Integrity, community, commitment and service are at the heart of Kristin Manwaring Insurance and the firm’s team of professionals By Kristin Manwaring Jim and I moved from Seattle 16 years ago for a simpler life and like so many of us that end up in Port Townsend, we fell in love with the town and decided to make it home long term. We were fortunate to have jobs upon our arrival; however it was within a few years that we knew we would one day be business owners in Port Townsend as part of our future plan to stay here. Not only are we consulting with individuals and business owners today on the use of insurance for financial protection, insurance took on a real role in our own lives. Even though we both had jobs initially we set out to live

conservatively on one income. We have always had health insurance but decided to self insure in other areas. What do I mean by self insure? If the mortgage was not reliant on a second income then we felt there was no reason to be concerned about the ability to continue payments in the event of death or disability of the other. Life changed dramatically in 2006 when we purchased our business. It was at that time that we re-evaluated many aspects of our life. Due to the purchase of the business and our new debt obligations, we could no longer maintain a self insured lifestyle without a significant impact to one another. In reviewing the health of our financial future and the ability to continue with our goals no matter what life would bring, we began to insure in to protect what we are working so hard for today. Kristin and Jim Manwaring are the owners of Kristin Manwaring InWe now insure for both surance. The locally owned firm specializes in insurance that protects people and their businesses.

our business and for ourselves personally. Life insurance on the lives of Brent Shirley, as the seller, and on myself as the buyer, secures our business loan today in the event of death. This is commonly referred to as Buy-Sell life insurance. In addition, I carry disability

insurance. This too will allow for payments on the business to continue seamlessly in the event of disability and provide income replacement to our household. We also have personal life insurance for income replacement in the event of death. Long-term care insurContinued on Page 2
