nominations are given in three categories: Professional Achievement, Service to Humanity and/or Service to Lancaster Catholic. The 2016 recipients are: Peter Barber ‘86 (Outstanding Professional Achievement), Brian McCaskey ‘86 (Outstanding Professional Achievement), Noelle Matta, CO, CRC, COT ‘97 (Service to Humanity) and

Edmund Wickenheiser ‘56 (Service to Humanity). Peter Barber and Brian McCaskey ‘86: Childhood friends turned business partners, Barber and McCaskey began their own start-up company in 1987 which transformed into Two Dudes Painting Company, a full-service professional painting company with clients all over South Central Pennsylvania. Over nearly 30 years, Pete and Brian have grown their company from a way to pay for college into a well-respected community business. Two Dudes has been honored by various organizations, the 2009 Ethics in Business Award and the 2014 John R. Mott Servant Leader Award for demonstrating support for others and a commitment to the community while modeling the value of servant leadership, are among a few. On a personal level, Pete is currently the Chairman of the Board for the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry and is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Lancaster City Alliance. Brian was recently honored when the CYO named the Coach of the Year award

Noelle Matta, CO, CRC, COT ’97: Matta is an orthoptist specializing in pediatric diagnosis and non-surgical treatment at Conestoga Eye Care in Lancaster, PA, however her servant’s touch extends into other nations through her numerous mission trips to Honduras and Ecuador. In just one of these trips, Noelle was able to examine and treat nearly 500 patients; this kind of far-extending reach is what inspired her, and her colleague Dr. Silbert, to launch the Kindersee Program at George Washington Elementary School. Spring Magazine Preview

O

ur 2016 Spring Magazine is right around the corner. Make sure to check your mail the first week of May for the latest edition. We wanted to share a sneak preview with you so please enjoy this story on our Mock Trial Club written by Caitlin Paterson ‘16. Being a part of Mock Trial Team is more than just learning about the various aspects of the law. It is a group of students who have the desire to work hard and push themselves to give a professional presentation in front of real, respectable lawyers and judges, in a courtroom as any real lawyer would. By learning how to write persuasive and attentiongrabbing opening statements and unambiguous direct and cross examinations, members of the Mock Trial Team develop skills that they can use in any professional situation: how to work with a group, communicate, think on my feet, present effectively, and to have more self-confidence. To be a member of Mock Trial, you do not have to have aspirations of being a lawyer. It is a great opportunity for any student to learn the importance of always presenting oneself in a professional manner, to be

accountable, and the importance of hard work and dedication to a team. I transferred to Lancaster Catholic this year as a senior. This was an enormous and unexpected change in my life. At my old school, I had participated in every club and was the captain of the Varsity soccer team, but here, I felt like nobody knew me. When I joined the Mock Trial Team I was nervous, but I quickly made friends. I realized that the other students on the team were very much like me. They were hard workers and good leaders that understood how important it was to participate in activities like this, even if you were anxious, and I made great friends on the team. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to be one of the attorneys for the team and to transfer to Catholic where I have grown into a much stronger young woman. Catholic Highlights | 9

Plus, a special section about the school will help you reminisce as you read about our past and learn what’s in store for the future. To make sure our data is as up-todate as possible, our provider, Harris Connect, will begin contacting you by email and/or regular mail or by phone in March to verify that the information we will print is accurate and complete.
