2022 LOWER PRIMARY LEARNING CURVE PLANNER DISCOVERING MORE ABOUT ME My Name My Class
My Teacher
Dear Parents and Teachers, Students will need your support by explaining and offering direction for the activities. As their reading skills develop, encourage them to try to make sense of what they are being asked to do. This planner focuses on developing a self-awareness of themselves and learning to self-regulate how they act and feel.

FRIENDSHIPS WEEKS Choose a week around the middle of every term to have a special focus on encouraging students to use one of the four strengths, gratitude, teamwork, kindness and leadership, to build friendships with classmates and other students. There are pages for students to draw and describe their experiences at the back of this planner. * Being Grateful Week – page 121
* Being in a Team Week – page 122

Introduce the concept of strengths, that everyone has things that they do well and that they use in their lives to be themselves. With the class explore things that they could do well and ask students to circle five of their own. Brainstorm to come up with another four to insert at the bottom of the page.
WHAT I DO WELL: MY STRENGTHS Ask students to draw or write the five strengths they chose for themselves on each finger and thumb of the hand below. In the palm of the hand ask them to draw themselves doing one of the five.

FEELINGS AND MY FACE Introduce the concept to students of the messages that their faces send to other people, and they need to understand how their faces look for different feelings. A fun way to do this is in pairs where students swap planners and make faces for feelings and their classmate draws what their face looks like. Exercised nearly every day

BEING GRATEFUL WEEK To introduce the concept of gratitude, share that there are many kind things that other people do to help them grow up in a healthy and happy way. Saying thank you is being grateful. Make a Being Grateful Wall in the classroom for students to draw or describe things that they are grateful for and what they said to say thank you. Also, at home, encourage families to make a Being Grateful Wall on the fridge, to participate as well. Kind things others did that I am grateful for.
