Asking You to

Hello Friends!

We had a great time last weekend with Wrecking Crew Harley Davidson as they attended Hazzard Fest and welcomed Mark Boone and Michael Irby.

Fall!? Really? I feel like we skipped from the hottest part of Summer to the chill of early Winter. It has been pretty chilly. What are your plans for Fall? We have Fall break this week and are visiting my daughter and her family in San Antonio, Texas. Family time is the best time for me! I love driving around looking at the gorgeous Fall decorations. I look forward to seeing the pictures you send in to us. Pumpkins are so festive!

Our staff is currently working on a special 35th year celebration issue and we would love to have everyone participate. We feel like most every business has something to celebrate so come celebrate with us!

Thank you for your continued support!

Take Care, Lisa Durbin Publisher

Beanz Biker CornerBeanz Biker Corner

Hello everyone Fall is here and our riding season is slowly coming to an end but there are still a lot of rallies, rides and local events going on. The leaves are changing colors so go out riding on 2 wheels or 4 wheels and enjoy the view. As always be safe and keep your knees in the breeze. Football season is here, so let’s chat about that.

College football refers to American or Canadian football played by teams of student athletes. It was through college football play that American football rules first gained popularity in the United States. Unlike most other sports in North America, no official minor league farm organizations exist in American or Canadian football. Therefore, college football is generally considered to be the second tier of American and Canadian football; one step ahead of high school competition, and one step below professional competition. In some areas of the US, especially the South and the Midwest, college football is more popular than professional football, and for much of the 20th century college football was seen as more prestigious. A player's performance in college football directly impacts his chances of playing professional football. The best collegiate players will typically declare for the professional draft after three to four years of collegiate competition, with the NFL holding its annual NFL draft every spring in which 256 players are selected annually. Those not selected can still attempt to land an NFL roster spot as an

undrafted free agent.

Even after the emergence of the professional National Football League (NFL), college football has remained extremely popular throughout the U.S. Although the college game has a much larger margin for talent than its pro counterpart, the sheer number of fans following major colleges provides a financial equalizer for the game, with Division I programs - the highest levelplaying in huge stadiums, six of which have seating capacity exceeding 100,000 people. In many cases, college stadiums employ bench-style seating, as opposed to individual seats with backs and arm rests (although many stadiums do have a small number of chair back seats in addition to the bench seating). This allows them to seat more fans in a given amount of space than the typical professional stadium, which tends to have more features and comforts for fans. College athletes, unlike players in the NFL, are not permitted by the NCAA to be paid salaries. Colleges are only allowed to provide non-monetary compensation such as athletic scholarships that provide for tuition, housing, and books.

College football expanded greatly during the last two decades of the 19th century. Several major rivalries date from this time period. November 1890 was an active time in the sport. In Baldwin City, Kansas, on November 22, 1890, college football was first played in the state of Kansas. Baker beat Kansas 22–9.

On the 27th, Vanderbilt played Nashville (Peabody) at Athletic Park and won 40–0. It was the first-time organized football played in the state of Tennessee. The 29th also saw the first instance of the Army–Navy Game. Navy won 24–0.

(SEC) expanded to twelve universities and split into two divisions in 1992. Florida and Tennessee were placed in the SEC's East Division and have met on a homeand-home basis every season since. Their rivalry quickly blossomed in intensity and importance in the 1990s and early 2000s as both programs regularly fielded national championship contending teams under

coaches Phil Fulmer of Tennessee and Steve Spurrier at Florida. Tennessee dominated the rivalry's early years, winning the first ten meetings and holding a 13–2 lead in the series after beating the Gators in 1971. Florida has held the advantage since then, especially since the schools became SEC East rivals in 1992.

Useless Facts About College Football

1. President Gerald Ford stood up for civil rights in 1934 by threatening to quit his college football team, unless they let Willis Ward (African American) play against the south’s Georgia Tech. He agreed to play only after Ward asked him to, because they couldn’t afford to lose that game.

5. On average 12 high school and college football players die each year during practices and games.

If you live in Tennessee or Florida, then you know all too well the rivalry between these 2 teams. The Florida–Tennessee football rivalry, sometimes referred to as the " Third Saturday in September ", is an American college football rivalry between the Florida Gators football team of the University of Florida and Tennessee Volunteers football team of the University of Tennessee, who first met on the football field in 1916. The Gators and Vols have competed in the same athletic conference since Florida joined the now-defunct Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1910, and the schools were founding members of the Southeastern Conference in 1932. Despite this long conference association, a true rivalry did not develop until the early 1990s due to the infrequency of earlier meetings; in the first seventy-six years (1916–91) of the series, the two teams met just twentyone times. The Southeastern Conference

6. Out of 1.086 million high school football players, only 70,147 begin a college football career, out of which only 6500 get scouted by the NFL, 350 get invited to the combine, 256 get drafted and only 150 (0.01%) last at least four years in the NFL.

