Four Seniors Received National Merit Recognition 1.6 million students took the PSAT last fall but only 50,000 students have received recognition for their hard work.
Anna Peris, Catherine Lopez, Sebastian Klemmer and Johann Imperial have been commended for their scores on the PSAT test in recognition of their Wednesday, October 10th: outstanding academic promise.
Spirit Week Senior English Trip to DC PSATs Freshman Retreat
Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National MeritÂŽ Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
Attention Class of 2020 students with an interest in health care careers: Lancaster General Hospital (LGH) is currently accepting applicants for the 2019 Winter Student Program. The program allows students to experience first-hand the day-to-day activities in a professional healthcare setting. The students are given the opportunity to work side by side with LGH clinical staff members who will mentor them throughout the program. Upon completion of the program (50 hours) the student is eligible for a $500 scholarship to the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences for a major clinical program. Applications will be accepted from September 21st to October 5th. If students would like to apply for the high school program, they should log onto www.LancasterGeneralHealth.org to obtain instructions and download the application from the student volunteer page. Spirit Week Schedule Monday, October 8th
Faculty In-Service: No School The Pennsylvania Catholic Colleges will be visiting Lancaster Catholic High School on Thursday, October 4, 2018. More than 30 colleges will be represented to offer your junior or senior students admissions information. Parents are welcome to attend, although the fair is only offered from 8:20 a.m.-9:20 a.m. We encourage any student attending to have questions ready for the many admissions counselors who will be present on the 4th.

Barbara Hough Roda, the Community Liaison and former Executive Editor of the Lancaster Newspaper spoke with Lancaster Catholic’s Broadcasting class about the importance of a free press, reporting in a divisive political climate and fake news.
Field Day - Modified Schedule with Activities at Crusader Stadium. - Students must bring cash to buy lunch on Field Day. Student lunch accounts will not be able to be accessed. - Food Trucks will be selling food for lunch at the Stadium. Homecoming Football Game (Catholic High vs Northern Lebanon at 7 PM. Homecoming Court
Lancaster Catholic’s Homecoming Court is composed of eleven senior ladies who were voted onto the Court by their fellow senior classmates. Homecoming Information The theme for the dance is “Around the World.” Tickets are now on sale during lunches until Oct. 11th. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are $14.
Lancaster Catholic Homecoming Dance The LCHS Homecoming Dance is Saturday, October 13th. In the interest of student safety, please be advised that Catholic High will be administering random breathalyzer tests to students as they enter the dance. Any bags brought into the dance will be kept in a secure and locked area and are also subject to search. Dance begins at 7:00PM and ends at 10:00PM. No student will be admitted after 9:00. Any student wishing to leave before the end of the dance may sign out, and will NOT be re-admitted.
Dance Attire Ladies are expected to dress in a manner appropriate for the occasion, and reflective of the modesty expected of Christian women. Specifically listed below are dresses that are NOT acceptable. o No exposed tattoos o No appearance of exposed flesh (nude or mesh material) in inappropriate areas o No plunging backs, necklines, or overexposed backs o Length of dress must meet the fingertips o No excessive cleavage o No bare mid-drifts (no two-piece dresses) Men are expected to dress in a manner appropriate for the occasion. Seniors to Washington, DC As an extension of their literature study, seniors from Lancaster Catholic will be spending the day in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, October 10th. One group will begin at the Holocaust Museum and move on to Arlington National Cemetery for the afternoon. Students that studied literature from several wars will tour the Smithsonian Museum of American History, visit the Vietnam War Memorial, and end at the cemetery. We pray that this day will prove a moving and memorable experience for all.
Freshman Retreat
The Freshman retreat will take place on Wednesday, October 10th and is designed to welcome our new class to the LCHS family and to begin to build class unity and is held in the fall on a regular school day. The day starts with a Mass. Students will work on team building activities, and discuss why it’s important to be an active part of the school.
PSATs will be held at LCHS on Wednesday, October 10th for any interested sophomore or junior.

Mum Fundraiser Garden Club will be selling Mums again as part of our fall fundraiser. Mums are $10. They come in 9 inch pots and are available in red, yellow, white, purple, and orange. The due date for forms is Oct 1. Delivery date from Stauffers has yet to be determined. Click here to order your fall mums!
Dig Pink The LCHS girls volleyball team is hosting a Dig Pink game, October 9th to raise funds for the Side Out Foundation, an organization that raises funds and awareness for breast cancer. The October 9th game will be a PINK OUT, we are asking all fans to wear pink to the game. In addition, we will have a bake sale to raise money for the Side-Out Foundation. Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our team will also wear our Dig Pink uniforms October 4th and 17th (home games) to raise awareness. Baked goods will also be available during those home games.
Phonathon Volunteers Needed Phonathon is in need of volunteers for the following dates: October 14-16 October 21-23 Phonathon begins at 5:30 PM with calls being made from 6-8:30 PM. Referral Program Our Referral Program is meant to thank families who have added new members to the Crusader family. For each new family that enrolls, the referring family will receive a $500 discount on tuition for the 2018-2019 school year, applied at the end of the 2nd marking period. On Sunday, December 9, 2018, we will depart Lancaster Catholic High School at 7 a.m. sharp!
We will be dropped off at the rear of the Winter Garden Theater which is a prime location to enjoy shopping, the theater district, the museums, and Time Square. NYC will be abuzz with Christmas decorations and good cheer.
Bus picks up at the same location at 7 p.m. for an approximate return to Lancaster Catholic High School at 10 p.m.

Volunteer Upcoming Opportunities Athletics If you are a parent of a Crusader Athlete, remember that a minimum of 10 hours of service to the Athletic Department is required to help off-set costs of hosting sporting events. By volunteering, the Athletic Department does not need to pay someone to be a clock keeper, sell tickets or work concessions.
