself looking at the stars instead of the ceiling.

GILT, NEW YORK What, another place in NYC, you cry? Well, yes. Other culinary capitals can match the East Coast for amazing cooking, but between the restrained minimalism of Japan, laidback air in Australia and rustic simplicity of Scandinavia (the San Pellegrino current Best Restaurant in the World, Noma, is in Copenhagen) it’s left to the locale with an empire state of mind to come up with the really eye-popping napery. Designer Patrick Jouin has produced Gilt in a series of sumptuous, historic rooms in The New York Palace Hotel on Madison Avenue in midtown Manhattan. It’s fair to say imagination has run riot with entirely theatrical results that never tip into bad taste. Dominated by a lilac, oyster-shaped structure and a white Corian bar, the restaurant resembles something from a futuristic film set. Awe-inspiring dishes by chef Christopher Lee are served to diners in a setting beautifully complemented by Jouin's custom-made furniture. As for the bar, if you want to live out Carrie Bradshaw dreams, you really couldn’t find anywhere that feels more big city dressy and cool. Gossip Girl is just one small-screen series to use the bar as a location. (In the show, the penthouse atop the hotel is home to the van der Woodsen family and Chuck Bass, and the hotel is owned by his real estate tycoon dad, Bart Bass.) A pre-dinner cocktail is a must: try a blackberry mojito. The French-with-atwist food has earned two Michelin stars, with dishes including truffle fries, every bit as decadent as they sound. www.giltnewyork.com

THE MIRABELLE, ROME
38
The Mirabelle is part of five star Hotel Splendide Royal Rome was restored from its origins as a 19th-century palace. Its rococo, sumptuous decor and furnishings recreate the noble palaces of the Roman aristocracy. The flouncy, colourful, ultraluxurious decor is defiantly anti-minimalism and full of gilt, marble, lilies and Murano glass chandeliers. Artists like Bernini, Borromini and Pietro da Cortona would no doubt be proud of the way the Hotel Splendide brings the city’s Baroque period back to life. If you like clean, simple design, this isn’t the one for you! However, if you like to feel you’re in a James Bond film, you just might. Awarded with a Michelin star, the restaurant is a meeting point among the Italian and international ‘bel mondo.’ The hotel bar will certainly mix a mean Martini. The restaurant is located on the hotel's 7th floor, where huge glass terrace doors open out onto a view of breathtaking beauty: a panorama which sweeps across the Eternal City from the 19th century palaces of Pinciano, Villa Medici, Trinità dei Monti all the way to Saint Peter's and to the Gianicolo. Try to get a table on the terrace if you can, then sit back and enjoy the view inside and out, as waiters in their black ties and aprons lift silver domes with a flourish at the gold-tablecloth covered tables. The cuisine offers traditional Italian recipes - expect exquisite risottos, fresh pasta and fish dishes – alongside European and North African influences. Among the chef’s recommendations are ‘cappellotti with mascarpone and orange and white goose ragout’ and ‘seabass, scampi and tuna tartare with spiced cous cous.’ www.mirabelle.it

ASIATE, MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL, NEW YORK
www.mandarinoriental.com

On the 35th floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel, ‘Easily the most beautiful room you could ever eat in, with panoramic views of Central Park and Midtown,’ said one diner, ‘A dreamlike setting,’ raved another. Asiate may be sequestered in one of the Big Apple’s ritzier hotels but its appeal is far wider than just the building’s overnight guests. Designed by acclaimed restaurant designer Tony Chi, the dramatic entrance to Asiate features floor-to-ceiling walls of wine which house an impressive collection of over 1,300 bottles. It’s won Best Décor in the esteemed Zagat for the last two years on the trot. A glittering tree-branch sculpture hangs from Asiate's ceiling, replicating the trees in Central Park. In many restaurants, the kind of breath-taking views that Asiate boasts would drag you away from the food or the dining room, but here they match the spectacular nature of the vista. The menu is Asian fusion with modern American, so you get flavoursome crab meat in a sweetcorn bisque, or a stunning, delicate sashimi appetizer (avocado mousse, cucumber melon gelee, mustard ponzu and wagu beef.) If you’re lucky enough to be staying and fancy brekkie, we recommend the Asiate turkey hash (honey roasted turkey, red potatoes, carrots onions, fresh herbs, poached eggs and miso-mustard hollandaise served with breakfast toast) and a soy milk and lavender honey smoothie. The Japanese Breakfast is grilled salmon, kombu salad, sautéed spinach, mushrooms, poached egg, pickled vegetables, steamed rice, miso soup choice of illy coffee or proper tea. ‘Asiate would bring you closer to heaven even if it weren't on the 35th floor,’ concluded no less than the New York Times.

