Summer Reading = Free Candy! Are you over The Portrait of Dorian Gray? Never want to read another book about talking bunnies (Watership Down)? Need to share responsibility for My Antonia with someone? Or want to say A Farewell to Arms? The Library will accept all of your completed summer reading books, and give you a piece of candy for each book you donate! Parents, feel free to donate any classic book to the Library—clean out your own college holdouts! Please send your books in with your students, or let the Librarian, Mrs. Lopez (mlopez@lchsyes.org), know when you would like to bring them in, and she will meet you at the school door. All of these books will then be made available to students who would like them for their own summer reading. Any book will be accepted—if the LCHS library cannot use it, the books with be shared with local public libraries. These can be The Things They Carried right out of your house until And Then There Were None! Thank you for sharing!

A Message from Lancaster Catholic High School COVID Response Coordinator: Leslie Aikens We have recently seen a rise in COVID-19 cases in Lancaster County, and our public health officials are concerned about the upcoming winter months, with increases anticipated in both the flu and COVID-19. The fear is that we will see cases rise due to people spending more time indoors, getting tired of the public health measures, traveling for the holidays and receiving mixed messages from national and local leaders. We need to stay vigilant with our public health practices, such as wearing masks, social distancing, and regular hand washing. Please avoid social gatherings in homes, and if you are sick, stay away from others to avoid spread. If you are planning to travel, please notify the school and check the travel advisory on the PA Department of Health website, for the most current directions. Please understand that the Diocese of Harrisburg expects its schools to treat these travel restriction recommendations as requirements. COVID-19 is not showing signs of going away, and with the winter months coming, we may see an increase in the number of cases. LCHS is working hard to keep our students and staff safe and healthy, and it takes all of us working together to make that happen.

Save the Date: November 12th Join Lancaster Catholic High School on November 12th at 10 AM for a very exciting and historic announcement. The announcement will be made over livestream for all to view. Stay tuned for more details!

School Counseling Corner Senior Parents Be on the lookout for scams when it comes to scholarship opportunities and FAFSA completion websites. The only websites you should be accessing are: FAFSA.gov or PHEAA.org please don’t click on any websites related to financial aid with a .com address. Start your engines as the FAFSA financial process is almost ready to begin! Our contact at the state level, Sonya McFarland (smannmcf@pheaa.org), has been a fantastic resource and has provided a brief tutorial on getting started with a simple first step: your FSA ID. Click here! College Visits Most colleges and universities are offering virtual visits for seniors and juniors. Students all have Naviance Accounts and they may sign up for virtual visits with college admissions representatives only through Naviance. The School Counselors will send a pass to the student through email with a link to attend the visit. Unfortunately, students will not be able to sign up on the day of the visit so they are expected to view the list of colleges in Naviance and make their plans early. Eligibility Begins Parents and students are strongly encouraged to keep checking student’s grades on Rediker. Friday morning eligibility is run and any students who are not passing 4 full credits will not be eligible to participate in sports, clubs and activities. Math Help We are pleased to offer students math assistance again this year from Mr. Longenecker. Mr. “L” is a retired teacher from Lancaster Catholic and has helped many students with their math concerns. Mr. “L” reached at ned.longenecker@gmail.com for virtual or in- person assistance.

Campus Ministry Opportunities Campus Ministry continues to provide opportunities for prayer and spiritual development to our students and staff. Over the last five years CampMin has hosted Adoration each Friday from 8AM to 3PM with the help of our volunteer Adoration team. Two years ago, they added a daily Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3:20 each day and last year began a daily Rosary each morning at 7:20 AM. Beginning this month, they are hosting a Holy Hour Monday through Thursday from 7 AM to 8 AM. Staff and students can stop in for a short prayer before they get busy with their day. Daily Rosary is said before the blessed sacrament as the Campus Ministry department prays for students, teachers and our community. Mass is held each Tuesday in the chapel during our First Crusader Period. Moving forward, Campus Ministry will be adding weekday Mass on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as well. Finally, they are working on the technical issues with going live with our rosary and masses from the Chapel so families and alumni can join us.
