Grace Estate Buyers Beats Local Offers by $100,000!

Fort White resident who wished not to be identified visited two local dealers with his Jade collection last week. After receiving $1,000 to $1500 offers from “shop local advertisers” he decided to set an appointment with the Grace Estate Buyers Auction Division. Grace Estate Buyers of Tallahassee and their auction division -Manor Auctions is an International Auction and Buying Company with offices throughout the southeast and a weekly local satellite office in Lake City at the Comfort Suites. Malcolm Mason the companies chief auctioneer viewed the items and suggested they go to Auction and that he NOT sell them locally. On Saturday February 19th 2011, in Tallahassee Florida, a crowded room of nearly 100 in person bidders, plus internet bidders and telephone bidders from around the world slugged it out for the Fort White Jade collection. First up was a Censor, bidding was fast and furious with opening bids of $7,000 which were well above projected openings. Quickly the bids eclipsed $10,000 and Oriental bidders did not even flinch at $12,000. When the final hammer fell $15,600 was the winning bid. Next came a hand carved white Jade Tea pot. Paul Barattini was bidding by phone on behalf of an Asian client she said “no matter where it starts go $6,000”and in an instant the bid was already over $10,000. “ That’s OK” came a voice in choppy English “we’ll get the next one”! Last of the Fort White collection was a White Jade Ship. Well not actually, it’s only 9 inches long joked the auctioneer. Then came a hard silence followed by an explanation from the auctioneer that the internet was slugging it out and we will have our turn after them. After four Minutes of nail biting silence came an opening bid of $28,000. A resounding awe from the crowd then a yell of $30,000 from the back of the room, rising to $40,000 within seconds. Paul Barattini with his ear pressed to the phone hears his client say “keep going” shaking her competitor loose at the $50,000 mark and landing the successful bid at $52,000. The Fort White Collection fetched over $106,000 to a worldwide market, not a local dealer.