VICTORIA & ALBERT MUSEUM CAFÉ, LONDON OK, it’s not a restaurant as such, but you can eat a casual meal here – as well as some pretty darn good cakes – and this is, for City Life & County Living’s money, one of the most stunning dining rooms you’re going to find anywhere. Housed in the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design, the café opened in November 2006. The V&A appointed young architectural designers MUMA (McInnes Usher McKnight Architects) for the overhaul. MUMA in turn worked with Benugo the caterers and specialist consultants to create a café that is exciting and informal. The design is described by the V&A as ‘contemporary elegant and utilitarian,’ we call it the ultimate glamorous collision of old and new. From the original mosaics, stained glass windows, and awe-inspiring gilt and pillars, to the incredible tangled balls of fine silver of the modern chandeliers that somehow fit the environment perfectly, ditto the simple white tables and red chairs. To eat, try the moist just-like-homemade banana or lemon cake, millionaire’s shortbread, pastrami-stuffed bagels and feta wraps, washed down with a good coffee or cold Euro beer. www.vam.ac.uk

Known as Foreign Cinema, this ‘Frisco dining institution lures a cult-like following for nightly dinner and a movie to its Mission District location. It could stand on the cuisine alone, but the ambience is really what makes Foreign Cinema so special, that and the novel location to enjoy the film noir flicks. Food-wise, it offers a coastal French menu and legendary brunches, (fried balsamic eggs with prosciutto, spicy Bloody Marys, garlic potato hash, homemade pop tarts) alongside rear patio screenings of film noir and the occasional Hollywood blockbuster. Inside it’s a lofty two-story dining room with crackling fireplace, flickering candles, table-lamps and and buttoned-up waiting staff. Oversized French doors with thick lead windows separate the main dining room from the outside patio. The crowd varies between Paris romance addicts in ‘kerchiefs and berets to local diners oblivious that they’re talking over one of the best movies ever. Chef/owners Gayle Pirie and John Clark are no novices amongst the local SF food scene. Previous gigs at Zuni Cafe and Chez Panisse taught them the ins-and-outs of local farmer’s markets as well as a crash course in locally sustainable organic cuisine. The result is an unfussy casual dining room that warrants accolades all it own. The ever-changing Mediterranean influenced menu and full oyster bar have earned rave reviews by virtually every SF publication and endless bloggies. The menu features an assortment of French-theme appetisers a selection of oysters, beef carpaccio, frito misto and artichoke salad. Entrees include a lengthy selection of fish like a Northern Halibut, sea scallops as well as trofie pasta with broccoli rabe and mixed grill of duck, quail and chicken. www.foreigncinema.com

The Restaurant Experience in Your Own Home ...The Sushi Night Experience As the nights draw in we find it a little harder to steer away from the cosiness of our own home. The rain and cold seems unappealing and the early dark nights can put us off from venturing too far afield. The outings to pubs and restaurants start to feel a little bit further away and a bit more of a drag away from comfort. ...So how about bringing the restaurant experience to your home? Hosting a dinner party is a great way to maintain sociability but can carry the stress of organising and cooking your food. Maybe you have to go easy on the wine in order for you to sustain your culinary standard? Maybe your presence in the kitchen is as useful as a horse on roller skates? Maybe you have as much skill in the kitchen as a t-rex with a fishing rod? In which case you should consider Sushi Night Fever, a dinner party and sushi master class rolled into one! You can still be the host, you can still entertain, you can still have as much wine as you'd like as the pressure of the catering is all but completely forgotten as Ben North provides enough food to ensure “all you can eat” sushi. What's more is that he takes you through a sushi master class with a little history lesson, providing details about the development of sushi throughout the ages with demonstrations and instruction of how to roll your very own! Sushi appears to be very intricate but the chef here can successfully guide you to construct some incredibly looking gourmet pieces that you'd be proud of! There is a vast array of fillings and flavours, enough to appeal to all taste buds and he has even managed to convert a few non-sushi eaters into sushi lovers! All the food is prepared and set up on an exquisite table setting. The only limiting factor is the size of the dining table and the number of chairs! All there is left for you do is relax, join in and be totally entertained by Sushi Night Fever!

