This course is a recognised alternative route to university if you don’t have the traditional qualifications. You will develop the knowledge and practical skills relating to computer science, allowing you to journey towards your desired career. Skills you will develop include networking, programming, project management, emerging technologies and more.

Upon successful completion, you can progress on to relevant computer science degrees, such as the Applied Computing foundation degree or Cyber Security & Networking degree at University Centre Leeds.

The Access to HE qualification is widely recognised by many universities for entry into various engineering degrees. By studying this programme, you will broaden your knowledge in multiple areas of engineering, such as mechanical, medical and electrical.

You will develop your maths, physics, engineering and academic skills, while learning about electricity and electromagnetism, calculus, and waves and optics. You will also conduct a design project in an engineering context.

Designed for adult learners who want to progress to university to study medicine or medical sciences, this course is perfect for bridging the gap between GCSEs and higher education. On this exciting Level 3 diploma course, you will deepen your understanding of biology, chemistry and maths by studying in a dedicated laboratory with specialist tutors. You will also advance your skills in writing academic reports and will cover a variety of topics, including characteristics and reactions of organic compounds, structure and functions of the major body systems, and applications of scientific, statistical and epidemiological problems.

Progression may include medicine, medical sciences degrees, biology or chemistrybased degrees.

Access to Foundation Certificate Level 2

This programme is ideal if you are interested in health science professions, allowing you to gain the skills needed to progress further in health science subjects.

You will study human physiology, human health and disease, psychology, sociology and health studies. You will also improve your academic skills, and study GCSE English and Maths to attain grade 4 or higher. Please note, you will need GCSE English and Maths at grade 3 (previous grade D) to gain entry to this course.

Progression may include a relevant Access to HE course which allows you to study at university.

Access to HE Diploma Level 3

You will study both manufacturing engineering and electrical engineering units, while developing in-depth engineering knowledge and essential skills. You will also study academic research and writing skills to prepare you for higher education and the fastpaced yet rewarding engineering sector.

Progression may include relevant degree level study.

Essential Skills for Further Study in Engineering

Level 2

Start date: September 2022 Duration: 1 year Study: Full-time, 3 days per week Location: Park Lane Campus

This course is for you if you are interested in quantity surveying or any form of engineering. This could be everything from medical, mechanical, aeronautical and structural to civil, chemical, architectural, electrical or electronic.

You will develop your foundation knowledge of maths, physics and engineering, as well as academic skills, and gain practical laboratory experience. There is also a strong focus on calculus, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and more.

On completion, you can progress to an Access to HE programme – including the Access to HE Diploma (Engineering) course – or degree-level study.

Essential Skills for Further Study in Science Certificate

Level 2

Study: Full-time

Course Code: 74945 Duration: 1 year Location: Park Lane Campus

Develop the academic skills you need to succeed at university. By studying this course, you will gain the essential knowledge and experience of laboratory practical work in biology and chemistry.
