For Jane and Sophie with my love and gratitude.

Darkness is all around. We see and hear so much anger, fear, hurt and ugliness. We have lost the innocence of the child who sees the good in the humblest of things.

We are busy, running late or simply preoccupied, and neglect to notice the simple beauty that can be found in the everyday right where we are.

In contrast, I present a part of the world as I see it. Where, when I open my eyes and look, really look, there is elegance in the shades, the shadows, the shapes, the textures and the tones. Nature’s impression on man’s canvas. A vision that calms my mind, provokes my thoughts and stirs the emotions.

It is not what the subject is, though each is real, but what it makes me think, how it makes me feel and what it reveals to me that is important.
