The St. John Paul II Excellence in Leadership Award

Mrs. Mary Anne (Fix) Aichele ‘48 Mary Anne Fix Aichele graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1948. During her four years of high school she participated in many activities.

But, the most important outcome of her years at LCHS was a deepening of her Catholic faith. That faith has dominated her adult life. She has always stated the importance of three things in her life; FIRST, God, her husband second, and her children were third.

The 2020 St. John Paul II Excellence in Leadership Award Winner

Mary Anne is proud to be an alumnus of Lancaster Catholic High School. Her commitment to a Catholic school education was a driving force in seeing her five children graduate from Sacred Heart School and Lancaster Catholic High School. She is especially proud that each of her 15 grandchildren have attended Catholic schools. All who lived in Lancaster were the third generation in our family to attend LCHS.

Mrs. Catherine (Emig) Schreder ‘50 Catherine Mary Emig Schreder graduated from Lancaster Catholic in 1950. She married John Schreder, Class of ‘44, and had four children, Donna ‘73, Ken ‘74, Maribeth ‘77 and Michael ‘83.

Her grandchildren have also attended Lancaster Catholic High School.

Megan class of ‘08, Ryan class of ‘10, Annaliese class of ‘16, Helena class of ‘18, Amanda class of ‘12, Emily class of ‘14, Andrew class of ‘10, Matthew class of ‘12 and Christopher class of ‘14.

The St. John Paul II Excellence in Leadership Award

Mr. Donald Nikolaus ‘60 After graduating from LCHS in 1960, Donald earned an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Villanova University. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the Villanova Law School.

The 2020 St. John Paul II Excellence in Leadership Award Winner The Saint John Paul II Excellence in Leadership Award is bestowed upon an individual who reflects the spirit and dedication of our Most Blessed Pope, as demonstrated through a personal embodiment of the faith and mission of Lancaster Catholic.

In 1972 Don and LCHS Villanova classmate Jack Hohenadel ‘60 opened Nikolaus & Hohenadel LLP. For 37 years, Donald served as President & CEO of Donegal Insurance Group, which includes both the Donegal Mutual Insurance Company and the insurance subsidiaries of Donegal Group, Inc. Donald built up his company up from dealing primarily with auto and home insurance within the state of Pennsylvania into a national player.

The company has been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the top 100 most trustworthy companies.

Donald led an affordable-housing initiative in Columbia called the Columbia Catholic Housing for the Elderly, which built both St. Peter’s Apartments and the Trinity House. The additional need for affordable housing gave rise to the Housing Development Corporation MidAtlantic, for which Donald served as Director for years. Donald has also served on the Board of Directors at Saint Anne’s Retirement Community (Columbia, PA) for over 30 years and as the ViceChairman of the Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania.

Donald currently serves as the chairman of both Donegal Mutual Insurance Company and Donegal Group.

Thank you for participating in our 2020 Virtual Gala & Silent Auction. If you are familiar with our Gala Raffle Baskets that we have been running online for the last three years, you will be right at home with this new process, as we are using the same company. If you aren’t here’s a brief rundown of how it works.

To visit the Virtual Gala, click on the link on our website, beginning April 24. You will see over 75 items up for bid this year, and each item will have a three-letter code.

To bid, on the item, create an account with the company that will include your email address, phone number and credit card. This is a secure site and you will not receive emails or texts unless you either win a bid or are outbid on an item and would like to up your bid.

When the event is complete, all winners will be notified via email and at that point, your card will be charged.
