Students will be introduced to environmental issues, urbanization and our connection with nature through this project. Students will begin by understanding the works of the local non-profit organization, Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) in connecting people with nature, self and others through interviews, observations, field work and volunteer immersion. You will conduct a physical and cultural analysis of the existing and future site. As well as understand the needs and aspirations of the staff of GUI, their partners. Volunteers, and other stakeholders

Design Concept

‘Back to square’ having the meaning of starting again from where you begin is designed to create a bonding space while allowing users to find comfort while reflecting through nature. This space is dedicated to mainly staff and volunteers to allow a strengthened community while creating meaning to life. The space is being splitted into many parts to allow different level of privacy and usage for different users.

Community plaza - gathering space for events large groups

Briefing workshop - briefing area for medium sized groups

Conversation pods - smaller group to bond and reflect

Reflection corners - for individuals to spend time alone
