The President‘s Report Well, what a great couple of months for the Buderim Bowls Club? Firstly a huge congratulations to all our Pennant teams for performing so admirably. We entered 5 Divisions and were successful in reaching the finals in 4 of those Divisions. This is the best result the Club has had for many years. Division 4, made up of both experienced and relatively new bowlers bought home the bacon. Congratulations to them. Also congratulations to our Division 1 players who went down fighting against a very strong Coolum outfit in the Grand Final. Not bad for a Club that was touted as being the weakest in Div 1. To our beaten semi-finalists in Div’s 3 & 5, “well done” a very good effort. Thank you to our Selectors who put many long hours into the selection process. They did what they thought was the best selection criteria for both the players and club. The results proved that. To me there was one very sensible decision made by the Selectors, that being we enter no Division 2 this year. I believe that decision had all players lower than Division 1 playing in divisions they could handle. I would like to thank all those members who conveyed their best wishes to me after my recent leg breaking incident. Also the many visitors I have had both in hospital and at home. That will be the last Bull Riding event I enter. I am finding it rather frustrating not being able to visit the Club when I wish to. I will, however, be

back to almost normal in 6 weeks or so. The proposed refurbishment of the Club has progressed to the point where final plans, colour schemes, layouts and most importantly costings are almost in place to present to the Committee for approval or otherwise. If approval is given by the Committee then a Special General Meeting will be called and all members of the Club will be given the opportunity to vote on the proposal. Full disclosure of the project will be displayed for all members to see prior to the meeting. No doubt you have noticed that the new Poker Machine area is under construction. This was approved by the Management Committee as it was always going to happen even if the refurb didn’t go ahead. There are a number of pro’s for this relocation so if you have any questions please ask Senior Members of the Management Committee. I am always accessible by phone at any time so please don’t hesitate to ring me. You might be able to enlighten me on some of the misguided rumours that are floating around the Club at the moment. It is great to see the refurbished Flag Pole upright. Thanks to all and sundry who put in on that project including the Buderim Men’s Shed. Continued over page

the president’s report Following an 8’s meeting on Wednesday 16 September I can advise that the Great Bowls Challenge will commence on 16 January 2016. This competions has been the brain child of Darren Colburn and looks to have hit the positive spot of Clubs here on the Sunshine Coast. This is illustrated by the following Caloundra have committed to 3 teams, Nambour 2, Pelican 2, Pacific Paradise 1, Club Maroochy 2, Mooloolaba 2, The Albert, Pomona and Kandanga all committing as well. It is expected that Buderim will enter 3 teams also. Buderim has been designated as the Central club for the

Competition and the finals will be played at Buderim for the first 2 years of competition. To all our sick Members, Bill Shaw, Cliff Jorgensen, Brian Dobson, Ron Bichel, Ron Murray and anyone else who may have fallen in since I have penned this item. I hope you are on the improve as we would like to see you all back at the Club soon. Well, that’s about it for me this month, I’ll go out and jump the back fence just to see if I can do it better this time. Remember it is only a game of bowls.

senior vice president report by Lee Shimbel The two months since the last Bulletin seems to have gone by very quickly, however I guess there has been a lot going on at the club during that time. We have had a very successful Pennant season with both the men and ladies winning the 4th division flag, what a great effort. We also had three other men’s teams in the finals with one of them making the final but just missing out. I believe this is the best year ever for the club, well done to all the pennant players. As I write this I am looking forward to celebrating our success on Saturday 3rd of October with a Pennant Celebration Day. On the club maintenance front we continue to have little things that need attention. Thank you to John Herriot and his team of helpers who did such a great job on our “masthead” flag pole. The repairs were successful, the new paint looks bright and clean and no one was injured. The inside men’s toilet has had new doors fitted with glass panels to avoid collisions when entering and exiting. A new mirror has also been fitted to replace the old one that had seen better days. One last note about the toilet, gentlemen please adjust your dress before you exit the toilet area. We had a fire inspection during the period and

