Opening |
Elegant, easy and convenient To open a bottle of wine with a cork, you should first remove the metal foil covering the cork. For this you can use a foilcutter. First, cut around the spout of the bottle and remove the top of the foil. By doing so, the foil will be cleanly removed and your wine will not drip on the table when you pour. After this, the cork can be removed. A quick and convenient way to do this is to use one of our automatic self-winding corkscrews, where a simple down-up motion of the lever will remove the cork with minimum effort. A second down-up motion of the lever will eject the cork from the screw. Our range of lever models feature a patented rotation technology, making them convenient for you to open wines with natural or plastic corks. These corkscrews are also great when many bottles of wine need to be opened as they will save you a lot of time. Using a lever model at the table adds theatre to a gathering and will impress your guests.

Indulge yourself! Whenever you are planing to go the park for a picnic, organising some drinks for a meeting, BYO dinners, or events alike, it may be best to have a corkscrew handy. To avoid cork breakages, it is a good idea to use a corkscrew where you do not need to use as much force. Le Creuset corkscrews are easy to use, they won’t destroy the cork and the screw comes down far enough to grab the entire cork. When opening a sparkling wine bottle, you will need a special tool as no ordinary corkscrew will do the job. These caps can be opened by hand, but in certain cases it can be difficult. It is good to have an opener that can easily and smoothly do the job for you.

Serving |
When to aerate your wine? It is primarily young red wines that have a high content of tannins that need aerating in order to enhance their flavours. To enjoy a fresher young white wine, aerate it before serving. Tannins come from the grape skins or wood from the storage barrels and they can provide a dry mouth feeling. The presence of tannin is completely normal and it would not alter the quality of the wine or the storage conditions. When you aerate wine, oxygen makes the wine’s tannins softer and rounder and the wine will be tastier to drink. At the same time fruit notes are enhanced by the vent, so the wine’s aroma and flavour is released. It is not enough to just pull out the cork to give the wine some air. A carafe or decanter might be necessary to properly aerate your wine. Preferably, the decanter/carafe should have a flat bottom, so that the wine gets a large breathing area. Let the wine aerate for at least an hour before serving, preferably longer. If the wine is to be drunk immediately after opening and there is no time to let it stand as suggested, use an aerator or a funnel for a quicker aerating procedure. If a wine has dregs, it is also advantageous to pour it into a decanter before serving, so you do not get any sediment in the glass.

Cooling |
Temperature matters! The wine’s temperature affects how you experience its power, balance, taste and smell. Therefore, here are a few tips on how the different wines should be served in order to get the best experience. Red Wine Generally there is a tendency to drink red wine too hot. Nervertheless, when the wine is too warm, sweetness conceals the acid contained in wine, resulting in a flat taste. This is the reason why dessert wines are always served cool. A strong red wine should not be served at a temperature higher than 18 degrees and a light red wine not above 14 degrees. It can be difficult to assess the wine’s exact temperature, but one tip is to put the red wine in the fridge and take it out half an hour before consumption. White Wine & Sparkling Wine These wines have a freshness that come into their own when the wine is served cold. They may therefore be refrigerated and served immediately after being removed from the fridge. To ensure that the wine does not get too hot so quickly, you can use a Cooler Sleeve before serving.

Preserving |
Make your wine last longer When storing wine, it is important to place it in a dark, cool place with a constant temperature. Wine bottles can be kept in the kitchen or in the basement. It is not recommended to store wine in an attic as these rooms tend to have large temperature differences throughout the day. If you are after a nice glass of wine but wont be drinking the whole bottle during that same day, you can preserve the wine’s freshness and flavour by putting in place some of our preserving tools. A wine pump is highly recommended for this purpose. When the wine gets in contact with the air, it immediately improves its flavour and aroma, but if the oxygen effect continues for too long, the wine will become sour and acquire a bad taste - just like milk. With a pump, you can extract most of the oxygen out of the bottle so that it does not affect the wine and it can stay fresh for several days. An opened bottle of wine should always be kept cool in the fridge. For sparkling wines, you should never use a wine pump as it will remove the fizz out of the wine. Instead, a practical vacuum stopper will help keep the bubbles alive, so you can enjoy the sparkling wine for several more days. It is also recommended to put the stopper on after serving the wine, even if it is to be consumed right after. By doing so, the bubbles are kept alive for the next glass.