7. Four college football players entered a store in New Jersey that was closed but left unlocked. Security footage shows them leave money on counter for items they wanted.

8. Dr. Phil played linebacker for Tulsa. His team lost to the University of Houston 100–6 in one of the most lopsided games in college football history.

9. A 1968 college football game between Harvard and Yale ended in a 29-29 tie, but the next day the Harvard Crimson ran the headline "Harvard Beats Yale 29-29," as Yale had been so heavily favored that the tie was viewed as a de facto victory. The actor Tommy Lee Jones played on the Harvard team.

10. Marcus Allen is the only person to ever win a Heisman Trophy, College Football National Title, NFL MVP, a Super Bowl & Super Bowl MVP

11. In 1931 when President Ronald Reagan played on the football team for Eureka College, took in two rival team black players in his personal home, who were denied admission into a hotel when they were going to play against Eureka. He remained friends with one of the men until they died in 1981

As a Regional Market Manager by trade, I cover 4 different distributor territories in 3 states which is approximately 87,000 square miles in total. What I’m trying to tell you is, I spend a LOT of time in a car. As I was cruising along I-40 on one of my many 5-hour trips, I realized I was fighting the wheel pretty significantly to keep things between the lines. I started thinking back to when I last had my tires rotated and aligned and realized I was way past due. And because I do most of my deep thinking when I’m alone in the car, I also recognized I am more out of alignment on a personal level than my Nissan Rogue. Some might blame it on Mercury Retrograde, I say my internal Michelins need a tuneup.

According to someone smarter than me on Google, “Wheel alignment is integral to automotive health and should not be ignored. Tire rotation can help to minimize wear and tear, but it doesn’t make up for wheels that aren’t angled according to your factory specifications.” Like vehicles, human beings must also keep their alignment in check or it can be totally catastrophic. If your thoughts and actions aren’t angled toward your goals, you’re gonna wear yourself down fighting the wheel all over the road trying to get there. And

Alignment

while you can get by for a while by maintaining the superficial, eventually if you don’t take care of the core issue it will become detrimental. Like my mechanic friends on Google said, “The longer you wait to address small issues, the more they end up costing you in the long run.”

Based on my assessment of the people I admire and aspire to be like, a person must have these 4 “tires” in alignment to achieve true happiness and success: finances, relationships, spirituality and physical health. You’d be hard pressed to find any life issue that doesn’t fall into one of these categories, and if you’re not satisfactory at minimum in them all, you’re always going to feel like you’re falling short. Quite frankly I would give myself an F for Effort in all of the above, and boy does it show; at this point, I’ve been fighting the road so long my tires are bald and the wires are showing.

Like basically everyone else, I’m feeling the effects of inflation in the post-Covid America. My relationships in the romance department are laughable at best, traumatizing at worst, and even my friendships and family ties have mostly dissipated due to work/life conflicts and growing pains. Spirituality is an area of my life that’s never been of importance to me, and while I’m not feeling a calling to any religion in particular, I have been feeling a deep need to answer my own personal ‘why’

as a way to justify my presence having purpose. And finally, health… blah. Physical and mental, I’m being neglectful and it’s impacting everything from my digestive system to my sleep patterns and is the first tire on the verge of a blowout.

All of this seems super daunting as a whole, but the most beautiful thing about life is that you can start over at any moment you choose; I’ve done it over and again, and I’ll do it now. Even better news, adjusting my alignment won’t cost a dime and- being my own mechanic- I have total control of how long my “car” is in the shop. Aligning your well-being for true success and happiness is no one’s responsibility but your own, and the moment you realize that it’s as much a wake-up call as it is a relief.

I’m also not suggesting you have to be “killin’ it” in these areas to be successful, but you MUST feel satisfied with your efforts on a personal level, wherever that bar lies for you and without limiting yourself for continued growth. For example, right now being debt-free with 3 months living in savings would make me completely comfortable. However, I don’t want to set that as my goal, because ultimately I want more. At the same time, I don’t need to set my expectations at Jeff Bezos levels, because then I’m never going to feel like I achieved anything. It’s a balancing act that takes setting realistic, attainable goals

and moving the post up a notch every time it comes within arm’s reach.

The mind is truly the most difficult muscle to train, and if you can discipline yourself you can do literally anything. It takes so much and yet so little effort to realize YOU’RE the one standing in your own way. The body is only limited by the brain and you can achieve so much more than you give yourself credit for. Right now my insides nor outsides align with the person I want to be, so it’s time to give myself a tuneup and get back on track. It’s time to start replacing those old, slick donuts (even if I can only afford to do it one at a time) so I can keep my car on the road to success!

