Hello Loafer Readers! It’s hard to believe February is more than half over. The older I get the faster time speeds past me. This month is the birthday of one of my tiny little granddaughters. She is an absolute ball of personality and she makes the world a brighter place. Happy Birthday to my Lunacorn! We are proud to feature some of the earlier presidents of this great United States of America! I love this country. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you promote your business, music, theater or anything you are passionate about. We appreciate the support of every one of you! Have a great week!!!
Love, Lisa Durbin Publisher

attending Dartmouth College. As punishment for throwing too loud a party and waking his Ever wonder why it is that almost landlord, the dean of the college forced Ted Geisel to resign as every kindergarten teacher in editor of the school paper. But, America has the books of Dr. Ted decided to keep on editing, Seuss as standard reading for writing and drawing cartoons their children? Or even better, under the guise of a different why almost every kid in America name, ‘Ted Seuss’ or just ‘Seuss’. wants to try green eggs and The ‘Dr.’ part of his name would ham for breakfast? Who is come a little later on in life. this infamous Dr. Seuss that While creating a cartoon feature has seemingly taken over our elementary lesson plans and turned to bewitching our kids into wanting to read? Well, it turns out this Dr. of ours is actually a one, Mr. Theodor Seuss Geisel. Did you catch that? - Seuss is actually his middle name (which was given to him from his mother’s maiden name, Henrietta Seuss). Originally from Springfield, Massachusetts young Theodor (nicknamed Ted) was an avid reader. One of his favorite books was The Hole Book and at the age of six, he could recite the whole story by heart. Ted, of course had other interests such as drawing and visiting the Forest Park Zoo, just six blocks away from their house on Fairfield Street. He would come home from the zoo and try to draw some of the creatures he’d seen. Of course, his imagination would get involved and Ted would have a zoo of his own animal creations. Drawing would come to be a favorite hobby of his all throughout his life, along with naming his creations and coming up with humorous words to put in their mouths. So, when did this young Ted turn into the Dr. Seuss that would create the books our children are learning to read from? Well, the Seuss part of the name came about while Ted was
of reading. Nowadays the books of Seuss are broken up into three main categories: Beginner Books, Bright & Early Books and Hardcover Classics.
Oddly enough, the book did not initially sell well to schools. The publishing company, Random House, took it to bookstores where it flew off the shells. Ted’s beginning into children’s books came with his publishing And Parents were excited to have a book that their children could to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, a hardcover classic that laugh with and enjoy while follows the imagination of a boy sounding out the easy-to-read named Marco and the amazing words. There was now a new sights he sees parading down division at Random House Mulberry Street. The success of devoted to beginner books. Ted this story brought on several other was in charge of the division and every book that came out of it would have an image of the Cat in the Hat on the cover. Eventually, the teachers in schools caught on with the mainstream and school kids everywhere are delighting in the wonderful works of Dr. Seuss. His imaginative creations have given children an opportunity to have fun while sounding out the playful, rhyming words and following along with the outrageous pictures. So, thank you Dr. Seuss.
for the magazine Judge, Ted decided to sign his name ‘Dr. Theophrastus Seuss’ to sound more professional. Eventually, it would become just ‘Dr. Seuss’. Ted was saving his real name for the great novel he hoped to write someday.
Seuss classics, including the The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
The year of the ‘Grinch’ success also brought us the infamous ‘Cat’. And here is when we see the seeds of change in our beginning readers. After reading an article in Life Magazine, in which the author Now, you know where the name criticizing the “Dick and Jane” came from and a little history books, stated that Dr. Seuss could about the man behind the name, create better beginner readers for but what about the books that children, Ted decided to take on stemmed from the great Dr.’s the challenge. He took a list of 223 imagination. These are the easy-to-read words and after nine tokens after all, that are beguiling months of work gave us, The Cat in our children into the enjoyment the Hat.
Oh yeah, why do kids everywhere want to try green eggs and ham? My guess is they must a read about it in a book somewhere - I bet it has something to do with that Dr. Seuss character. A Note From the Author: As you can tell, I am a fan of children’s books and Dr. Seuss is a favorite. This distinguished looking over grown pup is Sonny Boy. He may be 8 years old but based on his enthusiasm for life, you would think he was only 8 months. Sunny loves people! He becomes so overjoyed interacting with humans that he just can’t seem to contain his excitement, because he wants all the love and he wants it all at once! Sunny will definitely need a very patient and experienced owner willing to
put the time, love, and effort into teaching him personal space, then the basics will easily follow. Sunny Boy absolutely adores tennis balls and could play fetch for hours. Obviously as a Labrador he is obsessed with water, doesn’t even matter if it’s just a plastic kiddie pool !!! Sunny Boy has been neutered and is current on his vaccinations.

Breaking news! There have been a lot of changes with regards to staying trendy as of late, and if you’re like me, you were not aware of a single one of them. To bring all of us up to speed, apparently skinny jeans are OUT and skinny eyebrows are back in. When it comes to hair, middle parts are your only option, and being blonde is a faux pas. “Euphoria” is the only show on television, and someone named Julia Fox with bad eye makeup is Kanye West’s newest muse….for what, I’m not entirely sure. I’m sorry everyone but the time I’ve dreaded is officially at hand- I am old, out of touch with the young cool kids, and apparently referred to as a “boomer.” I do not know how I’ll sleep tonight following this devastating news.

