Social Sentiments:
Come out and play is our theme this week. I hope everyone is out playing and enjoying this awesome summer! We are loving the pictures that we get on Facebook. Make sure to pick up a Loafer and see if your picture is in there. A huge welcome to the Hard Rock Casino! I have noticed they have had some big winners. Have you tried your luck yet or will you? Tax free weekend is coming so it’s a great time to start on those school supplies. I can’t believe that school will start soon but I am excited to see all of those back to school pictures. Please let us know if you need to advertise your business or event and we will be glad to work with you. Stay safe, hydrate and wear that sunscreen. Thank you for your support during our 35th year.

A rt oo Meet handsome Artoo !!! He’s a big 2 1/2 yr old solid black kitty with beautiful green eyes. Some people might say Artoo is a bit chonky !!! We think he is just full of love and purrs. He has the best time chasing a laser and running with other cats in our community room. And yeah, he might enjoy food, too. With humans he might be shy at first however he warms up to
people he knows a bit more. Artoo came to the Bridge Home very young and

Hello again hope you have been enjoying the weather and keeping your knees in the breeze. Hope you have been enjoying my little articles. The last few weeks I have you given you history lessons on a couple of motorcycle clubs. This week let’s talk about the Howling Wolves, Stars, and History Ride that the Southern Dozen have in their handout. Whether you’re traveling with the pack, or howling up the road as a lone wolf, this ride holds a destination well worth the visit. Just a few twists of the throttle will take you to a land isolated from noise and urban life—a land where deer, wild turkeys, and otters thrive alongside owls, beavers, and falcons as the waters of the mountain lake ripple and glistens in the sun. When you hear the call of this land’s noisiest inhabitants— the wolves—you’ll know you’ve reached Bays Mountain Park. Bays Mountain Park is a 3,550 acres (14.4 km2) nature park and planetarium located on Bays Mountain in Kingsport, Tennessee. The park features a nature center and outdoor native animal

displays. There is also a herpetarium with snakes and amphibians. The Park features a picturesque 44-acre lake, hiking trails, a Nature Center with a state-of-the-art Planetarium Theater, and Animal Habitats featuring wolves, bobcats, raptors and reptiles. Riverfront Seafood Restaurant - Enjoy delicious food along the beautiful riverfront 6. The Shack 7. Exchange Place Facts about the Liberty Bell: 1. The Liberty Bell pre-dates the Revolution. The Pennsylvania Assembly had the Liberty Bell
116 Buffalo Street Johnson City, TN • www.bikerweartn.com • (423) 631-0542 made in 1751 to mark the 50-year anniversary of William Penn's 1701 Charter of Privileges, which served as Pennsylvania's original Constitution. 2. What is written on the Bell? The following Bible verse is on the Bell: “Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof." Also included is information about the Pennsylvania Assembly and the Bell’s maker. 3. No one knows today when the Bell was cracked. The crack is a big subject of debate among historians. One theory is the Bell got its first crack in 1752 when it was tested upon its arrival in Philadelphia. 4. The last big crack happened on Washington’s Birthday. The Liberty Bell cracked up, literally, in February 1846, when it was rung on President’s Day, celebrated on Washington’s birthday, and then stopped ringing because of damage from a major crack. 5. The Liberty Bell rang often during its functional lifetime. Between 1753 and 1846, the Bell tolled for many people and occasions. It rang to mark the signing of the Constitution, and the deaths of Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and Thomas Jefferson. 6. The Liberty Bell wasn’t the first name of this icon. The bell was originally known as the State House Bell. In the late 1830s, it acquired the name of the Liberty Bell when it became a symbol of the anti-slavery movement.
7. The bell probably didn’t ring on July 4, 1776. A magazine writer in 1847 made up the story of the bell ringing on the first Independence Day. 8. The bell may also not have rung on July 8, 1776. It is known that bells in the city of Philadelphia were ringing to celebrate the public announcement of the Declaration of Independence. According to the Independence Hall Association, the statehouse steeple was under repair at the time, making it unlikely for the Liberty Bell to be in use. But with no contemporary accounts, we just don't know. 9. The Bell did go on a Revolutionary road trip. In 1777, the Bell was removed from Philadelphia under armed guard and taken to Allentown, Pa., where it was hidden in a church. The fear was the British would melt the Bell and use it to make cannons. It came back to Philadelphia the following year. 10. The Liberty Bell last hit the road in 1915. Back in the day, the Bell went on tour around the United States, but in the days before World War I, it became clear the Bell had condition issues. Today, it resides at the Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia, where it is occasionally tapped to mark special occasions.

