hello. welcome to LZ#1.
there is so much creative talent running through Leamington that goes unnoticed, and so this zine was created to help showcase the numerous artists, poets, photographers, musicians and writers that live in or around this town. we hope to be able to draw attention to the thriving culture that exists under the surface, and bring its disparate strands together, to show that there’s more to Leamington than nice parks and bad clubs. we’ve only just scratched the surface, so please get in touch if you’d like to have your work featured or get involved. All our details are on the back, along with the names of our generous contributors.
we hope you enjoy, LZ 2

NO.2 (taken from Gadfly) A faint popping: of fidelity and holiness let me let me I taste the lingering smoke, my anaclisis quelling the angry please... bubbling spittle on the roof tiles gin gurgling in the bellies of tinkering tramps. That faux vernality that smile that vitriol, softening the blow parlance full of casual cursing, gentle obloquy the kind that would usually be good sport but now but now a jumble of words marking unwelcome vagaries; radiator clank howling kettle because every web is spun, and my eyes will catch every photograph I’ll always be welcome to attend to stand at the back of the congregation and smile politely. 8
MIDLANDS MUSIC It’s no secret that the Midlands has been a hotbed of emerging musical talent for some time now, and the huge rush of new bands heralded by the (somewhat divisive) B-town scene shows no sign of slowing down. We’ll be taking a look at some of the best local bands coming up through the ranks, starting with: Atlas Cherry-picking the best elements of modern indie, from the brooding basslines of Warpaint to the reverb drenched vocals of King Krule, punctuated by the angular hooks of Foals and Alt J, Atlas are a band overflowing with ideas and musical talent. Previous releases 'How The Truth Tastes' and 'Dew' show off their amalgam of styles, from angst-ridden indie-rock to layered soundscape, but it's their new single 'Beckon Blue' that really showcases their sound.
Weaving shimmering guitars and crashing
cymbals into a thick shroud, it’s the yearning vocals that provide the through line, holding your attention as the track builds higher and higher until the inevitable but exhilarating whirling breakdown. Playing passionate and inventive modern indie that’s sensational live, Atlas are a band to keep both eyes firmly on. soundcloud/atlas-17 facebook/ATLASATLASuk 9
