Key Club 101
What is Key Club (you may ask!)? Key Club is an international student-led organization which gives its members opportunities to provide service for those in need, build character within themselves, and develop leader skills that can be used in the future! Who are WE? We are the Superheroes of Division 48! We are caring and compassionate individuals that are improving our community! The core values are leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. Why Key Club? No other organizations provide us with the opportunities that Key Club does. In Key Club, we better the lives of others around us, make friends, and grow as individuals. Key Club isn’t just a club; it is a family. You gain so many great memories; from service projects to DCON itself! Key Club is the best place to be. We love and support those around us!
EliMiNaTe Project
What is the Eliminate Project? The ELIMINATE Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to internationally eliminate MNT. What is MNT? MNT stands for maternal and neonatal tetanus that occurs with mothers and their newborn children. Newborns suffer severe convulsions and are sensitive to light and touch. MNT kills one baby every 11 minutes. It also kills mothers; this leads to little hope of survival. Who suffers from MNT and how can it be stopped? MNT affects the poorest, the geographically hard to reach, and those who can’t afford health care. It is caused when spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. Just three doses of a 60 cent immunization can protect a mother and her future babies.
$1.80 can save a mother and her future children!
Dues!
Why Pay Dues? Dues gets you your membership card, let’s you attend projects, and be able to go to Seattle for DCON. Dues also provide you with the ability to fundraise for an organization of your choice! Have Any Questions? Suvir has made an exception on the due date this year, due to problems with the Membership Update Center. Dues must get their payment in as soon as possible. If any more problems occur, you can contact memberservices@kiwanis.org.
LtG Elections
As I stated in my previous newsletter, my term is quickly coming to a close. One of my final jobs is to elect the incoming Lieutenant Governor of Division 48. I wanted to remind you all that the more student that come, the better it is for your candidate. I would also like to implore anyone with an interest to consider, at least, look into the position. Finding a candidate that has a genuine love for our division and Key Club will lead to the growth of our division in the future. On a side note, those who are attending the election this Thursday (January 13th), at Lake City High School; the election will be held in room B8 at 6PM. All candidates must arrive twenty minutes prior to the election. And the delegates must arrive fifteen minutes before. I hope to see you all there!
Expectations of an LtG
There are a few obligations that the LtG must be able to perform throughout their term: You must attend all board meetings, to your fullest ability. You must submit monthly Lieutenant Governor reports, as well as newsletters. You must be able to visit your division’s clubs to the best of your ability. You must be able to attend meetings and help plan for DCON for your LtG year. The most important of all is being a kind and caring individual who will work your hardest to improve the wellbeing of those around you and others internationally.