A Social Media Reminder…
theloafer.net | July 19, 2022 18
Being a single gal with several single female friends, obviously a large part of our lives revolves around dating. We spend a lot time discussing the men we see, be it the good, the bad or the ugly… and trust me, we’re seeing it all. I would say that at least 65% of these conversations consist only of deciphering the male mind and trying to understand why they do the things they do. The fact that women even spend hours of their lives this way is probably the biggest difference between the sexes and best example for my point; women are naturally deeper thinkers who analyze the past, present and future of their relationships, while men typically only exist in the here and now. Quite frankly, it’s time we ladies began thinking like a man, because the female brain is exhausting.
brain is constantly firing on all cylinders instead of focusing on the actual task at hand, which is simply fulfilling our hunger. We don’t do it on purpose; we do it internally when we’re alone and we do it with our girlfriends. It would be to our benefit if we could more easily identify what we actually want and just verbalize it like our male counterparts, and that extends far beyond something as trivial as food. There’s no debate that women are paid far less in the workforce than men, and I wonder sometimes how much of that has to do with the fact that men aren’t afraid to ask for a raise or negotiate more money up front, while we’re over here “not wanting to cause a scene” by speaking up. And even with relationships, women will stew on things, letting them build up over time until they’re boiling over and they flip out about a litany of One area of improvement where men grievances that started because you are leading over women, is that they forgot to put the toilet lid down. I just say outright what they want. I’m don’t know why women aren’t more speaking in general terms here, but proactive in addressing something for the most part men don’t play the that is bothering them while it’s communication games that women happening in an effort to immediately do, whether women are doing it correct the behavior and save major consciously or subconsciously. headaches down the road. For example, the unending food Along the same lines of men saying conundrum. Ask any man what he wants to eat and you’ll typically get a what they want, you also have to take one word answer – “Pizza.” “Burgers.” their words at face value whether it’s what you want to hear or not. In “Applebees.” Or they’ll say “I don’t care” and they’ll actually mean it. Ask the same way a man will tell you exactly what he wants to eat and a woman that however and you’re you should believe him, you must opening Pandora’s Box. “I dunno… what are you thinking? I kind of want believe he means everything else, sometimes regardless of his actions. Asian food but not like Thai but not Many women end up in dead end, Chinese either. But I just ate Indian months-long “situationships” where food last week. Didn’t you and your ex go to that Asian restaurant all the their feelings get hurt because they didn’t believe the guy who said he time? Wow. Looks like all you can didn’t want a relationship. These do is think about her.” The female men will tell you that repeatedly, all the while they’re spending their nights at your home, taking you on dates and giving every sign that this is in fact a real relationship. Women
will tell themselves “he’s just scared of commitment,” or “he’s coming around” and in their mind they’re in a full-blown partnership. Then one day the guy will hook up with someone else, go on another date, or decide to move across the country without telling you and all you’ll get as a parting gift is “I told you I didn’t want a relationship.” Does that mean you have to just accept this kind of behavior as par for the course? Absolutely not! This is where women need to enforce that “man-think” and verbalize what they want equally. If you actually do want a relationship, say that up front. If something big is a deal-breaker like wanting children, put that out there. However, you have to be willing to walk away if they’re not sharing the same mindset, which is why it’s so important to really know exactly what you want and express it sooner than better. You will save yourself so much future heartache, because many women falsely believe men will change and I promise you this with everything I know to be true beyond doubt- you can NOT change a grown man. And the more you compromise your own needs and wants, or the more times you let them lie to you, the more they will lose respect for your boundaries and continue to test them. A liar will always lie, cheaters will continue to cheat, a man nearing 50 who says he doesn’t want any more children isn’t going to change his mind; don’t be the doormat who looks stupid in the end when you have the option to set boundaries for what you want up front and allow them to decide if they want to stay on board. As backward as it sounds, (because it’s scientifically proven men physically speak much less than women on a daily basis) us ladies have to be better communicators. More specifically, we need to learn to

be more direct and proactive about what we want. If a man asks you “what’s wrong,” don’t do the girl thing and say “nothing” because you’re really wanting him to coax it out of you or you feel like he should already know. Become so secure in yourself that you know exactly what you want and you’re ok with walking away from people who don’t align with that. And stop attaching make-believe messages to spoken words- believe people when they tell you who they are or what they want. If they’re being confusing with their actions, ask for clarification, then walk away. Those people are getting something from you while you’re draining yourself for them. It’s time for us to admit that for once, men might actually be right about something and adopt this to-thepoint mindset!

If you love animals, have pets, or just love a show that will make you happy and filled with wonder then I suggest you check out the new Netflix show "The Hidden Lives of Pets." The series is four episodes long and follows various humans and their extraordinary pets. The first episode is entitled "Intelligence" and features a border collie who loves to BASE jump with his master, a dancing cockatoo, and racing rats. I especially enjoyed the border collie in this episode who after watching his human BASE jump many times, is eventually thrilled to jump off a cliff with his owner. Of course the dancing cockatoo is a hoot to watch and has become a social media star. The second episode is called "Communication" and highlights a canine who communicates with his human by pressing buttons that say various words, sometimes even two

