Rosary

Each year on the last day before Christmas break we take time to pray together as a community before we dismiss for the holiday. On December 21st the LCHS community gathered to pray the The Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary. The Joyful Mysteries were a perfect fit for this last prayer together for the year.

Divine Mercy Chaplet

Each day at 3:15 the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed in our Chapel. Faculty, staff and students are invited to join us in the powerful prayer.

News for You...

Welcome to Lancaster Catholic High School Campus Ministry’s newest resource, Campus Ministry News. With so much happening on a daily and weekly basis with the Campus Ministry program we felt it was important to provide you, with another avenue of communication. It is our goal to continue to enhance our partnership in the challenging mission we share to engage young people, working with you and their families in the formation of young people who “believe, lead and achieve.” As we prepare to wrap up the first semester of this school year the new ministry team has been working hard to continue the good work we have been in engaged in for more than a decade, as we look to new ways to support our students and staff. It is my goal to keep you informed of the spiritual activities, retreats and initiatives in which Campus Ministry is engaged. This publication being one avenue to help in that mission. Please know we encourage you to call or email us with any questions or suggestions you may have. I pray as we start this new year your families, ministries and parishes are blessed and you are filled with a sense of peace and encouragement for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Adore! Retreat

This year we introduced a new retreat option for Advent. Our Adore! Retreat was an all night adoration lock-in-style retreat held right in CampMin our Campus Ministry space on December 14-15. Sixteen students spent the night praying before the Blessed Sacrament. Along with silent prayer the participants celebrated Mass in our chapel to begin the night of prayer and praise. They also spent time singing praise and worship, praying the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy and taking part in great discussions on Love, our theme for the year, lead by the adult team members that included Fr. Arena our Chaplain and Emma Lawson, Director of Youth Ministry at St. John Neumann parish who also lead the music ministry. Students left tired but filled with a better understanding of what love is and a new appreciation for the beauty and value of Adoration.

Adoration

Over the last five years we have had the Blessing of hosting Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament each Friday from 8AM to 3:15 when we recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and then repose. This amazing opportunity is made possible by a small but dedicated group of parents and alumni who cover each hour of the day. This gives students and faculty and often time classes a chance to come to the chapel for a short time of prayer. The Adoration team offers intercessory prayers of support for the students and faculty. We invite any of our ministry partners to join us on a Friday for prayer. We could use a few new Adorers so if you know any parishioners who might be willing to join this important mission they can contact the Campus Ministry staff for all the details on how to help out.

Pro-Life Day 1/18/19

We are exited to be able to send 80 students and staff members to the Annual March for Life held on January 18th in Washington DC. We are extremely grateful to St. John Neumann for there cooperation in helping to accommodate the largest group of students we have had in the last few years. While our group is in DC we will host Jannique Stewart a Pro-Life Speaker and Apologist from Life Training Institute.

Journey!

On January 20th a small group of students and faculty leave on a 3 day journey to Middle Earth. Journey is our resigned Lord of the Rings Retreat that we have offered over the last six years. We use the film (yes all 12 hours) to explore the Theological virtues of faith, hope and charity. The students will discuss these themes in the context of change and challenge, choices and there consequences and accepting and persevering in our vocations and through our missions that God calls us to.

Our newest initiative for the year is the introduction of the Campus Ministry Leadership Team. The team consists of three committees; Liturgy, Service and Fellowship. The task of each committee is to offer input to Campus Ministry on ways to improve our ministry. The Liturgy committee is discussion ways to be able to offer more opportunities for prayer as well as how to encourage better participation. The Service committee had been working offer help in the building with cleaning Campus Ministry and helping teachers clean their rooms. They have been a resource for other service needs in the building and community. During the last week of school before Christmas break they baked cookies and delivered them to neighbors who live near the school with a wish for a Merry Christmas from Lancaster Catholic. Finally the Fellowship committee has been planing and sponsoring guest speakers to come to Campus Ministry and give a short presentation and lead a discussion on a variety of topics.