THEGILBERT SCOTT St Pancrass Renaissance Hotel, Euston Road, London NW1 2AR www.thegilbertscott.co.uk Inspired by the unique, historical setting that the restaurant enjoys and a true passion for hospitality. The menu pays respect to the heritage of this wondrous and intriguing space. Entering through the revolving door on Euston Road, the bar welcomes you with a grand and awe-inspiring space designed originally by its namesake, Sir George Gilbert Scott. With an exciting bespoke cocktail list and English sparkling wine selection, the bar will entice and fulfil. If dining, the decorative corridors lead you through into the arc-shaped grand restaurant to enjoy lunch or dinner any day of the week.
CITY LIFE & COUNTY LIVING
Our Experience: Set in a spectacular building, the Gilbert Scott echoes back to Victorian days, a far more elegant age when the upper classes were all about refinement and a meal out was a grandiose affair.
58
This is a truly British restaurant with a hearty and surprisingly extensive British menu, something for every taste including many nostalgic British favourites. Being a Marcus Wareing restaurant we went expecting high quality cuisine and as such we weren’t disappointed. They have thankfully erred away from typical fine dining though, providing instead excellent cooking in ample portions. Both the service and food were exemplary, befitting the spectacular setting, the extent of which you can’t help but be taken in by whilst dining. With the menu choice available, the Gilbert Scott is appropriate for both the casual or discerning diner, but in the setting provided by the building’s architecture, whatever the purpose of the visit it will always feel like a special occasion. We can definitely recommend that you visit the Gilbert Scott.
Who might you see there... The Gilbert Scott is located in the Renaissance Hotel, adjoining St. Pancrass station - and attracts some well known names from both the business world and the entertainment industry, Including Jude Law who can been seen here leaving the restaurant.

BOUJIS
43 Thurloe Street, London, SW7 2LQ www.boujis.com
Arguably one of London’s hottest clubs, the venue is a home away from home for the crowd of South Kensington socialites who pack the dance floor on a regular basis. Enjoying many years as one of the premium nightlife destinations in London Boujis has received a multitude of industry recognised bar and club awards, best club, best boutique club and best night, and has played host to some of the world’s most influential and glamorous crowds. Our Experience: Boujis has a reputation to uphold. When it comes to famous clientele, the list is endless, including the new generation of Royals, and as you would therefore expect, the door policy is strict. When inside though, rather than being elitist, the atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed. The music mix, RnB, Club Classics and chart hits was a refreshing change to the typical club drone and it works well as virtually everyone took to the dance floor. VIP table booking is essential, which comes with an attentive drinks service. The drinks list has all the normal club favourites and some interesting original offerings, prices though indicative of the club’s location. If you are looking to enjoy your evening out and dance to great music in a safe and friendly environment then Boujis is the club for you. Who might you see there...
Situated in Kensington, Boujis can boast an impressive clientele list, including Prince Harry (plus William & Kate), Frank Lampard and Rhianna.
THE GILGAMESH
The Stables Market, Chalk Farm Road. London NW1 8AH www.gilgameshbar.com Set in the heart of London’s Camden Stables Market, Gilgamesh is a critically acclaimed Pan-Asian restaurant, the Executive Chef is Ian Pengelley. Gilgamesh is a celebrity favourite and home to one of London’s best Pan-Asian restaurants, stylish bar and exclusive nightclub. The glamorous restaurant has a unique and luxurious style, perfectly fused with the grand and exotic imagery of the mysterious Babylonian era. Gilgamesh is not just another London venue, the lavish and spacious interior coupled with opulent décor, and delectable Pan-Asian cuisine creates an unforgettable and unparalleled dining experience. Our Experience: When you have the good fortune to eat out a lot, there comes a point when you crave something ‘different’. If you are, Gilgamesh may be the answer. It’s location, Camden Market is not where you would expect to find one of London’s most popular and glamorous restaurants, but once you enter through the doors, you are transported into a different world, and instantly feel that you are somewhere rather special!
Who might you see there...
A regular celebrity favourite, with Emma Bunton, Michelle Keegan & Leigh Francis (Keith Lemon) all seen leaving above to name a few.
Gilgamesh is unique, and somewhere that I would like to visit on a regular basis. It’s easy to see how it has carved it’s position as a celebrity favourite. and is a restaurant that I can certainly highly recommend.
CITY LIFE & COUNTY LIVING
The lavish decor is matched only by the menu choice and food presentation. There is something for every palate and combinations of pan-asian cuisine that can make your meal one that you will certainly remember. The food was simply amazing and generously portioned and I could continue to rave about the food, it’s flavours and how delightfully different it was, but this is somewhere you need to try for yourself to get the full experience. It’s not just the food or the setting, it’s the food in the setting.

