Learning SPACE has been creating sensory spa since 2007, providing a completely unique sens experience and specialist provisions to those w seek it

Our Story

Learning SPACE was set up in 2007, by sisters Lorraine (teacher) and Mary (social worker) They felt parents, teachers, therapists and especially children deserved better when it came to accessing resources and sharing of knowledge, hence Learning SPACE was born. The main spark came from supporting their amazing sister, Emma, who has Soto Syndrome.

Our dedicated team of advisors are highly skilled in this field and come with a wealth of experience and qualifications From teaching and social services experience to real life experience supporting family members with special educational needs or indeed have a special educational need themselves They are passionate and driven to make a positive impact on children's lives.

Sensory Spaces can reduce sensory overload for children who may find their environment overwhelming, enabling them to relax more and enjoy their holiday experience.

Sensory Spaces provides visual, tactile and auditory stimulation, which can help to increase sensory input in children who require more stimulation, enabling them to regulate their sensory and emotional needs

Sensory spaces can incorporate mindfulness activities to help support interceptive awareness, which will facilitate self-regulation and support social and emotional learningsomething that can greatly benefit children whilst on vacation and socializing with other children.

Sensory spaces can promote self-care, self-nurturance, empowerment, skill development, social skills, enjoyment, calmness & relaxation.

Encourages and develops imagination - Resulting in a more relaxed development in social skills and encourages roleplay with other children who share the sensory space

Builds relationships with other children due to the unique calming experience often not felt in normal day to day interactions. This calming environment is a place to bond with other children, providing a restful, peaceful experience away from busy, sometimes overwhelming, loud and unfamiliar settings

Allows a safe place for children to spend their time away from their parents to learn independence - and in turn, allows for grown-up's to have some time alone too.

Promotes relaxation and encourages children to seek their most restful state by interacting with a variety of different sensory products.

What is a sensory room for?

I love to think of sensory rooms as ‘Time for Me’ rooms - filled with all the things that ignite and stimulate, or switch off and relax your senses.

For children who are on their family holiday, a sensory room can be an invaluable addition to their days, which can turn an ordinary fun holiday into an incredibly rewarding and memorable experience.

By offering a range of sensory opportunities, this enables the individual to explore and meet their sensory needs through regulation - which will in turn, offer a balanced calmness to their regular daily activities.

When vacationing abroad, although only temporary, children are leaving behind their home, their routine, their comforts and familiarity For many, this can cause distress and anxiety - feelings of being overwhelmed in a crowded unfamiliar place, surrounded by strangers, can be quite unsettling. This in turn can also impact the rest of the family and can create an uneasy dynamic on their family holiday.

Therefore, we believe that creating an area for children to spend their time, an area filled with comfortable seating, relaxing sounds, dim lighting and full of textures and stimulating activities, this will help regulate the child's sensory needs and will bring comfort to the whole family throughout their stay

Mindful and Movement Sensory Paths

Our amazing sensory paths are a series of guided movements for children to follow, shown by pictures and graphic images for both the ground and walls. As the students follow the path and complete the movements, they work off excess energy and develop their gross motor skills. The Learning Space Path also incorporates a sensory experience, helping to develop and encourage not only breathing techniques, pause methods but also mindful thinking.

Our school collaborated with Learning Space to develop an outdoor sensory pathway and interactive activity area. Lorraine and Barbara worked closely with us to develop our ideas and ensure we got exactly what we envisaged, in order to meet the needs of our pupils. Learning Space were careful not to rush the project to enable them to source appropriate, sustainable outdoor materials and resources. The completed area is exciting and vibrant, allowing the children to engage their senses, regulate their emotions and have fun. We are delighted with the outcome and look forward to working with Learning Space again in the future.
