Boost Your Mental Health - Four Easy Steps By [https://EzineArticles.com/expert/ Denisa_Milucka/1036404] Denisa Milucka We are all fully aware of how good physical health undeniably contributes to a good quality life. However, there are still many of us who do not realize that good mental health is equally important. In fact, good mental health is a necessity if one wants to live a complete and full life. It is now widely recognized that those with good emotional health are more likely to handle life’s inevitable challenges, build strong relationships, cope with bad things and bounce back to move on, and thus lead more productive, fulfilling lives. The absence of good mental health manifests itself in various mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, or other psychological issues. It is the presence of positive thinking and positive characteristics in our lives that is crucial for emotional stability because not feeling bad is NOT the same as feeling good. As such, we all should make sure that we do not neglect our mental health but do all we can to maintain it and, more important, to boost it any time possible. The recent mental health statistics show that 1 in 4 people will experience some kind of mental health problem in the course of a year. Such problems are equally common in men and women, but the types of problems differ. Women are one-and-a-half times more likely to be affected by anxiety and depression, while men suffer more from substance abuse and anti-social personality disorders. Men are also more prone to suicide. Serious mental health problems are also more common than people think, 1 in 100 has a severe mental health condition such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. So how do we ensure that our mental health stays at its best? What can we do to boost it, and how do we maintain positivity in our lives? The good news is that there are indeed many things we can do to boost our mood, to build our resilience and to lead more enjoyable lives.
Depression is commonly associated with sleep problems so by introducing regular exercise individuals can increase their levels of activity and consequently improve their sleeping patterns. Regular exercise reduces stress and tension and helps clear the mind.
situations in our lives, such as, relationship break ups, putting on weight, not getting the job we want, can dramatically lower our self-esteem. People wishing to improve their selfesteem must treat themselves in a positive but honest way.
Another benefit of exercise is that it contributes to a more positive body image, which can be helpful for those wishing to increase their self-confidence and self-esteem. Having more positive body image and feeling better about the way we are perceived means that we do not mind socializing and feel good around others.
Managing your stress levels - reduce your working hours, ask for help, get some regular ‘me-time’ when you can completely relax and unwind by developing good relationships with your friends, family or your partner.
2) Build Your Resilience
In order to cope with life’s ups and downs and to strengthen our mental health it is necessary to build up our emotional resilience. This is our ability to maintain, or recover good feeling about ourselves, independent of the environment we may 1) Improve Your Physical Health find ourselves in. Pine Oaks Pilots New Golf Program for Special Olympics Golf Athletes Pine Oaks Golf Course, in partnership with Special Olympics Tennessee and the Tennessee Golf Foundation, is piloting a new skills development program for individuals with special needs. The sixweek program is designed to develop a variety of golf skills that enhance performance and allow the athlete to achieve success playing the game. Johnson City Commissioner Jenny Brock, an avid golfer and instructor with the First Tee of Tri-Cities, is serving as one of the coaches for the program. She said the creation of the program stems from her participation last year in a Special Olympics tournament. The format paired a Special Olympics golfer athlete with a community Unified Playing Partner. The team must qualify to play in the Tennessee Special Olympics events where they play an alternate shot format. “My partner, Samara Correnti, and I played together multiple times, eventually tying for first place in the state tournament,” Brock said. “As we met other teams from across the state, we learned that many communities offered golf programs where their athletes had learned, developed and practiced fundamental golf skills. I knew we could provide in Johnson City that same opportunity for East Tennessee Special Olympics golf athletes.” The pilot program is focused on teaching the six participants a variety of golf skills. Chris Sontag, director of Special Olympics Area 3, said the Special Olympics has multiple platforms in which athletes can compete based on skill level ranging from foundational skills to partnering with non-disabled golfers to golfing independently. “This program is awesome for everyone involved, especially the athletes,” Sontag said. “With Jenny and Cody offering to run the program, it is a win-win for everyone. We need more people to help manage programs like this. While not