We’ve all heard the saying ‘you are what you eat’. But more importantly, we are what we can digest & absorb. Are you, or is someone you know feeling tired and sluggish? Maybe you want to feel like you have lots of energy? Maybe you want to know you’re being the healthiest you can be? We all have very busy lifestyles and we run from one place to the next, sometimes even skipping meals. We tend to grab something quick off the shelves and often these foods are high in fat and salt and what we like to call ‘empty calories’. They are low in nutritional value. So it’s no surprise that doctors report that more and more people need vitamins and minerals to supplement and sustain good health. When you incorporate Arbonne’s Essentials range into your diet, you will feel healthier, more energised and it will help you to lose those extra pounds.

FASHION HEALTH & BEAUTY
No Matter Where You Are Today, YOU Have The Power To Change Where You Are Tomorrow By The Decisions You Make… Every year we say things like “this year I’m going to exercise regularly, this year I’m going to eat healthily, this year is going to be my healthiest ever, but how many of us manage it and truly make a change!? If you know you’re one of these people then this article is for you! Follow the tips and even if you only make a half of them into a regular habit you’ll be well on your way to making 2014 your healthiest year ever!
1. Set a goal
What are your long, medium and short term fitness/health goals? How committed are you to achieving them? Your goals can be big or small. Here’s a tip write them down, make them visible to yourself, tell others about your goals and measure your progress. Your success rate will increase if you follow these steps.
2. Do 20 mins of cardio vascular exercise Every Other Day!
Cardio Vascular exercise is any form of exercising that exercises your heart and helps oxygen consumption by the body. Talking doesn’t count! Good forms of cardio vascular exercise are walking, running, swimming, rowing, cycling, skipping, cross training and boxing.
3. Drink More water!
Every function in your body requires water. Dehydration affects everything, your brain, your digestion, your energy levels and even your metabolism. Aim for 2-3 ltrs per day & more if you’re exercising.
4. Lift some weights!
9. Get some sleep, you need it!
6. Stretch your muscles
10. Get help with your fitness goals from a professional
Protein is a macro nutrient that is responsible for growth and repair. You should eat protein at every meal. You can get your protein from two main sources. Animal or plan. Examples are fish, meat, eggs, pulses/legumes. Most of us lead a busy lifestyle and a lot of us are stuck behind a computer or a steering wheel for most of the day. This is where stretching those tight muscles can be very beneficial. You can stretch dynamically (through movement) or statically (holding a stretch not moving).
7. Eat 5 portions of Vegetables EVERY DAY!
Yes every day even weekends. Greens are the best, try vegetables such as kale, asparagus, green beans, cabbage, courgettes, broccoli and peas. Vegetables are important for vitamins and minerals that are vital to keep you healthy.
You need 7.5 hours of quality sleep per night. Sleep deprivation is directly linked to weight gain because. If you’re a 5 hour sleeper an extra 2.5 hours per night will help you to lose weight.
You can’t do everything on your own! Getting help from a personal trainer or fitness professional can get you on the fast track to achieving your fitness goals. A great trainer will help you with an exercise and nutrition plan, motivate you, coach you, hold you accountable and most importantly get you RESULTS! Put these tips into practice make them habits and you will be well on your way to the healthiest year if your life...
8. Cut out the processed sugars
In the UK processed and artificial sugars are one of the biggest contributors to the increased obesity rates. Processed sugars are present in chocolate, sweets, fizzy drinks, fruit juices, cakes, biscuits, artificial sweeteners and many other foods. If you’ve got a sweet tooth substitute for more natural sugars such as fruit, honey, date sugar and stevia.

Are you going back to your dentist to have your crown/veneer/inlay fitted? Do you know what your crown is made from? At CARE Dental Drs Savan Zala and Mark Ricketts are committed to giving you the dentistry for you that dentists want in their own mouths.
Single visit Cerec dentistry. The best!..
...............................................................................................................................................
Advances in dental technology are making treatments simpler all the time, at C.A.R.E dental we invest in the latest technology, equipment and materials and therefore progress with this technology. For example, C.A.R.E dental uses CEREC 3D technology, the world’s only system for the fabrication of all ceramic dental restorations in one visit. This means that we are able to do single visit crowns and full mouth smile makeovers. We can make your crowns, veneers or inlays whilst you wait, you can even watch them being constructed! Empress Ceramic provides the same strength as unsightly metal restorations, with natural cosmetics. CEREC by Sirona Dental Systems is the world's only system for the fabrication of all ceramic dental restorations in one visit. With CEREC at our side, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent, all ceramic crown, onlay, veneer or full smile makeover! For you, the patient, this means fewer injections, less drilling, and less time out of your hectic schedule for dental care, and No Impressions Needed. Most similar dental restorative methods require several visits. This means that on the first visit, you get an injection of anaesthesia, your tooth prepared, an
impression taken, and a temporary restoration put on your tooth. You make a second appointment for a couple of weeks later, get another injection, have the temporary pried off (if it hasn't fallen off already), and have a permanent restoration put on. Why go to the dentist a second time when you don't have to? With CEREC, the procedure is done in a single appointment, start to finish so you can walk away with a complete new smile, all your treatment needs carried out in one appointment! This means we are capable of carrying out a whole smile make over in under 6 hours, with no need for endless appointments, temporaries which may come off- All done in one appointment! We are able to provide dental treatments such as porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, porcelain crowns, dental implants, bridges and replacements for missing teeth. In addition to specialist treatments we offer all ceramic fillings, root canal treatments. We also realise that not everyone relishes the prospect of a trip to the dentist! Nervous patients are provided with the support and understanding they need in a friendly, caring and sympathetic environment, if this is not enough then
“Where individual smiles matter”
Intravenous sedation is also an option at C.A.R.E Dental, we understand your needs & cater to them. A natural, confident smile is one of the most attractive features one can possess. Sadly, many people are inhibited by poor dental health and the appearance of their teeth. Poor teeth and gums can affect your quality of life, your self-confidence and the way others see you, as well as your health. As numerous patients tell us: “My teeth simply stopped me feeling good about myself”.

