Shopping
Old meets new with Leeds’ beautiful arcades that sit side by side with modern shopping centres. Trinity Leeds features favourite shopping spots such as Primark, H&M and Boots. Briggate is home to Zara and The Body Shop; and be sure not to miss vintage favourites such as Pop Boutique, Cow and Blue Rinse. If you prefer independent stores, check out the arcades within Victoria Leeds, which are home to luxe boutiques such as Anthropologie, SpaceNK, Jack Wills and more. With the ornate shop windows, foundations and seasonal decorations, you will discover the finest establishments in Leeds.
Food
Leeds is known for its variety of independent restaurants, cafés and bars. With so many eateries to choose from, the hardest decision will be choosing where to eat first! Trinity Kitchen offers an array of food vendors, ranging from pizza to ribs, and new vendors rotating in and out keep the choices varied. Kirkgate Market also hosts independent food vendors ranging from traditional fish and chips (arguably the best in the city centre) to tasty Vietnamese dishes. For something fancier, The Ivy on Vicar Lane is not to be missed, with its delicious meals, quaint afternoon teas and mouth-watering desserts, all set in vibrant art-deco interiors.
Outdoors
With over 4,000 hectares of green space, Leeds is proud to be one of Europe’s greenest cities. Take a picnic to the sprawling Roundhay Park or discover the incredible ruins of Kirkstall Abbey. Further afield, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is famed for its Yorkshire stone, picturesque landscapes and friendly community. Or for international waters, you can jet away in no time from Leeds Bradford Airport.

Entertainment
Laugh yourself silly or sing along to your favourite acts at First Direct Arena and the O2 Academy, both just a 20-minute walk from University Centre. If you’re a music maestro, you will love Belgrave Music Hall, which hosts plenty of emerging talent, or why not kick back and relax at Hyde Park’s Brudenell Social Club? Nightlife lovers can take advantage of a variety of pubs and bars in the city centre: enjoy a pint at Whitelock’s and The Turk’s Head, have a catch-up and cocktail at Alchemist, or try something different on board The Dry Dock Leeds. There’s also a choice of three Wetherspoons for affordable beverages, or if you’re feeling brave, why not dress up and try your hand at the famous Otley Run with friends?
Life in Keighley
Keighley isn’t just proud of being the birthplace of the late Captain Sir Tom Moore. It’s also proud of its strong community spirit, something you will feel as soon as you begin studying here. With Haworth on the doorstep, the Brontë Parsonage Museum is a must-see. Tour the former home of the famous Brontës and discover where the inspiration for their novels originated. Keighley’s Cliffe Castle Museum and Park is another great destination for culture enthusiasts, with its amazing exhibitions and stunning gardens. Winding paths and tall trees make Devonshire Park the ideal place for a walk between classes. Further down the road, you will find Lund Park, the perfect spot for a picnic in the summer. In the evening, you can enjoy an affordable beverage at The Livery Rooms, before tucking into an Italian at Santoni Osteria or traditional Asian cuisine at Thai on Aire.

In the past, Harrogate was a fashionable spa resort and today it’s still a Northern gem, thanks to its prime location and abundance of shops, cafés, restaurants and bars. You will want to visit the Valley Gardens too, especially on warmer days when the flowers and fauna look incredible. The Victoria Shopping Centre is home to favourites like New Look, Next and Body Shop. For high-end fashion, head to James Street, where you will find LK Bennett, Jigsaw and Kurt Geiger, not to mention Hotel Chocolat for delicious gifts. A traditional afternoon tea at Bettys Tea Rooms is a must, but for independent eateries, you can tuck into Mediterranean and tapas at Essenza Bar & Restaurant, traditional Greek dishes at Taverna, or fine dining at The Wild Plum, just down the road from our campus. In the evening, enjoy a tipple at The Little Ale House or the interestingly named The Disappearing Chin. TEACHER TRAINING, LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT If there’s one thing you can say about teaching, it’s that the need for teachers and educators never goes out of demand. Teaching is one of the West Yorkshire region’s most sought-after skills (WYCA, 2021). Why? Because good teachers shape the lives of their students, and in doing so, they shape our society. The Luminate Partnership for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) was established in 2020, enabling new and existing teachers to benefit from our excellent links with partnership schools and academies. If you’re looking to empower and equip the next generation, our qualifications will help you do so with the right skills and knowledge.
