Faculty Appreciation As we continue to experience these unprecedented circumstances, we have made the decision to transition the auction portion of our upcoming 6th Annual Purple & Gold Gala to an online format. Those of you who have experienced our Flexible Instructional Teaching, are aware that our teachers were ready to continue with online instruction without missing a day. They have been available for questions and assistance well beyond the hours of a normal school day and continue to demonstrate their dedication and commitment daily to our LCHS students. As we proceed with our “Virtual Gala”, available to everyone to participate in, we would like to dedicate a section of items specifically for you to show your appreciation to the Faculty and Staff. So far, we have 4 auction items which will purchased and designated by the “winner” to be given to a deserving Faculty or Staff member of their choosing. We would like to add a few more “appreciation items”and this is where we need your help! If you are in a service industry, and could provide a service to be donated to a faculty member, for example, a hairstylist, manicurist, massage therapist, even a mechanic who would be willing to donate a free service. We have two parents who are going to cook a 4-course meal for a teacher or staff member. Perhaps a group of students would like to join forces to show their appreciation, for example , we have a group of 7 or more sophomore boys who are donating their time to do a day of yard work for a deserving teacher or staff member. Another recent graduate is donating a few hours of free babysitting. Perhaps you like to bake and would like to provide baked goods, or house cleaning. Or maybe you would like to support local restaurants and purchase gift cards to be donated to the cause! We would like to have these items donated by April 20th in order to complete the online auction website. Please call Lori Wagner at 717-419-6208 or email to lwagner@lchsyes.org with any items or questions. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. LCHS Advancement

Attendance Update Due to the COVID 19 virus, ALL absences (if your child/student will miss the ENTIRE instructional day) should be reported to Mrs Fritz at kfritz@lchsyes.org. This is NOT the protocol for a normal school day, however, with virtual learning/ online classes it will provide us with a better means of keeping track of attendance.
Math Tutoring Need some math help? Mr. Longenecker (ned.longenecker@gmail.com) and Mr. Dan Fritsch 717-394-5455 via telephone, 717-305-0095 for FaceTime and Danfsr@yahoo.com are ready and willing to help.
A Green City Before Lancaster Catholic shifted to virtual learning, the Environmental Science class was in the progress of creating “Green Cities.” This project required the students to design a city, build a 3-D model of the city, come up with ways to make their city unique and eco-friendly, and on top of that present to a “board of directors” (aka teachers who have free periods that class) for the prize of BEST GREEN CITY. When schools closed, Ms. Lowry got creative to figure out how the projects could still be finished, but also keep the integrity of the project- taking into account how much work they had already done. With some slight modifications, students being incredibly flexible and awesome, the projects got completed! We hope you enjoy this example of a “Green City”!
AP Test Update As many of you know, the AP exams will now be sent electronically to students. All exams will be held from May 11, 2020 through May 22, 2020. All students should visit the collegeboard.org website daily to find videos for exam preparation and to make sure that their email address is updated with College Board. A schedule of exams will be posted on the LCHS website as well as in upcoming Crusader Connections. If students no longer wish to take their AP exams, refunds may be requested at www.Totalregistration.net. Students are encouraged to do this as soon as possible so tests will not be sent to them.
SAT Update College Board has cancelled all SATs that would have been administered in May and June. Although they are planning to offer SATs beginning in August, please do not try to register for an exam at this time. Lancaster Catholic High School is committed to serving our student population in any way we can and we have volunteered to open a testing center at the High School in August and/or September. Many colleges and universities have now decided to change their admissions processes to “test optional” please check the websites of the colleges that interest you to ascertain their admissions policies.
A Message for Seniors Miss Grasa will be sending out a survey regarding final transcripts and scholarship information. We will need 100% participation so please complete this as soon as possible! Need to talk to your School Counselor? Please don’t hesitate to send an email and we will meet with you one-on-one on Google hangouts/meet. We are here to help!
Self-Care Hallmarks during the COVID-19 In a time of crisis, there are proven steps that can help us work through the uncertainties and distress we are experiencing as provided by WellSpan Employee and Family Resources: • Acknowledge and verbalize when you are stressed. Research has shown that talking about your concerns helps remove them and is far better than trying to ignore, deny, or suppress the natural feelings we all share. No matter who you are, the common denominator is that we are all human, and we will feel heightened stress during this time. Acknowledging it opens the gate for us to do something about it. • Rely on a few trusted resources for information. Think: CDC, the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Limit searches on Google. • But limit your exposure to information. Over-consumption of social media, national media and local media coverage of COVID-19 can consume you and create depleted energy and even more distress. • Stay connected with others. You may have to work harder at this as you adhere to the Pennsylvania Department of Health restrictions and social distancing, but this one is huge. Virtual interactions count! • Take care of your own basic needs. You need fuel for the mind and body. Eat nutritious food, hydrate and try to get enough sleep. • Keep up your daily routine as much as you can. Routine is key – whether your usual one or a new one you create! Routine helps you maintain a sense of normalcy that can dramatically reduce stress. It might require some creative thinking, but this is vital for you in your work and for your family at home. • Take breaks, breathe, slow down with intention, and set limits. We must remember to step away from our work. Take time out even if it’s for a minute or two. To slow down, and be present, will help slow what may seem like a chaotic, stressful experience. • Do some physical movement. Move, stand up and be active, and exercise in whatever way you can, even in small increments. Get outside and take a walk, get some fresh air, look at the clouds, breathe deeply. • Focus on what you can control. Be present and in the moment. Avoid the “What ifs.” Psychologists call this catastrophizing or running worst-case scenarios in our heads. This behavior will only create more distress. • Laugh! Watch a funny movie, YouTube video or anything that tickles your funny bone. Laughter is good food for the soul. Laughter is an essential part of the coping equation during an emotionally charged time.