Many of us invest time, effort and money on our fitness and general appearance but all too often neglect our teeth, gums and dental health. Years of inadequate or infrequent dental care can
“Smiles all round” leave patients with complex dental problems - not to mention an unsightly appearance. And of course time, general wear and tear and old dental work can all age our smile. Whatever the condition of your teeth, we have the expertise to give you the smile of your dreams. New techniques in restorative dentistry, dental implants, periodontal treatments, orthodontics, aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry make it possible to restore, rejuvenate and enhance the health, appearance and condition of your mouth even if the teeth and gums are seriously damaged, neglected or compromised. We specialise in treating patients with complex cases, some of whom have been told that nothing can be done for them.
We love a challenge! Today’s makeover programmes have highlighted dental treatments such as veneers and tooth whitening that can be used to improve smiles. But sometimes these quick fixes are not the best solution. We will always ensure that your dental treatment achieves the aesthetic or cosmetic results you are looking for whilst at the same time enhancing and maintaining your dental health for the long-term. Super Fast, Simplified Service The fully customised diagnostic wax up allows us to assess the suitability and longevity of the treatment. It also allows you the patient, to see the end result before we've even touched your teeth! The wax design can then be matched exactly to your own mouth with CEREC 3D, reproducing the exact same smile as designed in California. So no nasty surprises with the potential end result. You get exactly what you see on the model designed just for you! Seeing our patient's smile with confidence is what we strive for! Smiles all round!