XO

Kathie

Me Time

Don't get me wrong I do like Kevin Hart but I feel Hollywood has wasted his talents with "comedies". In the current film "Me Time" Hart is often reduced to fighting with a CGI mountain lion among other silly activities. Hart co-stars with Mark Wahlberg who has had his own hits and misses, so why can't this duo be successful together? Hart and Wahlberg play best friends Sonny Fisher and Huck Dembo respectively, with Sonny the married one and Huck the single one. The friends used to meet up every year on Huck's birthday, but stopped meeting 15 years ago due to Sonny's near death experience, which we are witness to. Currently, Sonny is a stayat-home dad, and is not happy when Huck contacts him to be part of his yearly birthday celebration which usually involves some

Pop Life

extravagant event. At first Sonny refuses to go, but after his wife Maya (Regina Hall) encourages him to have some "me time", he agrees to stay home while his wife and kids leave town. Sonny soon becomes bored and decides to join Huck's birthday adventure. When Sonny joins Huck and his cohorts, he finds them skinny dipping, and after the shock wears off, he joins the group on their party bus which has Huck's face plastered on the side. Having no idea where they are headed, Sonny is surprised to find the group dumped in the desert by the bus where there are communal yurts set up. Huck then provides the group with various weapons and advises them they are to use the knives, swords, etc to forage for food. Sonny is not happy with any of this, and is able to finally get a cell phone signal in order to reach his wife, who he discovers is helping her wealthy client Armando (Luis Gerardo Mendez) after he arrives at Maya's parents house in a seaplane. The rest of the story involves a loan shark, a break in at Armando's house, an injured tortoise, and a wild party at Sonny's to celebrate Huck's birthday. The party is accidentally shared on social media and becomes

a rager, with singer Seal showing up. While the party is in full swing, Maya and the kids arrive home, and she is so furious, takes the kids and leaves Sonny. Her actions set up the expected eventual reunion for the couple, and a surprise, or not so surprising joint business venture for Sonny and Huck. The performances in the film match the material given, which is often tacky and a

waste for both actors. Hart and Wahlberg do work well together, and it would be nice to see them teamed up in a better film. If you desire a silly comedy with little to offer other than a few chuckles here and there, "Me Time" is your film, otherwise find something better. Now playing on Netflix. (Rated R)

I Am Asking You to Watch Confess, Fletch

Look. I like Jon Hamm. You like Jon Hamm. Jon Hamm went on “Comedy Bang Bang” and freestyle a song bout the sitcom “Taxi,” forever cementing him in my mind as a sweet baby who is a delight. He stars and produced a new adaptation of the novel “Confess, Fletch” where he stars as reporter turned detected I.M. Fletcher, AKA “Fletch.”

Yes, this is the same character that Chevy Chase brought to the screen twice in the ‘80s. Though in those films it was more or less Chevy Chase being “Chevy Chase as Fletch.” In this new film, directed by Greg Motoloa, Hamm’s take on the role is much closer to the book version by Fletch’s creator, the late Gregory MacDonald.

Based on the 1976 novel on the same name, the second

published with the character, “Confess, Fletch” has Hamm alongside, Lorenza Izzo, Marcia Gay Harden, Kyle MacLachlan, Roy Wood Jr. and John Slattery. Yes! We get that “Mad Men” reunion you’ve been waiting for. Fletch comes back to Boston after spending some time in Italy only to find a dead woman in the Airbnb his girlfriend booked for him.

The cops all think he did it, but Fletch soon works his investigative journalist skills to disprove them. This is such fun and funny movie. Plus, it plays fair with the mystery! If you pay attention you can actually solve who it is. The movie also makes me happy as it reminds of me something. Movies. Specifically, that in this day of reboots and superheroes— and I like superheroes, don't

twist this—that the midbudget studio movie can still be a thing.

That’s why it’s all the more infuriating that for reasons unknown, Paramount has decided to not market this movie at all. It’s been dumped into extremely limited released in theaters and video on demand, with it coming to Showtime for streaming later this month. Here is a movie that is such a delightful, refreshing change of pace, and it’s been given absolutely zero chance at the box office.

I want, nay, need more movies in this series with Jon Hamm. This is why, dear reader, this week I am imploring you to rent “Confess, Fletch” from the video service of your choice.

It’s such a great movie, such a great time, and has been given the wrong end of this stick for reasons only known to boring accountants in a tower somewhere.

It’s been a VERY long time since a new movie made me to want to go to bad as hard as “Confess, Fletch” does. I’m gonna buy this as soon as it hits physical media. Heck, I may buy a bunch of copies and give them out at Christmas. I want this movie to do well, I want to get a sequel. If you too have companied about it all being “reboots and remakes” then give this one a chance. It’s VERY worth your time. See you next week.