every participating athlete will end up competing at the regional or state level, all of them will benefit from getting out on the golf course and learning or improving their skill set.” Tri-Cities Director of the Tennessee Golf Foundation Cody Weems also serves as a coach for the new program. His organization has been a longtime supporter of Special Olympics as a sponsor of events, and he is excited for the Tennessee Golf Foundation to be involved with this particular program — the first golf in the area dedicated to individuals with special needs. “We are proud to be able to partner with Pine Oaks Golf Course and Special Olympics Tennessee to make this program a reality,” Weems said. “It aligns exactly with what we do, which is promoting golf and life enhancing values. All three organizations are working closely together to make this program successful. We hope to see it offered year in and year out and grow in size.” Pine Oaks Golf Course is a valuable instructional resource having been the longtime home to programs like First Tee and the junior golf program offered through the City’s Park and Recreation Department as well as private lessons. “As a facility, Pine Oaks is excited to be the host for a class that Jenny Brock, Cody Weems, and the Tennessee Golf Foundation are offering these athletes,” said Bryan Bentley, golf manager for Pine Oaks Golf Course. “Being the first year of having this program, we want to do everything we can to ensure these athletes have the best time, learn as much as they can about the game of golf, and hopefully recruit more athletes to join the program in the years to come.” Pine Oaks Golf Course is located at 1709 Buffalo Road in Johnson City. Hello everyone, hope all is well with you. The sun is shining with a nice gentle breeze. Its starting to look like Mother Nature is giving us some nice riding weather. The week I will tell you about the 7th of 13 rides listed in the Southern Dozen handout. The Long Dam Ride (137 miles round trip) It’s no secret; the geography and landscape of Northeast Tennessee wouldn’t be the same without several man-made lakes. This tour takes you through rugged gorges and past rocky cliffs, mountain streams, tranquil lakes, unique sites, spectacular formations, and miles of roller-coaster dips and rural charm. There is no better place for motorcycle rides or in a jeep with the top down. The first stop is at Boone Dam, a hydroelectric and flood control dam on the South Fork Holston River. Continue via Bristol, where you can stop for a drink and a snack, to the next stop at the South Holston Dam, a hydroelectric and flood control dam on the South Fork Holston River in Sullivan County. Start “the Snake” a beautiful scenic and thrilling ride through the Tennessee mountains and Shady Valley into Mountain City. Stop for lunch at the Shady Valley Country

The ride continues up north via Elizabethon, where you can stop to take picture of the Covered Bridge, to Bristol Motor Speedway an NASCAR short track venue. Tri-Cities Faces and Places Celebrating the people and places of our community!
When Kim Kardashian had the audacity to announce a few months ago that “no one wants to work anymore” and we all needed to “get off our a** and work” it really stuck in my craw and I took to social media to rant about the nerve of this woman and her privilege. However, in light of recent events, I’m starting to ask myself…was Kim K actually right?? One of the most unexpected challenges I’ve faced in my new career role has been hiring folks to work events. Which comes as quite the surprise considering that inflation is at an all-time high, driving the cost of every day goods like gas and groceries through the roof. I didn’t realize the world was suddenly filled with John D. Rockefellers! Maybe everyone is getting rich off Bitcoin. When I accepted this position my main concern was going to be selling the product itself; I figured I’d have no issues finding young, broke 20somethings to work events. But the drink is so well curated it sells itself, while the promotions on the other hand are failing to work themselves. In one week alone I’ve scheduled 3 different zoom interviews with people who have responded to the job postings and a big fat ZERO have called in for it. A couple days ago a girl sent her phone number via LinkedIn
