Hello everyone, hope you and your family are doing well. Please continue to ride safe and watch out for the cage, deer, bear, dogs, cats, and grass. A lot of folks have gone down this year due to these factors. Keep your eyes open and your knees in the breeze. This week I am going to write about Big Boy Pop Ups and the good they do in our communities. Two years I was looking for a new food vendor for our Bike Rally. I called Daniel Wilson and he gave me a list of vendors. He said they were all good but Big Boy Pop Ups was one of the best. So, I called TJ the owner and invited him to cook at 7th Annual Snake Pit Bike Rally. When Big Boy Pop Ups arrived a 350-pound, 6-foot 2 inches, black man stepped out of his truck. It didn’t take me long to figure out this was my brother from another mother. I even learned he hears better out of his right ear; he doesn’t seem to hear anything in his left ear. TJ and his entire team are and always will be the only food vendor for us. By the time the rally ended everybody told me that was the only food vendor I would ever need at the rally. The Big Boys team fit right in and were so helpful and the food was off the chain. Since then, TJ and his team have become not just friends but family. Now for a little history about Big Boys Pop Ups. TJ being a BIG BOY WHO LOVES TO EAT (350lbs) Had a passion for cooking great food so in 2019 he started Big Boy Pop Ups with nothing more than a kitchen stove, a small grill, a vision, strong family ties and friends cheering him on. But at the same time, he knew he wanted to always give back to the Sincecommunity.theearlydays of this outstanding food vendor, Big Boys has grown by leaps and bounds. They can set up big dining tents, large smokers, huge grill and cook on site at any event no matter how small or how big these folks can handle anything you throw at them. They make some of the BEST tacos on the planet, BBQ, Fish, Turkey, Slaw, Mac & cheese, Beans and so much more. They can do Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. If you have not eaten at the Big Boys Pop Up Food vendor, then you are missing out on not just some great food but on some awesome fellowship. This company has given so much back to our communities and continues too so. They have helped countless kids, veterans, seniors, and folks in need. They do a Thanksgiving Dinner every year and feed families for free. Every year they help local school kids get their supplies for school. The list is endless of the things they do to help those in need. On August 20th, 2022, is one of their events The Back to School Bash at Douglas Community Park 804 South Watauga Ave. Elizabethton, TN 11am to 5pm. Big Boy Pop Ups will be feeding everybody free. Chicken, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, BBQ, Mac & Cheese etc. plus a free soda. There will be bounce houses, a basketball tournament, games and much more. They are asking for school supplies to help local kids. If you ever seen them out or know where they are sitting up stop by and show them the same love and support, they show our Herecommunities.isasmall list of items needed.

Yourpost.connections care deeply about what you're going through and want to help you. They're left sitting around wondering what they could do to get you through your situation and feeling Alerthelpless.your connections if you feel you will be more withdrawn by simply saying that you'll be off of social media for a while to handle a situation in your life and that you will discuss it when you're ready (if you can). Sometimes you need to let your world know that you're not in the right mindset to handle questions or talk about the issue. The way that you present your social media absence will make or break how serious you are taken. Approach your absence with caution and avoid the cringe post that will leave everyone hanging.

After about a year and a half, I realized he was pretty lonely between all the time I was spending at school full-time and working 2 part-time jobs during the day. I made the decision he needed a friend, and after a long time following Small Breed Rescue of East Tennessee on Facebook, one day in 2007 I found him. Skelly, or ‘Wizard’ as they had him named on the website, just jumped out of the page at me as soon as I saw him. He was around the same size, was the same age and with his silky white coat and big pink ears, I fell in love instantly. After a home inspection, some paper work and the adoption fee, his foster mom brought him home to me and they were the dynamic duo all the way up to 2015 when the Sherman monster crashed into our home and made our twosome a triple threat. Shermy is the best bad boy in all the land. He terrorized his way into all our hearts when he was 6 months old, with his adorable under-bite and a puppy mentality that now at the age of 7 seems to just be staying forever. For a stodgy old couple of almost 10 years, it was a breath of fresh air for Mousey and Skeletor, much to Mousey’s chagrin. With all that being said, the last 3 weeks have been an unexpected nightmare because quite frankly I always expected Mousey to be the first to go- since 2 years ago a vet issued him a 6-month death sentence- but instead Skelly has been the one to take a nosedive. I came home Saturday the 6th and he was unable to put his back right paw down. He didn’t seem to be in pain, so I waited til first thing Monday morning to take him to the vet. He has been healthy as a horse and refuses to use his doggy stairs, so I just assumed he jumped off the couch and maybe hurt his hip. Following an x-ray where they unintentionally discovered a large mass on his kidney and a misdiagnosis of sprain that turned out to be a torn ACL, his diagnosis is worst case scenario. I was given 2 options by a vet- attempt a risky surgery to repair the ACL, which at his age and the kidney disease he would never survive, or administer high powered pain medications daily to “keep him comfortable” which will slowly poison his little body and basically keep him sedated until his only working kidney fails and he dies. No thanks.
To say the last 3 weeks have been tough would be a gross understatement. It’s been, in fact, probably top 2 hardest times in my life. After being blessed with 17 beautiful, healthy, and love-filled years with my dogs, 1 of them has suddenly dipped over to that critical stage of life where things are going wrong and his little body is getting tired. And I have another one of the same age who isn’t far behind him. This process can’t be easy for anyone, but being the sole captain of this ship and trying to battle the storm alone has been nothing short of Foragonizing.thosewho don’t know, I have 3 dogs named Mousey, Skeletor and Sherman. Mousey and Skeletor (or Skelly) are Chihuahuas, Sherman is a Pomeranian and they’re all rescues, who actually rescued me. Mousey came along first, when I got my first apartment during my first year of college in 2005. I was volunteering at the animal shelter for college credits, when one day I came in and this tiny angel was sitting all alone in a big concrete cell, shivering and petrified. I called an ex boyfriend and asked him to loan me the $100 or so that it took to adopt him and took him home where his little presence fit perfect into my 400 sq ft apartment.
I have to return all that love, trust and bravery and get them through this the best way I know how. It might be the hardest thing I’ll ever do. Love your pets extra today. We don’t deserve them.

