This diploma is perfect if you want to study sociology, criminology or social policy at university, but don’t yet have the relevant qualifications to do so.

You will study a range of psychology, sociology and social policy units, as well as optional modules depending on your aspirations. For example, a social work unit can be studied instead of crime and deviance, or a psychology pathway may be taken if this is an area you would like to pursue. You will also develop a wide range of academic skills – including academic writing and referencing.

Progression may include a degree in social work, psychology or criminology.

This diploma is ideal for anyone wanting to study a psychology-related degree. It introduces you to key aspects of psychology, including behavioural, cognitive, psychodynamic and humanistic approaches.

You will explore statistics, as well as biological, social and developmental psychology, and undertake a psychology research skills project based on your personal interests. You will also develop your academic skills, such as writing and referencing.

To study this course, you will need GCSE English and maths at grade 4 (previous grade C) or above, or equivalent.

Looking to study social science or social work but don’t yet have the qualifications to do so? This course is applicable if you are looking to gain the knowledge and skills needed to progress to further learning in social science subjects.

You will study psychology, mental health, sociology and social policy, while improving academic skills such as academic writing and referencing. You will also study GCSE English and maths if you don’t have the grades. Please note, in order to study this course you will need a minimum grade 3 (previous grade D) in GCSE English and maths, or equivalent.

Progression may include a relevant Access to HE course, allowing you to take the next steps towards university.

Access to Social Work

This diploma is ideal if you are looking to study a social work degree but don’t currently have the qualifications to do so. The specialist course allows you to study the required academic and sector-specific skills for studying at university level.

You will study a range of relevant topics including development psychology, social inequality, understanding the welfare state and social work. You may also explore safeguarding, family law and values, and diversities and rights.

Progression may include a social work degree.