and said she was available for a phone call the next day. When I text her to confirm a time, she never responded. I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. It isn’t just me either. When chatting with a local bar manager in Johnson City, he told me he recently posted an ad for Bartenders Needed. He got 74 responses and contacted each one via email, text or phone and told them to show up for an in-person interview on a certain day at a certain time. Of those 74, 6 people actually showed up to interview and a whopping 1 person made it to their first day of work. Those are incomprehensible numbers! I’m having a hard time trying to put my finger on what is happening and how so many people are currently able to live and not work. With so many having lost jobs during the pandemic and the cost of living being absolutely astronomical, one would think that standing in a liquor store for 2-3 hours and making $100 would sound pretty darned good to anyone! For me personally, I’m still trying to get caught up from losing my job in 2020 and even with my generous salary, between increased credit card debt and Nashville quickly becoming the most expensive place on Earth to live, I’m still living paycheck to paycheck and currently exploring side hustles to work in my little bit of free time. I don’t want to sound like the old curmudgeon, shaking my fist at “these kids today,” but
there does seem to be an air of entitlement, laziness and unprofessionalism amongst many of the Gen Z-ers. While brand ambassador work is a side gig, part-time at best, I am still paying you and you’re still representing my brand, which makes me your boss even if it is just for 3 hours a week. I have never ignored a text from a superior, told them I was going to do something and didn’t show up, or spoken to a manager for the first time and not presented myself clearly and professionally; and I’ve definitely never contacted them via telephone outside of appropriate business hours. While I understand people keep different schedules, I feel if you have a question for your boss in the middle of the night, you should email it or just wait until 9-5pm the next day. This just seems like common sense to me. Manners and professional conduct are a matter of respect. You give respect to people who are helping you pay your bills by keeping your word. You also give respect to yourself by having integrity and work ethic. Dressing well and speaking legibly shows you care about your appearance which is essentially is a reflection of the company you’re representing. It also shows you take pride in caring for yourself, which is the most important investment you can make. I don’t want someone
XO - Kathie

representing my name and my brand who didn’t brush their hair or tuck in their shirt and referred to me as “bro” in the first conversation. Maybe I’m old school, but it just seems there is no desire to impress anyone anymore, whether it’s work related or dating or friendships or otherwise. Hopefully this is a temporary or regional issue I’m encountering and will pass quickly. It honestly might just be a shock because it’s my first time dealing with hiring and I’ll get used to it. The old adage “it’s hard to find good help” has been around for a hundred years for a reason. But on that note, if you know of anyone, send em my way! I’ve got lots of work if someone, somewhere would only want it. In the meantime if you need me, I’ll be on my hustle, same as always.

It isn't often a film is described as a "science fiction romantic comedy", but such is the case with the current film "Moonshot", starring Cole Sprouse of "Riverdale" and Lana Condor ("Alita: Battle Angel"). The film is set in the year 2049 and we are introduced to college student Walt (Sprouse), whose dream is to go to space. Walt feels his dream is obtainable via the Kovi Industries Student Mars Program, which sends college students to Mars. Despite his desire, he has been turned down 37 times to be a part of the program due to his lack of knowledge about furthering the exploration of Mars. Hey, he just loves outer space. One night during a college party Walt accidentally meets Sophie (Condor), an extremely intelligent student whose boyfriend Calvin (Mason Gooding) is already on Mars. The meeting between Sophie and Walt proves pivotal in his quest to reach the Red Planet. During the party Walt also meets a student named Ginny (Emily Rudd), and has an instant crush. Despite the instant crush, Walt discovers Ginny is headed to Mars the very next day, leaving

him crushed. After a few weeks have passed, Sophie talks to Walt at the cafe where he works and reveals Calvin has accepted an extended stay offer on Mars, leaving her heartbroken. Despite the setback, Walt convinces Sophie to buy a ticket to Mars to be with Calvin. After convincing Sophie to head to Mars, Walt devises a plan to stowaway on the next ship after he hears about a cat that sneaked on board one of the ships. Walt, unknown to her, uses Sophie to sneak onboard her ship, and is soon himself headed to Mars to meet up with Ginny and fulfill his dream of traveling in outer space. As expected, Sophie discovers Walt has stowed away and makes him stay in her cabin in order to stay out of trouble and keep his presence lowkey during the journey. Walt's presence on the ship is discovered by the showy captain of the ship (Michelle Buteau), who thinks Walt is actually Calvin. As the journey continues, Walt learns more about Calvin and feels he is not good for Sophie, who has dreams of her own not connected to her boyfriend. After several humorous moments on the ship, the trip to Mars ends and Walt and Sophie depart after Walt is discovered and arrested. After his arrest and her moving in with Calvin's parents, some really positive things happen for Walt, and Sophie eventually realizes she may have made a mistake. I will not reveal anything else that happens to the duo, other than to say we all know they will eventually be a couple. How they get there will be up to you to discover. I really enjoyed how this film was sweet but not in the smaltchy way of a Hallmark movie. The special effects are top notch, and the representation of
