”
BACK THAT BRASS UP!
Since 2016, LEAF has partnered with the Christine W. Avery Learning Center on Hill Street in Asheville where Teaching Artists have helped to sculpt beautiful young minds into empowered, collaborative and artistic leaders. After years of diving into West African drum and dance culture with Master Teaching Artist, Adama Dembele, the center is now buzzing with weekly Easel Rider, brass, percussion and hip-hop dance classes offering youth diverse opportunities to challenge and express themselves. Did you have a childhood experience that inspired you to become the person you are today? For the young musicians at Christine Avery, there is an opportunity coming this August on a journey to explore the deep musical roots and culture of New Orleans! Ways you can get involved today: • $1,000 makes this life-changing experience come to life for one student. Every donation matters! • Donate a trumpet, trombone or baritone to help the group build up their skills!
Welcome! SPRING VISITING TEACHING ARTISTS!
Twice a year, LEAF invites talented performing artists from around the globe that are deeply culturally-rooted, mission-oriented and also incredible teachers to lead a 3-5 day Visiting Teaching Artist Residency with students in and around Buncombe County.

"There is a lot of violence and crime around young people in Guatemala, the LEAF International programs provide a good alternative to being involved with gangs and other harmful activity." –LEAF International Guatemala Parent
BIENVENIDO GUATEMALA LEAF International Guatemala is an exemplary youth ensemble of Guatemala musical traditional and history. Led by teaching artists and students from the music program in El Tejar, Guatemala, these youth enjoy cultural exchanges by sharing a taste of rich & expansive instrumentation with youth all over the world. Their sultry instrumentation includes the marimba, violin, guitar, percussion, & keyboard. Paired with customary dances and storytelling, their stage performances will entice a crowd and their rhythmic tunes will make your body move!
See the world with leaf!

Empowering Culture Keepers, Cultivating Global Youth and Collaborating to Preserve Cultural Traditions in Bequia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Mexico, New Orleans, Rwanda & Tanzania.
LEAF INTERNATIONAL ONEMIC Unity Through Music This week, LEAF International ONEmic students from Tanzania & Haiti have been immersing themselves deep into the world of music production. The crew has been involved in intensive master classes, led by Dirtwire & Beats Antique’s, David Satori. These master classes are meant to teach future studio engineers’ valuable skills that they can bring home to share with their ONEmic communities and incorporate into the production of their own music. Catch our ONEmic crews around festival and on Mainstage with Dirtwire on Friday, May 11 at 8:15pm.
Did you know? 18 Culture Keepers
partner with LEAF in globally passing on and preserving their cultural traditions from one generation to the next. It has become increasingly difficult for LEAF International culture keepers & teaching artists to obtain visa approval for travels to the US and may have impacted this weekend's programming.

THANKS FOR BREAKING GROUND WITH LEAF! “They say the creation of a thousand forests lies in a single acorn. One word, one choice, one gesture no matter how seemingly small has the power to transform this world for the better. For the 48th LEAF Festival, we’ve scoured the globe to select artists who are architects of positive change using the strength & resilience of their creative expression to uplift our communities. Artists who defy expectation and value the importance of planting deep roots as much as reaching for the stars. As LEAF Community Arts approaches a new phase in its legacy with the creation of a year round Global Arts Center, we welcome one & all to gather and celebrate this new inspiring chapter in our journey together. Bring your hopes, your dreams, your families, and an open heart for an unforgettable world culture celebration.” ~ Ehren Cruz, LEAF Artistic Director

HANDCRAFTS & HEALING ARTS BOOTHS "When you buy something from an artist, you're buying more than an object. You’re buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation. You’re buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You’re not buying just one thing; you are buying a piece of a heart, a piece of a soul… a piece of someone else’s life. Most importantly, you’re buying the artist more time to do something they are passionate about." ~ Rebekah Joy Plett, Artist