at a time to make a small sentence. The dog's ability is being studied for the ability to see how humans and dogs can better communicate. The episode also features the vocal abilities of parrots, one of which lives in a zoo, and has the uncanny knack of "teasing" his trainer. Episode three is entitled "Super Senses" and displays the fascinating heat-seeking abilities of newly born puppies whose eyes haven't opened, soccer playing goldfish (yes!) and a cat who loves hiking with his human, and has the ability to always get them back to camp via a built-in GPS. The fourth and final episode of the series is entitled "Athletes" and features the ultra-speedy greuster dogs, the agility of a rabbit, and some endurance champ tortoises. The series is narrated by Hugh Bonneville of "Downton Abbey" fame and his voice is perfect for the series. We all know animals have various talents, but this series really brings said talents into the spotlight. Have you ever seen a rabbit paint? Dogs that predict seizures? A rat driving a car? A surfing dog? A lizard that can perform an act of opening a closed window after watching a video with instructions? Well you will on this show! Every episode is full of surprises, and will make you look twice at your pet or the one living next
door. Animals have always been more intelligent than they often are credited for, as this series clearly displays. Even if you have no pets, you may want to adopt or buy one after viewing the series. I highly recommend this show for the entire family, and kids will especially enjoy seeing all the fascinating abilities of the animals featured. The
series is a quick watch with all episodes running 33 minutes and under. If you need a break from the harsh realities of the world, be sure to catch "The Hidden Lives of Pets" now playing on Netflix. (Rated TV-G)

Warner Archive brings a pair of films to blu-ray this month for the first time. One film features Errol Flynn in one of his final swashbuckling roles, the other features a team-up that I had no clue existed till the movie showed up on my doorstep. From 1948 director Vincent Sherman gives us “Adventures of Don Juan,” then from 1979, Robert Aldrich gives us Gene Wilder and a hot off of “Star Wars” Harrison Ford in “The Frisco Kid.” Erroll Flynn will always be immortalized to movie lovers for playing the title role in 1938’s “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” he’s the defining icon of screen swashbucklers and one could easily make the argument he was the first real “action star” of the movies. But by the late ‘40s Flynn career was a bit hit or miss at the box office. It didn’t help that Flynn was also a bad alcoholic by this point in time. Warner Brothers decided to run Flynn to his roots by planning a new swashbuckler for him,

“Adventures of Don Juan.” In some ways it plays a bit like a soft follow up to “Robin Hood,” shot in lavish Technicolor the film features Flynn as the infamous romancer. Starring alongside Flynn is Alan Hale and Viveca Linfords.
“Adventures of Don Juan.” All of this makes for a great bluray package that comes highly recommended.
Director Robert Aldrich had a very varied career, but perhaps today might be best know to audiences for helming the only pairing of The movie is a great deal of fun, Hollywood titans Bette Davis the perfect kind of Saturday and Joan Crawford, “Whatever matinee film. Flynn is great in Happened to Baby Jane?” In the role and the costumes are the late ‘70s, Aldrich paired up superb—the film would win an another set of iconic stars in “The Oscar for costume design. At Frisco Kid,” sticking Gene Wilder under two hours, “Adventures of and Harrison Ford together in an Don Juan” is a good time for all unlikely buddy comedy that turns involved. The new blu-ray from Warner Archive features a dazzling into a real charming little gem of new scan from original sources. On a film. a modern display that Technicolor I had no clue that Wilder and Ford is absolutely stunning and rivals ever appeared together in a film. even the latest and greatest from To the frank, I was quite surprised Hollywood in terms of eye candy. when this one showed in in a press email from Warner Archive. I Special features are ported knew I had to see the film as who from from the prior DVD release, doesn’t love Gene Wilder? Wilder and that’s a welcomed thing as plays a rabbi from Poland coming they’re all rock solid. First off is a to America in 1850. Wilder is on his very good commentary with the way to a new appointment in San director, Vincent Sherman, and Francisco when he meets and soon the always great historian Rudy parents up with a bank robber, Behlmer. This is followed by a really fun presentation option that Ford, as he tires to make his way Warner featured on a handful of their classic film DVD releases, “Warner Night at the Movies 1948.” The “Warner Night at the Movies” features gives you the chance to experience an at-home recreation of what going to see this movie in the theater would have been like. Selecting this shows you before the movie a newsreel, two short subjects, and a cartoon. Exactly what movie going audiences of the era were used to when they went to the movies. The “1948” tag at the end means they’ve matched all the shorts to the year the film was released, meaning there is a very good chance what you’re seeing is exactly what was shown with
across a totally new world to him. The film was marketed as another “Blazing Saddles” type comedy, and it is a funny movie but it’s a bit of a misnomer to put in the same league as a Mel Brooks film. The film does suffer from being a little too long, but by the end I found myself charmed by this movie with a very sweet message at its center. Ford and Wilder make for a good team and it’s a shame they never worked together again. Warner Archive’s blu-ray of “The Frisco Kid” looks very good with cinematography typical of a film from the late 1970s. The film is clear, sharp, with an accurate amount of grain. The only special feature is a trailer for the movie. But all in all, this is a welcomed release that’s wroth a look. I alway champion when more movies come out on blu-ray, and Warner Archive truly leads that charge dipping into their vaults every month. Both of these titles are worth your time and I hope you’ll check them out. See you next week.
