Description: UVA Health Prince William Medical Center is a 130-bed community hospital with a comprehensive offering of services in emergency, heart and vascular, imaging, women’s and children’s health, therapy services, behavioral health, wound care and sleep medicine. 2022 accomplishments or challenges: UVA Health continued its services to the greater Prince William area as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to ebb and flow throughout 2022, including surges from the Delta variant. Alongside caring for inpatients at our Prince William and Haymarket medical centers, UVA Health opened many new essential services to the community such as breast surgery for women with breast cancer/reconstruction needs, additional weight loss surgeons, urology services, more primary care providers and pediatricians for a total of more than 50 new providers hired in 2022.

Prince William County Department of Economic Development, Amazon and Marine Corps Base Quantico

Details: The lack of workforce in the last couple years has caused an economic hardship for businesses. Amazon stepped in and suggested a partnership and provided free support to hold a job fair that would draw attention to our county and the military workforce here. The job fair was an overwhelming success and was the catalyst for the Department of Economic Development to team with Quantico and hold another job fair at the Quantico museum. Amazon was there again helping – marketing the event to attendees of their past military events and helping us free of charge to reach the targeted community of transitioning military, spouses and veterans. Amazon also attended the Quantico event and hosted a table to attract prospective employees.

City of Manassas Economic Development, The SkillSource Group and Prince William Adult Education

Details: To help all city residents reach their potential, the city of Manassas launched Graduate: Do it for you. Do it for them. Collaborating with regional workforce development partners, the city provides tutoring, mentoring, course materials, online instruction, and test-taking expenses free to any city resident who wants to earn their GED. Successful GED graduates also receive $250 worth of gift certificates to participating Manassas restaurants and retailers. The program leverages the expertise of workforce development partner, the SkillSource Group, and the Prince William County Public Schools Adult Education program to provide the training, preparing students for state-approved GED assessment.

HireGround Inc.

Details: HireGround charted the Career Education Assistance Program in April 2022 with the mission to assist Prince William residents, focused around the underserved, suffering the rippling aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The startup capital for this program was provided through a partnership with the Human Services Alliance of Greater Prince William. Students go through three phases to ensure they are fully prepared for the workforce: language, educational development and professional development. Through a partnership with MANGO Language, students have access to English-as-a-Second Language virtual courses. Upon becoming proficient in English, students can select from a variety of trades and industrial training tracks from one of six partnerships: Unique Health School, Advanced Career Solutions, Primm School of Beauty and Brains, Franklin’s Barber Academy, Kratos Votech Training, HCG Real Estate and EIDOS Technologies.

I-66 Express Mobility Partners

Details: I-66 Express Mobility Partners worked closely with the Virginia Department of Transportation, FAM Construction (a team comprised of Ferrovial and Allan Meyers), and dozens of contractors to make the Interstate 66 Express Lanes Outside the Beltway a reality. The project included stronger pavement on the general-purpose lanes, reconstruction of interchanges, replacement of bridges and other infrastructure.

Prince William County

Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism and Kaiser Permanente

Details: Kaiser Permanente and the Prince William Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism delivered a wellness park for the Occoquan community. The park, to be known as Wellness Park at Harbor Drive in Healthy Partnership with Kaiser Permanente, consists of a community garden and a one-mile paved trail for walking, jogging, and biking; it also features a variety of exercise equipment. The project represents a successful public-private partnership totaling $200,000 of direct private investment by Kaiser Permanente.

Details: Working with Nasir Ayoub, CTE Workforce Development Coordinator for Prince William County Public Schools, we are using a grant being offered by the Virginia Department of Labor & Industry to create the platform connecting the dealerships to auto tech at Osbourn Park and Hylton high schools.

Kiddie Academy of Gainesville

Details: Our community is suffering from a staffing shortage. By partnering with our local schools to help underserved communities find meaningful employment, they are not only solving their issues in this area, but helping children to appreciate a diverse group of leaders in their classrooms and at home – many of whom can also see themselves represented in the staff at Kiddie Academy at a critical age.

OmniRide

Details: OmniRide’s goal is to provide safe, reliable and flexible transportation options while helping to reduce congestion and pollution in one of the region's fastest-growing areas. The bus beautification program is an innovative approach to this goal because it takes resources (bus shelters) already in place and repurposes them to make the shelters and areas around them more beautiful. Additionally, it teaches the community about the importance of being green and sustainable. In addition to the bus beautification project, the partnership between OmniRide and Keep Prince William Beautiful has led to other projects, including grocery bag recycling boxes being placed at both OmniRide facilities, and Adopt-a-Spot clean up days in the Woodbridge and Manassas areas.

Holladay Properties, George Mason University, Prince William County Department of Economic Development and Northern Virginia Bioscience Center

Details: Holladay Properties and Prince William County are in a public-private partnership, with Holladay functioning as the developer and managing entity of the Bioscience Center. The Northern Virginia Bioscience Center, although privately owned, works hand in hand with the economic development department to encourage and grow the life sciences sector in the county. The county provided some grant funds during construction, holds a limited master lease and provides ongoing marketing sup- port. The state provided a GoVA grant to buy specialized equipment found in the labs, and GMU has worked with the center by providing recognition and advisory services.

Sandy Spring Bank and the Manassas Park Human Resources Department

Details: The city of Manassas Park Human Resources Department is partnering with Sandy Spring Bank to offer a financial empowerment series to its employees. This program will offer a series of informational sessions designed to reduce financial stress and offer planning solutions for their current and future needs. Topics include budgeting basics, credit health, home and auto ownership, college planning and wealth management.
