Kitsap Bank offers business ‘edg3’ Seeing the importance small businesses have on local economic development, Kitsap Bank has launched a small business competition which aims to be an innovative way for small businesses to gain visibility, while competing for a much-needed cash infusion. “The majority of businesses start out using their personal funds, whether it’s leveraging their house, or borrowing 30, 40, 50 thousand dollars against credit cards,” comments Dominic Svornich, Branch Manager of Kitsap Bank’s Port Townsend Branch. “That’s how most businesses start.” Called “edg3 FUND™,” the competition is awarding a $20,000 cash prize to a small for-profit business based in Western Washington that is having a positive impact on the community in at least one of 3 ways: economically, socially, or environmentally. These three traits are represented by the numeral that looks like a backward “E” in “edg3,” rhyming with hedge fund intentionally. “edg3 FUND’s™ mission is to provide funding for entrepreneurs dedicated to growing our community economically, socially, or environmentally,” stated Tony George, Kitsap Bank President and Chief Operating Officer. “As a family-owned community bank, we understand the unique challenges faced

After a serious car accident in 2005, she was diagnosed as “never going to be able to work again.” Instead of accepting the fate of a life in pain, she chose a path of selfhealing. “Hydrotherapy played an enormous role in my healing after the accident, and soaking became a way of life. I lived near a beautiful bathhouse in New Mexico, and I was basically soaking every day.” Soaking in salt water stimulates circulation, hydrates and detoxifies the skin, increases moisture retention, promotes cellular regeneration, reduces inflammation, relaxes the muscles and reduces pain. The health benefits of the sauna include cardiovascular conditioning, detoxification, relaxation, and stress relief. Wren is passionate about offering this space for heal-

ing and renewal. Soak offers locals rates, punch cards, and memberships to make soaking accessible to all. As one guest said upon leaving last night: “I think this is the most relaxed I’ve ever been in my life.” Soak on the Sound invites you to come indulge yourself. VIC volunteers go on the road

By Karen Anderson Port Townsend Visitor Center volunteers headed out on their monthly Familiarization Tours this month, taking in Manresa Castle, Vintage Hardware and Discovery Bay Golf Course. Manresa Castle is one of Port Townsend’s few hotels located outside of the National Historic District. It deserves note, however as one of the oldest homes in Port Townsend. Built in 1892 by Charles Eisenbeis, who later became Port Townsend’s first mayor, this private residence was the largest in Washington State until Bill Gates built his mansion outside of Seattle. It was named the Eisenbeis Castle because of its turret and ornate Prussian style. In 1927, the residence was sold to Jesuit priests who added on most of the rooms that are now the bulk of the hotel, an elevator and a chapel. The priests