“The first step is always the hardest, but you’ll never know unless you try…”
About Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income. After launching in 1995, the program grew quickly. First books were only distributed to children living in Sevier County, Tennessee where Dolly grew up. It became such a success that in 2000 a national replication effort was underway. By 2003, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library had mailed one million books. It would prove to be the first of many millions of books sent to children around the world. Dolly’s home state of Tennessee pledged to pursue statewide coverage in 2004 and global expansion was on the horizon. After the United States, the program launched in Canada in 2006 followed by the United Kingdom in 2007, Australia in 2013 and the Republic of Ireland in 2019.

The character of Catwoman first appeared in the Batman #1 comic book in 1940, and the character has been an enduring part of pop culture ever since. The character is featured in the new DC animated film "Catwoman: Hunted '' and after viewing the film I realized what a missed opportunity the 2004 live action Catwoman film turned out to be. I will never understand why the live action film didn't even use Selina Kyle as Catwoman, but instead used a different character who possessed metahuman abilities. I'm sorry but that was not Catwoman, and the box office proved fans didn't want any part of that misguided effort. The film simply seemed to be an excuse to have Halle Berry parade around in a catsuit. From the moment the animated film begins with a James Bond style jazzy opening credits segment, I felt like a fun romp was in store. Boy, was I correct. Catwoman (voiced to perfection by Elizabeth Gillies), is introduced while attending a party with the villainous Blac Mask (Jonathan Banks) in a mansion in Spain. The party is given by Barabar Minerva (Kirby

Howell-Baptiste), who appears to be the head of a criminal organization, but is indeed much more. Catwoman simply wants to be there to steal a priceless jewel she has her eyes on, and intends to leave the party with the prized possession with the help of her cat Isis. While she does manage to snag the priceless jewel, she is surprised by the presence of Batwoman (Stephanie Beatriz), who is working with Interpol agent Julia Pennyworth (Lauren Cohan) and her companion. Batwoman manages to thwart Catwoman's theft, and convinces her to become part of Interpol's efforts to take down the criminal organization supposedly led by Minerva. The two then head out in a jet confiscated from the Penguin on a mission to take down the consortium of villains. While on the mission, Catwoman crosses paths with Chershire (Kelly Hu), an assassin who has been hired to take down the fearless feline. The two battle on a rooftop and are later joined in the fray by Batwoman and Nosferata (Zehra Fazal), a vampirish character not often seen in the DC animated films. The rooftop battle culminates in the four falling through the glass ceiling where they confront the criminal consortium head on. The battle is intense, and involves Tobias Whale (Keith David), the zombie Solomon Grundy (Steve Blum), Cheetah (the aforementioned Baptiste) and some otherworldly creatures. The film ends with an opportunity for a sequel, I would encourage DC animation to continue Catwoman adventures. The film, in Anime style, is filled with action, witty dialogue, and a wonderful jazz score which is perfect for the character of Catwoman. To me this is one
of the best films to come from the DC animated universe, and I tend to like most of them as they are all of high caliber. Of course Catwoman is featured in the new live action film "The Batman", and "Catwoman: Hunted" is yet another opportunity for the character to shine. If DC and Warner Brothers ever decide
to make another live-action Catwoman film, here is the example to use. Now on Blu-ray and various steaming outlets including Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video. (Rated PG-13)

Director Douglas Sirk is known for his brand of Technicolor melodramas he made for Universal Studios in the mid1950s. Most of Sirk’s films also starred Rock Hudson, and for a brief period, both the star and the director were the most valuable assets Universal had. Two of Sirk’s Hudson helmed films have been released on blu-ray by The Criterion Collection. 1954’s “Magnificent Obsession” and 1955’s “All That Heaven Allows.”
The son of the family (Stack) has fallen in love and gotten married (Bacall). The son has a history of alcoholism and despite calming to be reformed now that he’s found romance, soon he slips back into his heavy drinking and self-destructive ways. The son’s jealousy and paranoia soon get in between him and his best friend (Hudson), a fire that is only fueled by his sister (Malone) who is out to get her kicks no matter what the cost.
natural grain, looks great. That color pallet has a rich vibrancy that is highly missed in modern filmmaking. It’s a great-looking disc. The film’s original soundtrack is presented as an uncompressed mono audio track. It sounds fine, has some background hiss, but that’s not uncommon for a film of this vintage, everything is clear and easily heard and that’s all that matters.

Sirk’s films all feature a truly stunning Technicolor pallet that pops right off the screen. These pallets are perfect for blu-ray, and as we all know, Criterion has a reputation for bringing the best possible looking versions of each film they release to bluray. “Written on the Wind” is no exception, the blu-ray features a new 2K digital restoration sourced from the original 35mm camera negative, with a vintage 35mm dye-transfer Technicolor print used as a reference for color. The film, which shows signs of
archival interviews with several actors that worked with Sirk, a new interview with scholar Patricia White about the film, and the original trailer. It’s a great package and fans of this film, and Sirk will be more than pleased. I enjoyed “Written on the Wind” and as of now, it stands as my favorite of Sirk’s melodrama parades. I hope you’ll give this one a look, it’s a very entertaining film with a great cast and one I think you’ll find well worth your time. See you next week.