The level of callous and emotionless veterinary “care” I’ve received over the last 3 weeks has been a slap in the face. Beyond not being able to put weight on his back leg and becoming a snob about his dog food, Skeletor is otherwise still fine. He’s got an appetite, he’s alert, inquisitive, loving, skipping around on his 3 good legs and drinking water. This is not a dog who is ready to be put down, but that was the only option I was given. Basically “he’s 17 and not going to recover. Let’s just take him back behind the woodshed like Old Yeller and do the humane thing.” There was no offer for water therapy, no options for gentle exercises, or being told how to jazz up his dog food. When I told them he really enjoyed the boiled chicken and rice with carrots I was making him but was concerned he might be lacking crucial nutrients that dog food provided, they just said it didn’t matter what I fed him, served an outrageous bill for services rendered and prescriptions for codine and morphine. I’m choosing to go with my heart. I’m not providing him with “end of life care,” I’m going to give him EXTRA life care for as long as he has left. Extra yummy food, extra love and paying extra close attention to the signs he’s giving me. When he’s ready to pass through to the next phase of this journey, he will let me know. Until then, I’m feeding him steak, chicken, burgers and rice, potatoes, peas and if he seems uncomfortable, supplementing with small doses of pain medications. I am not knocking this dog out so he can just be in a medical coma until it’s time to go, as was prescribed. That seems like the most inhumane thing to do. No one prepared me for how hard this was going to be. I’m single with no children and no plans for any; these dogs truly are my kids. For half my life they’ve experienced everything with me, from moves, job changes, marriages, divorce, heartbreak, college Theycuddlebeenbirthdays…throughgraduations, itallthey’vetherewithawaggingtail, aandunconditionallove.trustmeimplicitlyandnow

TV character Fred Sanford used to say. Johnson and Jarvis have wonderful chemistry, and at times Jarvis appears as if he may implode at the mere site of Anne. I must admit I never felt Johnson was one of the best actors ever to come out of Hollywood, but she is very effective in this film. Her character talks directly to the audience during the film, and while I found this annoying at first, I actually came to enjoy
Persuasion
If you are a fan of the television series "Bridgerton" or "Downton Abbey" you will want to check out the new film "Persuasion" based on the Jane Austen novel of the same name. I'm sure if you have read any of the Austen novels you will be watching. The film is set in England, and the country never looked so beautiful as it does in this film. The story follows Anne Elliot (Dakota Johnson) as she deals with her family and pines for her lost love Captain Frederick Wentworth (Cosmo Jarvis), who she was persuaded not to marry seven years before, as he was of humble origins. As if her loss isn't enough, she must constantly deal with her snobby family, led by her vain, and often hilarious father Sir Walter Ellito (Richad E. Grant), her older and self absorbed sister Elizabeth (Yolanda Kettle), and her lazy and hypercondriac sister Mary (Mia McKenna-Bruce). Feeling exasperated by her family, she dreams of Frederick often, following his naval exploits from newspapers and wonders if he still longs for her despite their hurtful breakup. An opportunity presents a reunion with Fredrick after Anne is called to Mary's home to care for her "sick" sister, who claims to be on death's door, but is so lazy it takes every effort for her to walk. While she is at her sister's home, her father and older sister have left their estate due to financial problems, and have rented the home to a couple Anne finds out have a connection to Fredrick. Of course, Fredrick is coming to visit, leaving the door open for a certain awkward reunion. While Anne is excited about the prospect of seeing her former love, she is continuing to deal with her relatives and the appearance of a dashing man named Mr. Elliot (Henry Godling), who has an unexpected connection to the Elliot family. Mr. Elliot is wealthy, something most characters in these films desire, and develops an attraction for Anne, leaving her with conflicting feelings. However, the attraction between Frederick and Anne has never cooled, and the two are constantly staring at each other even though Frederick is cool toward his former love at first, confesses he wants them to be "friends" (right). Further complicating matters is the sudden attraction of one of Anne's sister-in-laws toward Frederick, who even though she wants Anne to be happy, sets her sights on the Captain. Despite all his efforts to charm Anne, Mr. Elliot fails to completely win her over, as Anne knows her only true love is Frederick. While I have never read an Austen novel, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see where the story will lead, but it is fun getting there. I really enjoyed the actors portraying the Elliot family, with Grant leading the way as Anne's narcissistic father. Mckenna-Bruce is very effective as the whiny Mary, and is so funny/annoying you want to smack her, and I wish Anne had given her one "across the lips" as the bit. It was especially effective when Anne was discussing her family with a wink and a nod. With lavish sets, beautiful scenery, witty dialogue and charismatic leads, "Persuasion" is a pleasant diversion for those who enjoy period romantic films. Now streaming on Netflix. (Rated PG)

