Volunteering Opportunities

Public Service students are encouraged to take part in volunteering whilst studying on their course. Volunteering opportunities support students in developing confidence and essential employability skills, and form a sense of community during studying.

During 2019/2020 the Public Service students had a wide range of volunteering opportunities - including working with Leeds City College allotment, Marie Curie, Trussell Trust Food Bank, The Royal British Legion, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue and West Yorkshire Police.

During 2020/2021, Public Service students continued to engage with relevant employers, voluntary organisations and higher education establishments - even during lockdown and via remote learning. This included taking part in guest speaker presentations, and question & answer sessions with West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, South Yorkshire Police, West Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Army, as well as Leeds Trinity University, Leeds Beckett University and webinar lectures delivered by Teesside University. Students have volunteered for Leeds Safeguarding Children’s Panel, local food banks and Leeds Canal and River Trust, with a small number of students also enrolling onto a virtual Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
