2024 LOWER PRIMARY LEARNING CURVE PLANNER Discovering More About Me My Name My Class My Teacher Dear Parents and Teachers, Students will need your support by explaining and offering direction for the activities. As their reading skills develop, encourage them to try to make sense of what they are being asked to do. This planner focuses on developing a self-awareness of themselves and learning to self-regulate how they act and feel.
Friendships Weeks Choose a week around the middle of every term to have a special focus on encouraging students to use one of the four strengths – gratitude, teamwork, kindness and leadership, to build friendships with classmates and other students. There are pages for students to draw and describe their experiences at the back of this planner. » Being Grateful week – page 110 » Being in a Team Week – page 111 » Being Kind Week – page 112 » Being a Leader Week – page 113 1

Introduce the concept of strengths, that everyone has things that they do well and that they use in their lives that make them who they are. With the class explore things that they do well and ask students to circle five they think they could do.
What I Do Well: My Strengths Ask students to draw or write the five strengths they chose for themselves from page 4 on the thumb and each finger on the hand below. In the palm of the hand ask them to draw themselves doing one of the five. 3.

As a class look for three words together to get students on the right track. Share the strategy of looking for the most uncommon letter in a word first to find the word.

Friendly Feelings How you communicate with people isn’t always in words. Your body and the way it moves, looks and acts shows people how you are feeling. Sometimes our brain copies other people’s moods and movement. This is called body language. With your family try practising things like good eye contact, smiling and being happy by using your body. This will show people you are a friendly person.

The Brain’s Footpath Your brain has lots of little paths in it that your thoughts and messages travel on. By exercising our brain just like we do with our muscles in our bodies, we can make it stronger, so it grows and helps us to remember new things. If you exercise your brain enough or practise something over and over you will create a new memory or habit. What is something you can do or practise to help your brain learn something new?

Healthy Habits When we do something over and over it becomes a habit. One habit can create another if we repeat it enough. For example, making sure our school bag is packed each night before bed saves you time in the morning before school so you can play with your pet before you leave. Do this more often and it will become something you automatically do or a habit. What is a healthy habit that you can create?
Healthy Friendships When is a time that you felt embarrassed by something that happened? Did the feeling last long?

Plenty of Sleep It is important that we get 9-10 hours sleep every night so that we stay healthy, have the energy to play and learn and have the time to let our mind and body recharge. Having a routine like a warm shower, reading a book or drawing before bed can help us create a bedtime routine. Draw below what you do now before bed.

Patterns in Your Brain Practising what you learn at school when you get home each day helps your brain create a new pattern for each new skill. For example, learning to skip with a skipping rope or reading a book that is at a level higher will help stretch your brain and train it to remember the new tasks. Practise makes perfect so keep trying and eventually your brain will travel the new path you have created. What is something you could revisit doing at night when you get home from school, sport or music?