PROPERTY
Chesterton Humberts share their thoughts on the trend of buying off-plan, and the pros and cons people experience:
project completes, the buyer must ensure they have finances in place to complete. It is for this reason that many UK buyers only secure their purchase within the 6 month validity period of a typical mortgage offer. If you do choose to buy off plan you will of course be unable to physically see your apartment or house until it nears build completion. However, a developer will give a buyer comprehensive plans of the unit and many well provide buyers with a certain choice of finish or colour scheme. A buyer should make sure they have all the information they require from the developer to make the right decision for them. All developers should adhere to Consumer Code for Home Builders. The code came into force April 2010 and consists of 19 principles that home builders must meet in their marketing and selling of homes and their after-sales customer service. This provides buyers with not only comfort in the process and steps they take but recourse in the event that the developer doesn't perform as expected, or set out to them when they bought.
Most new developments are sold off plan and traditionally sales to overseas investors represented a significant portion of total sales. Thanks to developers launching developments initially in the UK and the Help to Buy scheme, first time buyers are now making up an increasing number of new build purchases.
CITY LIFE & COUNTY LIVING
Recently published data from the government shows that the Help-toBuy Equity Loan scheme attracted over 10,000 reservations for new build homes between its launch in April and the end of July, and with the second part of the scheme due to take full effect from January 2014, demand for units is set to rocket, which may result in buyers looking to secure units as early on in the process as possible.
98
With competition among buyers high, it is pleasing to know that once a buyer has decided on a particular unit, they can secure it immediately by paying a small reservation fee (usually ÂŁ2,000 to ÂŁ5,000). On receipt of the reservation fee, draft contracts are issued and typically 28 days later contracts are exchanged, 10% of the purchase price is paid, and the buyer can then forget about it until the project nears completion, when the rest of the balance is due. Some schemes have small stage payments, but rarely more than 20%. The buyer then has the benefit of
knowing that the purchase price is fixed and the sale is secure and there is no fear of gazumping or the seller pulling out. Plus, with prices set to rise there is good potential for capital growth whilst the development is being built. Chesterton Humberts research department are predicting an average of 8% growth per annum in London over the coming four years. In terms of negotiating a deal, new build property negotiations are with a developer rather than an individual seller, so movement on price is not so flexible. Nevertheless, we advise people to be prepared by ensuring finances are in place as developers are always looking for decisive, organised buyers who can proceed quickly. When movement on sales price is limited there are always extras such as parking, storage units and internal specification upgrades to use as negotiation tools. My advice is to ask the question, you never know what might be agreed unless you ask! There are some issues that buyers should take in to consideration when buying off plan. Since buyers agree a price sometime before the properties are physically complete market values can go up or down. If in the unlikely event that prices fall between the point at which the buyer puts down a deposit and
Buyers are also advised to ensure that the new property will be delivered with a recognised build warranty, most commonly provided by the NHBC (National House Building Council); this will give the building a 10-year warranty against structural defects. It also importantly covers their exchange deposit in the event that the build becomes insolvent during the off plan phase. Many developers also offer internal defect warranties on the fixtures and fittings in the property. Buyers should expect 1-2 years cover, but some national housebuilders now offer more. And finally, although delays in construction can occur they are pretty rare. If they do happen there would usually be a section in the contract to explain what the developer will do in this circumstance and at what point the buyer can step out of the contract and buy elsewhere. The benefits to buying off plan far outweigh the possibility of any negative issues arising, particularly with the larger reputable developers. In a competitive market, developers offer buyers peace of mind in securing a sale and delivering property that is hassle free, energy efficient and above all, brand new! City Life Touring the Costa Blanca
...Alicante
The city of Alicante, Spain! Alicante, and its wonderful boulevard with palm trees and shopping streets, is one of the most well-known towns along the Costa Blanca. Known for its miles of sandy beaches, Alicante is a starting point for thousands of tourists every year. Famous for its excellent weather, the city invites you to take a trip along the coast or to the wonderful island of Tabarca. Along the Alicante harbour you find a beautiful promenade for relaxing walks, enjoying the palm trees and the mild climate. With many historical buildings around the entire city, Alicante offers countless sightseeing attractions; from cathedrals to churches and of course a wonderful harbour area. Additional to sightseeing, direct from the harbour area, a long wide sandy beach leads its

way up to San Juan. Just drop your towel on the sand and enjoy a wonderful day in the sun. During summer time Alicante, with its Airport, is a starting point for many Costa Blanca tourists, whilst during the winter months tourists and residents tend to live along the coast in places like Benidorm, Denia, Javea and Moraira.
100
Location of Alicante: The Costa Blanca lies on the east coast of Spain. To the south is the Costa Almeria, and to the north is the Costa Dorada. Alicante has about 340 000 inhabitants and lies directly at the Mediterranean sea. A holiday in Alicante affords access to stunning beaches, as well as the opportunity to enjoy a great many sites relating to the history and culture of Spain. Add to this the likelihood of fabulous weather conditions, fitting everything in to your schedule may be one of your biggest problems. Sun, sea and sand are the principal reasons why a great many people will visit Alicante to holiday or retire.
You can rent property in Alicante fairly cheaply and eat out for 2 quite reasonably, providing you are not in a tourist trap. Alicante is a pretty, vibrant working city, most of the accommodation being apartments. Like the whole of Spain it's a good place to retire or holiday but not look for work. Most of the Europeans looking to buy property for holidays or retirement purchase along the coast.

During the height of Spain's real estate boom Britons flocked to the country's coast. They bought holiday and retirement homes, and fulfilled longheld dreams of a place in the sun. There has never been a better time to buy in Spain than now. The things that made owning a Spanish property so popular with Britons still exist – the climate, the lifestyle and the proximity to the UK. Spain is still a lovely place to live :- that is its biggest selling point. Plus Prices have dropped 50 per cent in some areas.

