Key Club 101

What is Key Club (you may ask!)?  Key Club is an international student-led organization which gives its members opportunities to provide service for those in need, build character within themselves, and develop leader skills that can be used in the future! Who are WE?  We are the Superheroes of Division 48! We are caring and compassionate individuals that are improving our community! The core values are leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. Why Key Club?  No other organizations provide us with the opportunities that Key Club does. In Key Club, we better the lives of others around us, make friends, and grow as individuals. Key Club isn’t just a club; it is a family. You gain so many great memories; from service projects to DCON itself! Key Club is the best place to be. We love and support those around us!

EliMiNaTe Project

What is the Eliminate Project?  The ELIMINATE Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to internationally eliminate MNT. What is MNT?  MNT stands for maternal and neonatal tetanus that occurs with mothers and their newborn children. Newborns suffer severe convulsions and are sensitive to light and touch. MNT kills one baby every 11 minutes. It also kills mothers; this leads to little hope of survival. Who suffers from MNT and how can it be stopped?  MNT affects the poorest, the geographically hard to reach, and those who can’t afford health care. It is caused when spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. Just three doses of a 60 cent immunization can protect a mother and her future babies.

$1.80 can save a mother and her future children!

Dues!

Why Pay Dues?  Dues gets you your membership card, let’s you attend projects, and be able to go to Seattle for DCON.  Dues also provide you with Have Any Questions? the ability to fundraise for  Get in contact with our District an organization of your Treasurer, Suvir Copparam!! choice! o Copparam.suvir@gmail.com o (425)-445-6199

He’s a sweetie  The due date for dues has passed. Members can still pay, but if a club failed to gather fifteen paid members, they have been officially declared inactive. Unfortunately, we have a club in our division that this has occurred with. This means, they are no longer an official Key Club branch. With this, they no longer have any insurance backing coming from Key Club, and cannot come to DCON or other events.

LtG Election!

I have officially held my LtG election and I am happy to be passing down our division to the very capable hands of Sienna Sanchez. A club member and current president at the Coeur’ d Alene High School Key Club, one of the strongest clubs in our division. She is a very friendly and professional girl, and I am proud to pass on our division to her. I can’t wait to see what she does to better our division.

For anyone considering possibly running for the position in the future, I highly suggest you continue to talk to Sienna throughout her term. She will be able to give you a first hand account of what it is like while it is happening. The position of Lieutenant Governor is definitely a very important position. It is stressful at times, but it is also a life changing experience. You will have a chance to train your public speaking and management skills, as well as, make lifelong bonds. It truly is a life altering experience.

DCON!

DCON is a wonderful event, and its truly a wonderful experience. It is a trip that not many can say that they’ve taken. In fact, I would even go as far as saying, outside of Key Club, there aren’t any events quite like it anywhere. With that being said, there are a few rules that need to be followed while you are in Seattle. Mainly for your safety, but none the less they must be followed:  Always be where you are expected to be, according to your schedule.  Keep in contact with your chaperone.  Always be kind and respectful toward everyone.  Make sure to be a productive member of the forums you choose to attend  Never leave the event center without permission and/or an adult escort  Always be in your room for, as well as after, curfew  Make sure to do your best to enjoy all aspects of DCON (especially the Service Fair!) While there are rules that you must follow throughout your time there, you will still have the opportunity to have a wonderful and unforgettable time at your trip to DCON!