Mars in the film is spectacular. I must say the film is totally owned by Sprouse, allowing the actor to break away from his uber serious Jughead Jones character on "Riverdale ''. His performance as the well-meaning but often ditzy Walt is wonderful, and he would be the kind of friend we would all enjoy having. His co-star is also effective, but portrayed in a more low key manner by the excellent
Condor. In fact Condor's character is often so low key, she is often overpowered by Sprouse. NIckpicking aside, I found "Moonshot" to be a pleasant and fun film for Sprouse and rom-com fans. Now playing on HBO Max. (Rated PG-13)

I’ve been feeling a bit like Gladys Kravitz as of late. It’s not that I suspect anyone in my neighborhood of being a witch. Unlike some, I don’t believe we’re in the 1600s. Instead, what’s happening is that my neighbor is building a pool on the side of their house which faces my sunroom. So, every morning, afternoon, and some evenings, it’s very easy to watch and snoop and check out the progress. It all starts innocently enough. The neighbors told me that they were going to have a pool installed so I would know what was going on if I heard the noise of workers and equipment early in the morning. I appreciated the heads up as I live in constant fear of bulldozers plowing down my home for a new freeway. True to their words, a day or two later I woke to the sounds of workers and equipment. I immediately went out to the sunroom to get a look at what was going on. There was a backhoe working on excavating where the pool would go. It took a few days to finish this as there was rain moving in. Being a homeowner who is slowly turning into his father I began to fear that a

mudslide would send a huge mound of dirt down towards my home. It didn’t. About a week after the space was fully excavated came the biggest part of the show. A huge flatbed showed up with the pool insert. I went to my sunroom and watched it all, trying my best to not be noticed. I don’t think my neighbors would mind my curiosity, but I also had a fear they would think I’m being nosy by just watching things like a hawk. It was another moment when I began to think that I am becoming my elder. My grandmother was a watchdog. She could sit with a cup of coffee and one eye on “The Bold and The Beautiful” with another eye on what was going on out the window. Grandma knew the name of every dog on the street and would always perk up if she didn’t see one for a few days that usually was out, or if a strange vehicle stopped at a house for what she deemed was “a little too long.” I
knew I wasn’t going to get that bad. I wasn’t going to be in my kitchen cooking watching old episodes of “Match Game” and worrying about the number of times the UPS truck stopped across the street. I figured once the big show of getting the pool placed would be the end of my snoop party. Reader, it wasn’t. This became my own, personal, “The Bold and The Beautiful.” It went beyond just keeping an eye out through the windows of my sunroom. It moved into peaking out the blinds of the bedroom “Hmm. What’s that they’re dropping off?” I’d say to myself as a truck would leave something in a box or wrapped up in plastic on a pallet.
Jimmy Stewart in “Rear Window.” (Please read the following in a Jimmy Stewart voice, thank you) “Yeah, yeah. Those look like tiles there. Big pallets of tiles. I wonder who’ll install them?” I hope when the pool is finished it will end my snooping ways. Am I doomed to become my grandmother? Will I soon know about everything going on all around my home? Will I be able to set my clocks by the schedules of the UPS and FedEx trucks? Who can say? All I know is I never thought I’d become a snoop over a pool, yet here we are.
I hope they’ll invite me over to see the pool when it’s finished then I can act like a big shot who knows things. “Oh, yeah. Limestone, huh? I heard that’s I didn’t need whatever the newest, buzziest, binge TV craze is. I had pool really good to use around the pool. I see you’ve got the Poolflow 9000 construction to watch and wonder pump system? That’s a fine system. over. Now, at any point, I could have just asked what was what. But where Real good for filtration.” That won’t was the fun in that? I needed to snoop. seem creepy. Will it? I needed to imagine. I was becoming See you next week.