New
911 Turbo Turbo S
&
New all-wheel drive, active rear axle steering, adaptive aerodynamics, full-LED headlights and the up to 560 bhp flat six-cylinder engine with bi-turbo charging underscore the role of the new generation 911 Turbo as a circuit racing car, everyday car and technology platform.
Playing an equally crucial role are the entirely new chassis in lightweight design with a 100 mm longer wheelbase and larger 20-inch wheels. The PDCC active antiroll system, which is being offered for the first time in 911 Turbo models, increases dynamic performance even more. This system is standard equipment in the 911 Turbo S, as is the Sport Chrono Package with dynamic engine mounts and PCCB ceramic brakes; all of these features are also available as options in the 911 Turbo.
More power, fuel economy improved by 16 per cent
The performance partners in the powertrain area are the further advanced engines and the new PTM all-wheel drive system. The turbocharged 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine with direct petrol injection produces 520 hp (383 kW) in the 911 Turbo and 560 bhp (412 kW) in the S model. Porsche continues to be the only carmaker to offer two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry for a petrol engine. Power is transferred to the drivetrain via the seven-speed dual clutch transmission (PDK), which now enables an auto start/ stop function with engine shutoff that now activates earlier during coasting to a stop as well as a coasting function. Together with the new thermal management system for the turbo engine and the PDK transmission, fuel efficiency technologies have reduced NEDC fuel consumption by up to 16 per cent to 9.7 l/100 km; these figures apply to both models.
New all-wheel drive with electro-hydraulic control
Widest body of all 911 cars
The two new top models display their performance visually more than ever. The characteristic, expansively wide rear body panels of the new generation 911 Turbo are 28 mm wider than on the 911 Carrera 4 models – they feature a nearly level surface, about the width of a hand, between the C-pillar and the outer edge of the car body. Other differentiating characteristics include two-tone forged 20-inch wheels – on the 911 Turbo S they have hub wheel locks. The Turbo S is also making its appearance with new full-LED headlights that feature fourpoint daytime running lights and dynamic, camera-based main beam control, which can be ordered as an option for the 911 Turbo.
Rear axle steering sustainably improves handling
The introduction of rear axle steering in all turbo models immensely improves both circuit racing and everyday performance of the two new top sports cars. The system consists of two electro-mechanical actuators instead of the conventional control arms on the left and right of the rear axle. The steering angle of the rear wheels can be varied by up to 2.8 degrees, depending on vehicle speed. At speeds up to 50 km/h, when the front wheels are turned the system steers the rear wheels in the opposite direction. This actually corresponds to a virtual shortening of the wheelbase by 250 mm, which gives the 911 Turbo unrivalled performance in bends. The system lets the car turn faster into the bend and offers more dynamic steering response. This noticeably simplifies manoeuvring and parking. At speeds above 80 km/h, the system steers the rear wheels parallel to the turned front wheels. This is equivalent to a virtual lengthening of the wheelbase by
Engine: twin turbo 3.8l flat six Power: 513bhp Torque: 487Ib ft 0-62mph: 3.1 secs Top Speed: 198mph
a significant 500 mm and gives the sports car tremendous stability, especially at high speeds. At the same time, the steering input by the driver leads to significantly faster build-up of lateral force at the rear axle, which initiates the change in direction more spontaneous and harmoniously.
Active aerodynamics improve efficiency and performance
Porsche developed an active aerodynamic system on the new 911 Turbo models for the first time — Porsche active aerodynamics (PAA). It consists of a sturdy, retractable three-stage front spoiler, whose segments can be pneumatically extended, and a deployable rear wing with three adjustable wing positions. This makes it possible to tune the aerodynamics of the 911 Turbo to fulfil driver wishes for either optimal efficiency (speed position) or top dynamic performance. In the performance position, all segments of the front spoiler are fully extended, and they generate considerable downforce at the front axle. Similarly, the rear wing is extended to its maximum height with the greatest angle of attack. This also generates more downforce at the rear axle. Dynamic performance is improved to such an extent that lap times at the North Loop of the Nürburgring are improved by up to two seconds due to this system alone.
New interior with high-end features
The interior was completely redesigned in both 911 Turbo models, and it builds on the 911 Carrera family. The S model is particularly well equipped, offering such features as an exclusive interior in a black/carrera red colour combination and adaptive sport seats plus with 18-way adjustment and memory. In addition, the seat backrest shells are leather upholstered with double cap seams and various elements in carbon look. Like on the previous models, the Bose sound system is installed as standard; for the first time, a Burmester system is also available as an optional feature. A radar-controlled cruise control system, camera-based road sign recognition and speed limit recognition are other new options being offered.
CITY LIFE & COUNTY LIVING
For an even faster and more precise power distribution to the two axles, Porsche developed a new all-wheel drive system (PTM) with electronically controlled and activated multi-plate coupling. The system is equipped with a new water cooling function, so that it can direct even more drive torque to the front wheels if necessary. Simultaneously, the optimised interplay of the engine, transmission and all-wheel drive systems takes the new top 911 to even better sprint capabilities. The 911 Turbo with the optional Sport Chrono Package
accelerates from zero to 62mph in 3.1 seconds, which is even one-tenth better than the value of the previous 911 Turbo S. The new 911 Turbo S handles the standard sprint to 62mph in just 3.1 seconds. The car’s top speed is 198 mph.

