A Message from the Attendance Office Personal responsibility is one of the foundational aspects of preparing our students for life after high school. With that being said, one of the prime responsibilities of our students is to BE ON TIME for school. Whenever a student is late for school, they must fill out an admission slip which are located in the attendance office. The student is to report immediately to the Attendance Office upon arriving late for school. If no one is in the Attendance Office please see someone in the Main Office. Lateness due to a professional appointment (doctor, dentist, therapist, etc.) will be excused as long as documentation is provided. Anyone arriving after 9 AM without a doctor’s note or professional note will NOT be permitted to participate in any after school events, practices or games that day.

LCHS Earns Cardinal Newman Society Status Lancaster Catholic High School was recognized as a Catholic Education Honor Roll School by the Cardinal Newman Society on Monday. LCHS was one of just three high schools in Pennsylvania to earn the honor. “It is great affirmation for Lancaster Catholic to be recognized by the Catholic Education Honor Roll,” Lancaster Catholic’s president Tim Hamer remarked. “This distinction confirms our commitment to the mission of Catholic education. I applaud the leadership, administration, students, parents, teachers, and staff for their hard work in assuring a strong Catholic identity permeates all that we do in preparing our students to be future leaders in both society and the Church.” Lancaster Catholic engaged in a thorough internal and external review of its comprehensive program offerings before being awarded this status. It has received specific recognition for its strong integration of Catholic identity throughout its efforts, including the integrity of its mission, and the strength of its community and rich spiritual live. The Honor Roll also recognized the school’s efforts at integral formation of the minds, bodies, and spirits of its students as well as its comprehensive academic program which seeks to instill a Christian vision of the world and human wisdom and culture. “The Honor Roll is a helpful tool for families and benefactors in recognizing the quality of a Catholic high school,” said Patrick J. Reilly, president of The Cardinal Newman Society. “It is external validation that a school is both focused and successful in meeting the high calling of Catholic schools to serve the well-being and salvation of students and to serve the common good. We are very pleased to have Lancaster Catholic join in the nationally recognized ranks of excellence; this is a select group. The school has well demonstrated they are successful in meeting the key principles that guide Catholic education.” The Cardinal Newman Society has recognized over 300 high-performing Catholic high schools nationwide since the program’s inception in 2004.
Fall Blood Drive Did you know that a premature newborn may need 1-4 units of red blood cells while in ICU, or an automobile accident victim may need 4-40 units? You can save lives by being a donor at our annual “fall blood drive. It is a safe and easy process which takes approximately 45 minutes. The drive will be held Tuesday, November 5 from 8:00 to 2:00 in the Old Gym. The Blood Drive is sponsored by our Future Medical Leaders of America Club and Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank. Anyone age 16 or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good health on the day of the drive may donate. Pennsylvania law requires a parent consent form for students who are 16 years old. Permission forms are available in the Library and must be returned by Friday, November 1. Unfortunately, International students may not donate since they have not been in the U.S. for 1 complete year. All donors must present a photo ID at the time of donation. Beginning Tuesday, October 22 sign-up sheets for donating will be available in the Library. Please encourage your son or daughter to donate. If you would like to donate please email Miss Susan Martin at smatin@lchsyes.org with your preferred time.

He is a six-time Pushcart Prize nominee and his poem “If Mamie Till Was the Mother of God” won the 2012 Pratt Library/Little Patuxent Review Poetry Prize. He will share his own poems and discuss the craft of writing, “When readers explore my work, I hope they discover three main traits; I hope they find poems that say something, use surprising language, and are moving. To me, these are the marks of a strong poem. I teach these three traits to my students and they seem to help them make meaningful poems.” The poet will also teach a Master Class open to the first 15 students who submit a poem on a subject that Ross has addressed in his own work. These students will share their poems with him over a lunchtime celebration. This free, artist-in-residence style event will be presented on Thursday, November 7, in Old Main Gym. 2019 DIOCESE OF HARRISBURG ANNUAL CATECHETICAL CONFERENCE NOVEMBER 9, 2019
Making Disciples for Jesus and His Church DEADLINE TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5 - PAPER/ONLINE REGISTRATION REGISTRATION INFORMATION COST $35.00 per person (includes continental breakfast and lunch) We respectfully request that each parish/school pay the registration fee for those catechists, teachers, etc., who will be attending from their parish catechetical programs and/or Catholic schools. Although we will do our best to place everyone into the workshops that they choose, we reserve the right, due to space limitations, to move registrants into alternate workshops if workshops become full. We have been at or near capacity attendance for at least the last 15 years of this conference! We anticipate having another large crowd for this year’s conference! For this reason, we can only guarantee admittance to the first 400 persons who register for the conference. Therefore, please register either online or via paper registration as soon as possible! There will be no refunds for “no-shows.” Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
WORKSHOPS/FOOD/SCHEDULE The day will include the celebration of Mass, the Keynote Address, and four workshop sessions. List the names of those attending the conference from your parish/school and specify which three or four workshops each person will be attending (indicate by number, e.g. A1). We suggest that conference participants choose one of the first three workshop sessions in which to eat lunch. A variety of box lunches such as roast beef, ham, turkey, vegetarian and gluten-free will be provided for registrants. Lunch is available during workshop sessions A, B, and C only. NOTE: If you would like to attend all four workshops, you may still get a box lunch, but you will need to eat it between sessions in the Diocesan Center Dining Room, as no food is permitted inside the classrooms. (Bottled water may be brought into the workshops).
Participants will be awarded five hours of elective credit toward catechist certification.
