They were able to vector a commercial ship to make the rescue. He was a Naval aviator (P-3 pilot/mission commander), a task group commander of an anti-submarine warfare operations center in Kadena, Japan, a squadron commanding officer VP-22 in Hawaii, an admiral’s aide at the Pentagon, and a chief of staff to a Navy admiral for Icelandic Defense Force and Naval Operations in the North Sea, and he served in a multitude of sea and shore duties related to Cold War operations. He participated in Middle East exercises and flew missions in the Persian Gulf in support of Desert Shield. He and the family had overseas tours in Hawaii, Okinawa, Japan, and Keflavik, Iceland. He made several six-month deployments, including to the Philippines, Diego Garcia, Alaska and Guam. In his final tours he worked in Washington and Patuxent River (Md.) advancing the efforts to train future pilots, flight offi-

He has a bachelor of electrical engineering and a master’s degree in resourcing-information technology. Today he is an officer and active member of the Haymarket American Legion Post 1799, the treasurer of the Heritage Hunt Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he is a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, the Patriotic Face of the Knights. My husband is the son of a career Navy man who attended college on a NROTC scholarship and went on to be a Naval aviator. He served with distinction and his love of the Service and the mission to protect our nation’s interest has never waivered. Even after retiring, he continued to serve the Department of Defense leading engineers, instructional designers, graphic artists and a multitude of other experts to ensure young officers and enlisted personnel learned to do their jobs safely and effectively.
