Tue 23 – Sat 27 April 2019 From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Jerome Robbins’ iconic production transports Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to 1950s New York City where two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs: the American Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. Following last year’s acclaimed production of Cats, Leeds Amateur Operatic Society (LAOS) returns to The Grand to bring you this landmark Broadway musical. Based on a concept by Jerome Robbins, book by Arthur Laurents and a stunning score by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this is one rumble you won’t want to miss!

Tue 7 – Sat 18 May 2019 Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it ‘brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval’ (DAILY MAIL). The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True. Starring Olivier Award-nominated Linzi Hateley in the seminal role of Mrs Johnstone. Linzi has performed in countless West End productions including MAMMA MIA!, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Les Misérables, Chicago, Grease and Mary Poppins.