THE New
BMW X5
Before the first BMW X5 arrived way back in 1999, most SUVs were built for tackling mud, climbing rocky trails and towing ski boats. Their clumsy on-road manners were something you endured for the pleasure of sitting high, mighty and apparently invincible...
But BMW reckoned there was a market for a sports activity vehicle rather than a sportutility vehicle, and while it’s easy to argue about the semantics of these labels, what Munich had in mind was a big all-wheeldrive beast that you would actually enjoy driving. BMW was not alone in realizing that the off-road element was a lot less important than a four-wheel-drive’s implied prestige, imperious seating and ample cabin space. The X5 ended up a pioneer, to be followed by the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7 and Range Rover Sport. That success is one reason why the styling of this thirdgeneration X5 “refines and reinforces the X5’s look of presence and elegance,” according to designer Olivier Heilmer, rather than offering anything truly new.
More Power, Eventually
At launch, the most powerful drivetrain available comes in the xDrive50i, which combines a twin-turbo 4.4 litre V8 with an eight-speed paddle-shift transmission and all-wheel drive. A 3.0-litre straight-6 powers the xDrive35i, while the diesel-powered xDrive35d model will join the line-up next year. For the first time, a rear-wheel-drive X5 will also be available with the 3.0-litre petrol power six only. Output in the 2014 BMW X5 V8 climbs 10 percent to 450 horsepower and torque is up to 479 pound-feet. It’s enough to shave half a second from the 0-62-mph time, which falls to an impressive 5.0 seconds flat. BMW says fuel economy improves a little, too.
Deft Chassis, Dulled Steering
Not surprisingly, the X5 chassis is more than capable of handling the V8’s efforts. The Dynamic Handling package, adds an air-sprung rear suspension, adjustable dampers, active antiroll bars and cross-axle torque-vectoring. The standard setup is specified with steel springs, conventional shocks and passive antiroll bars. We would recommend the upgraded setup for two reasons. The first because this is a big load carrier in need of self-leveling, the second because we suspect the ride will need softening for broken tarmac moments. Dialed in to Sport mode, this X5 proves satisfyingly agile through bends both tight and sweeping. It’s a vehicle that feels smaller than its bulk implies, and certainly nimble enough to entertain. It’s also stable, steers accurately, stops convincingly and rolls enough to let you know what you’re doing without turning remotely floppy and uncooperative. As for the ride, it swallows most small bumps whole as promised, although the odd clatter across ridges and potholes in Sport suggests that it’s the Comfort damping mode you’ll mostly want on U.K. roads. There’s no shortage of electronic driving aids in other departments, however: lane-keeping, radar-controlled cruise that
Engine: 2993cc 6cyl Power: 258bhp Torque: 413 Ib ft 0-60mph: 6.9 seconds Top Speed: 144mph
extends to traffic jam stop-and-go, and (from December) a lane-keeping traffic jam assistant, too. Night vision and BMW’s excellent head-up display also appear on an expensively lengthy options list.
Cleaner, More Spacious Cabin
Inside this X5 you’re greeted with a slightly more sophisticated cabin than before. Apart from the permanently affixed infotainment screen, the architecture is essentially familiar, right down to the signature twin airvent stacks at the dashboard’s outer edges. But there are subtle improvements, such as the gentle curves of the decorative wood, aluminium and double-stitched leather that heighten the luxury ambiance. Solid rear-seat space is another one of this X5’s upsides, a factor made even more useful by the very comfortable back bench. There’s also slightly more cargo room thanks to some packaging changes, along with the continued option of a third row, now split 40/20/40. It’s still far from a full-size SUV in this regard, but for those who only occasionally need a third row, this X5 is more useful than it has ever been.
Hasn’t Forgotten Its Roots
At its heart, though, the X5 is still the sporting SUV that it was back in 1999. Perhaps too much so aesthetically. BMW would doubtless argue that the existing formula is very successful so there’s little reason to make drastic changes. It’s certainly more polished this time around with its mix of big cabin comfort, luxury trimmings, sporting performance, all-weather security and accomplished manners.
CITY LIFE & COUNTY LIVING
Despite all the grunt, and the traction to make maximum use of it, the V8 X5 is not the fastest thing off the line. The engine and transmission need a few moments to absorb your right foot’s command before
launching the BMW forward with the urge you’d desired moments earlier. It’s a pause that appears when you’re on the move at lowish speeds, too, although switching to Sport mode does a bit to enliven the drivetrain. The twin-turbo V8 does make a nice sound, however, providing a satin V8 beat that turns impressively muscular when the throttle is sunk deep.
