A Musical Summer with the CSO
By Leentje De Leeuw The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has been recognized as one of the greatest orchestras in the world for over a century. This summer, the CSO presents plenty of events at different locations throughout the city. We have no doubt that you will find at least one concert to your liking. We selected some of our favorite performances in June and July.

Conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in Ravel’s shimmering masterpiece. June 2nd-4th.
Maestro Muti
CSO’s world renowned Music Director Riccardo Muti returns to Chicago for three amazing programs:
Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 and the Beethoven Violin Concerto, with celebrated violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter as soloist, June 16th-18th Concert performances of Verdi’s Un ballo in Maschera, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and acclaimed soloists, on June 23rd, 25th and 28th Free Concert for Chicago in Millennium Park, on June 27th, featuring a program of Shostakovich’s Festive Overture of Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.
This last one could very well be thé event of the summer in Chicago!
Jazz
Grammy Award-winning vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant headlines a Symphony Center Presents Jazz series concert on June 3rd. CSO at the Movies
You don’t have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy the CSO at the Movies’ presentation of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi on June 30th and July 1st-2nd.
Broadway
Tony Award-winner and actress Kelli O’Hara joins the CSO and conductor Steven Reineke for an evening of Broadway favorites on June 9th.
CSO Residency at Ravinia
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra opens its annual summer residency program at the iconic Ravinia Festival on July 15th with concerts continuing through August 21st. See Ravinia.org for the full schedule.
