Special on-line programs help members track their personal health and provide specific reminders, referrals and information pertinent to each individual. As a member of H2U, you are also entitled to educational programs in non-clinical areas as well. Personal safety, legal issues, mental wellness, grief support, the use of herbs and herbal teas, how our natural water system works, history or “how it used to be” in farming, transportation. . . you name it --- we’ll find out about it. Curiosity won’t kill the cat. . .it’ll just makes ‘em smarter. Your $20 per year membership, or $35 for two in the same household, gives you access to other programs such as: Lunch Bunch! Each month, we gather at one of our area restaurants. That “area” includes places within a 50-60 mile radius, so there is a variety. Not only do we get some great food, we like to have fun! When you add in jokes, birthday and anniversary celebrations and door prizes, it’s a good day out. If you prefer home cooking, you’ll love our covered dish luncheons. We have some exceptional cooks.
If you’re interested in what’s going on around you, our day trips will fill the bill. Self-driving trips have included Jacksonville where we’ve visited the Jacksonville Zoo, Sally Industries, The Cummer Art Gallery and Gardens and a number of Jacksonville restaurants. Heading south, we’ve visited the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo, The Natural History Museum in Gainesville including the Butterfly Rainforest, the Harn Museum there, Dudley Farm, Morningside Farm, The Retirement Home for Horses, The Caspian Horse Farm, Kanapaha Gardens and more. We’ve also taken trips to Florida Ravine Gardens in Palatka, The Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, the Appleton Museum in Ocala, Cross Creek, hiking Payne’s Prairie - the list goes on and on. In September, we’ll be back kayaking the Ichetucknee River. When we climb on a motor coach, it may be a single day trip to Lakeland to see Carl Hurley, Orlando for the Holy Land Experience, Wakulla Springs outside Tallahassee to dine at the Lodge, or it may be a 15 day trip to the National Parks out west or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. But we don’t have to leave town to have a good time. Crafters have opportunity to share their time and talents by making favors, gifts or specialty items which are given to the Christmas Dream Machine, a Hospice ministry, Newborns in Need, LCMC Cardiovascular Lab patients, active duty military serving overseas, and holiday favors for Lake City Medical Center patients. We also host Bingo, Cards & Boards, films, picnics and parties at the H2U offices located at 334 Southwest Commerce Drive in Lake City. When you take such varied programming and wrap it up with a group of caring, joyful people, it’s a bargain at any price. Here are some comments from some of our members.

ANIMAL SAFETY Don’t leave your animal in your vehicle even for “just a minute.” Countless dogs and other animals die from heatstroke after being left in a vehicle - and these tragic deaths are entirely preventable. The Humane Society of the United States reminds people never to leave a dog, or other animal in a parked car. The temperature inside a vehicle can rise to a dangerously hot temperature within minutes even with the windows part way down. On an 85 degree day, the temperature inside a vehicle with the windows part way down can reach 102 degrees within ten minutes. In 30 minutes, the temperature can be 120 degrees. Animals can also suffer heatstroke and scorched paws from the hot metal in the back of truck beds, and from hot asphalt. A conviction of animal cruelty can result in a sentence of a $10,000 fine and up to six months in jail. It is in everyone’s best interest, especially the animal’s, to leave your animals at home protected from the heat.
