A resilient mindset means that you are willing and able to develop Grateful Connections, Self-Control, Empathy and Self-Belief. Throughout this planner there are questions and lessons on each of these, and by thinking about and writing down your thoughts you will develop a resilient mindset. For each of these, colour in on the following diagrams where you feel you are at right now.

RESILIENCE SKILLS IN ACTION Resilient Mindset Intention: for you to practise using the seven resilience skills by choosing which ones you believe would help you with the following situations. Your resilience skills are like your muscles, they only get stronger by using them. REAL-LIFE SITUATIONS
RESILIENCE SKILLS
You went to your cousin’s wedding, the first that you had ever been to and were unsure how you should think or feel. Your friends want you to join in a risky activity and you don’t want to. One of your friends keeps texting you all of the time and you are tired of it. Last week you had some problems with some of the students in your group, and now you are being left out of things. You have felt pretty flat lately and want to start to look on the light and bright side of life again. Your friends want to go bungee jumping, but you are so afraid to join in. One of your friends told you she is selfharming and made you promise not to tell.
You are under the pump trying to finish an assignment on time, but you seem to be always getting stuck on little issues. Your friend is struggling and upset because of family problems and you want to help her. Last Word: what is an issue that you currently have that you will have to be resilient to respond well to and overcome? ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... 114

Lesson Seven
LESSON SEVEN Content from Student Planner
CHARACTER STRENGTH WEEK Resilient Mindset Intention: by understanding that many of the good things in your life come from outside of yourself, you will have an opportunity to be grateful for them. Showing gratitude for the little everyday things that you have is a powerful generator of positive emotions for you. Pausing and noticing what is going well in your life, and then choosing to act to show that you are grateful is a great short cut to feeling happiness and healthy wellbeing.
GRATITUDE WEEK Think about the little things you already have in your life that you are grateful for, not the things you want; what would happen if they weren’t there? And think about the many kind acts others do for you, without you asking; do you say thank you? Choosing to show gratitude builds everyone’s wellbeing. This week make Gratitude Walls both in your classroom and at home for your class and your family to write down or draw things they are grateful for and what they said to say thank you.
2023 Resilient Mindset Teacher Planner DTP © Print & Marketing Services (Vic) Pty Ltd
This Week’s Gratitudes: This week write down or draw little things that you are grateful for and kind things others did for you that you are grateful for and then say thank you to them. Also, who was grateful for your efforts this week?
“It is not happiness that brings us gratitude. It is gratitude that brings us happiness.” Anon
Last Word: being thankful for the little good things that you have in your life are thoughts and feelings, whereas, being grateful is acting on these thoughts and feelings in your words and actions. What are some things that you do to show that you are grateful? ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... 115 15

Resilient Mindset Intention: for you to practise looking for and then using more accurate vocabulary to describe values, virtues and strengths, which is an important skill of emotional literacy. An effective strategy to do the word search is to first look for the most unusual letter in each word in the search, and then look for the rest of the letters in the word around it. Have fun doing this word search.
Lesson Eleven
LESSON ELEVEN Content from Student Planner
JOMO IN, FOMO OUT Resilient Mindset Intention: for you to understand that many people are addicted to the short-term feel-good hits that they receive from the brain chemical dopamine when they are on their phones with social media. This causes in them FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) which glues their faces to their phones. FOMO can be beaten by using JOMO (Joy Of Missing Out) by getting feel-good serotonin hits from talking with their family and friends. JOMO enables you to feel great without dopamine. Acknowledgement: Rievich & Shatte
Explore what dopamine is, how it is released in your brain and how it affects you? .......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... When is a time that you said no to your friends about joining in something, which made you feel the feel-good effects of JOMO?

BUILDING RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS Resilient Mindset Intention: by believing and showing that other people matter in your face-to-face interactions, you are inviting them to connect with you. The happiest and healthiest people have strong social connections to family, friends and others. When you feel a sense of belonging and acceptance, feel-good brain chemicals oxytocin and serotonin are released, filling you with feelings of being valued and loved. This reduces your anxious thoughts, improves your health and boosts your personal and academic growth. Acknowledgement: Diener & Biswas-Diener

REFLECTION TIME
DECEMBER AND 2025
Regular reflection of professional practice and encouraging honest feedback from critical friends are both essential and beneficial to the ongoing development of learning and teaching. At the end of each month reflect on our teaching practice and record thoughts below. This is a developmental exercise, not a judgemental one; be constructive. Did you achieve what you set out to do? Why or why not?
Things that went well and why:
Things to improve on and how. Any professional development required?
Things to achieve in the future:
Things to follow up:
