What is Vale People First • Vale People First is a Disability Rights organisation for people with a learning disability led by people with a learning disability. • We provide a wide range of services for people with a learning disability in the Vale of Glamorgan. • We support people with learning disabilities to speak up and be in charge of their lives.
• We want to help people with learning disabilities participate in a fun friendly accessible group. Our groups tackle discrimination and fight for their rights in society. • We make films, talk about our lives, go on trips, work to change policies and talk to other people in their community. • We want to make a difference
Youth in Action Programme •
Between 2007 – 2013 we participated in the ‘Youth in Action’ Programme. Funded by the EU it’s five actions aimed to inspire active citizens, solidarity, and tolerance among young Europeans, as well as involve them in shaping the future of the European Union.
•
We took part in Action 3: Youth in the World, promoting partnerships and exchanges among young people and youth organisations.
Seminar 2010 • In 2010 Ros and a member of Vale people First, Lindsay attended a seminar in Poland with representatives from nine other European countries. • Each nation presented their organisations and ideas for future projects within the actions of the Youth in Action programme.
With over twenty people attending, Lindsay was the only person with a learning disability representing her nation. Lindsay mixed well with everyone, contibuted with great ideas, and represented Wales with enthusiasm and confidence. One of her suggestions was a project run by specialists showing how to use recyclable materials to build simple housing for poorer people in Eastern Europe and to make goods to sell to raise an income.
