My Rights – My Voice Two things that the Project will do People with learning disabilities will learn how to be trainers on their rights Then they will train professionals about OUR RIGHTS

• We learnt all about the rights that people with a learning disability have

• Now we will tell professionals in Wales about what rights we have
U.N Convention Today we want you know three things
• Wales has signed the U.N. Convention • Article 22 is about Privacy • Article 23 is about Home and Family
What does U.N. stand for? • United Nations • Started on 24th October 1945 • Originally 51 countries • Came together to work for peace
What is a Convention? • It is a meeting of the representatives of all the countries • A written agreement about some thing
• Rights of People with Disabilities
U.N. Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities • U.K signed the Convention in 2007 • And ratified it in 2009
• Ratified means that they agreed to make it happen……. • There are 50 articles
• We want to tell you about 2 • Article 22 The Right to Privacy • Article 23 The Right to Home and Family
Article 22 The Right to Privacy No one should see or touch your body unless you want them to
Article 22 No one should stop you having personal and sexual relationships
Article 22 Information about you will be kept private and confidential
Article 22 You don’t have to tell people about your disability
Article 23 You have a right to marry and start a family
Article 23 You have a right to look after your child and not have them taken away from you just because you have a disability