child saying “Mommy, mommy! What’s wrong with that man? Why does no one want to eat with him?” followed by the mother quickly shushing the child. None of this happened, the host just marked down a table with the little grease pencil and then led me to it. I sat down at the table and was told my waiter would be with me shortly. I unfolded the menu and began to look it over. It looked good, and my hunger increased. My waiter came around after I had about a minute or so to give it all a glance, they asked for my drink, and a few moments later they were back with it. I knew I wasn’t quite ready to order, as I was having a few micro-debates in my brain over which item I wanted. I told the waiter to come back in a few, and they disappeared into the ether of the Muchrestaurant.likeanNCAA bracket, I was whittling contenders down in my brain till I had just two left. What felt like five minutes went by and I finally decided on the dish I was going to order. I folded my menu and placed it on the table, sliding it a few inches away from me, the international sign of “I am ready to order now, thank you.” I looked around to see if my waiter was buzzing around anywhere near my table. They weren’t, so I assumed they were in the back to get food for another table. A minute passed, I picked up my phone and began idly looking over Twitter to pass the time. Another minute passed, and still no sign of the waiter. I switched over to Instagram. I became more invested in Instagram and suddenly realized that it had been about seven minutes since I picked up my phone. “Well, it’s a busy night, they’ll be here soon,” I thought and began to check out Facebook. By now a full fifteen minutes had passed since I sat the menu down. I began to be concerned that something happened to my waiter, however, when I looked up from my phone I could see them in a distant part of the restaurant taking food to another table. I placed my phone down as I now thought they’d be back to me in no time. Sure enough, they began to walk towards the section my table was in, went right up to another table, and took their order. Was it me? Was it something I said? Did I forget to put on my human mask that covers my up true, hideous alien form? I looked in the reflection of my phone. Nope, I looked like I always do. Did I say something without realizing it? Did I show up on a day where the thought of a lone diner on a quest for hunger and justice was going to be too much of a pain to deal with? My anxiety took over and I began to wonder about all the ways that I somehow brought an aura with me that said: “avoid this man at all Didcosts.”Iforget the deodorant? Did I look like I bathed myself in kerosene and washed my hair with lighter fluid? Why did they decide to shun me? Is there a secret Facebook group that knows where I’m going to eat and likes to mess with me? What on earth was the reason? Other than a busy restaurant on a weekday night where they might be slightly understaffed. My anxiety soon switched to determination. I was going to stay here until I ate, I didn’t care how long it took. I could keep this up for days. They could have fired the entire staff and hired new people and I wouldn’t budge until someone took my order and brought me food. After what was almost a solid thirty-five minutes, my waiter finally returned to my table, pad in hand, ready to take my order. As the waiter stood there, I noticed a few things. They were out of breath, and sweaty, and their clothes were covered in blood. “Sorry about the wait,” they said “one of the chicken’s in the back re-animated and we had a hell of a time trying to get things under control. Anyway, our specials today are…” Just goes to show you how silly our minds can be, where something as simple as a zombie chicken attacking everyone in the chicken, can cause us to think that we have an issue and are unappealing to the world at large. Keep this in mind the next time you’re out having dinner and notice it takes the wait staff a while to get back to you. There could be all kinds of battles going on behind those swinging doors. See you next week.