after a couple of small corrections passed with flying colours. I continue to get good feedback about the new and improved web site. We will continue to update it when ever needed. Please remember the Bulletin is available in an easy to read format on the web site. Our Face Book page started out slowly but is continuing to get an ever increasing following. The beauty of this media is that information can be published almost instantly as you would have noticed during the pennant finals. If anyone has anything they wish to have published by the club please send the information to me via email at lee@shimbel.com or by text on 0431449958. You can also comment yourself on the page and add photos. If you like what we are doing please get involved. The ladies have already embraced the medium and have contributed quite a bit to it. Come on gentlemen, items, just a few short words or even better some photographs. I am delighted to see the new lighting system on the front green getting used for competition and social bare foot bowls. Lets see if we can do more bowling under lights this summer.

games director’s report by Ted Field What seemed to me, a very long Pennant season, will be completed for our club with our winning number 4 Division playing in theZone Finals ( SEQ play-offs) at CoolumBeach on 14/15 November. Finalist Ferny Grove has forfeited, allowing Nambour Heights to represent with Buderim. Further info when received. And now we can settle down to continuing the club events, Handicap Singles and 2016 Championship Fours. The Handicap Singles held up by pennants, will continue on October 5 with Howes v Lipscombe and Austin V Green , Semi-final October 12. There has been a quite a mob of onlookers at these games, well rewarded watching some veryhard fought matches. The 2016 Fours Championship commenced on September 28 with the opening matches of teams Michael Richard V Hans Van Roy and teams R. Meacle V N. Ashton. Teams Taylor V Ashton are held up due to a family loss but will play catch- up over weekend Friday-Monday October 15/19.

Last competitive event for 2015 is the Mixed Pairs which should commence 3rd week in Octoberget your partners ready, this event will be played on Sundays afternoons. Good news from the SCDMBA,

Affiliation

Fees remain the same for next year, bad news, Bowl QLD, Fees will go to $42 incl. GST. Noel Spurway is taking entries for the Big November Men’s Fours Competition, last year 10 teams entered from Buderim, so if you intend to enterget in quickly, see Noel. Night bowls of Singles and Fours held Friday and Monday nights appear quite popular freeing up the Sundays for family business - an increase in entries noted. Players are reminded - games may be played by mutual consent on any night, just let me know beforehand for cards, rink availability, Umpire etc. Good Bowling

president’s report by Sandy King madam

Our annual Fiesta was held on 7th July and was very kindly sponsored by Edenlea on Buderim. 24 teams competed in the event and all really enjoyed the format of Fours, two games of Pairs with lunch for one team while the other played and then another Fours game. Mary Tidey and her band of helpers provided a great lunch of soup and rolls which was very much appreciated. On 19th and again on 25th August we hosted two groups from the Northern Rivers Bowls Association Tour Group and both days were very successful. I received a number of compliments from the group about the friendliness of the Club and the wonderful afternoon teas that Mary provided. Thanks to all the ladies who provided the food and also to Val Hartley who organised the great raffle prizes. The Men’s Club provided all the prizemoney so I thank them as well. The big news of the year is of course that Buderim Ladies Bowling Club won the Division 4 Pennant flag and went through the competition undefeated, which is a huge achievement. Our team was Leona Johnson (Skip), Jill McNeil (Third), Pam Jones (Second) and Trish Norris (Lead) and Sandy King (Skip), Jan Hagan (Third), Helen Young (Second) and Helen Hawthorne (Lead). My team also received and “8” against Club Maroochy on the last day of play which was

very exciting. It was great that we were awarded the flag at our own club by the District representative. Our thanks go to our coaches Brian West and Warren Watson and the selectors Jan Muir, Helen Hawthorne and Jill McNeil who did a great job putting the teams together. The win has been a long time coming as the last time we won a flag was in 1999, the year I joined the Club. Congratulations to all the players and of course our Manager Valda Barrable who kept us fuelled with caffeine and sugar. The support we got from the sidelines was wonderful and so many travelled to see us play. Their interest really spurred us on. Congratulations must also go to the Mens’ Club for winning their Division 4 Pennant flag and for being the runners-up in Division 1. Green and 4 are obviously Buderim’s lucky omens this year. All our competitions are over for the year so we can relax and enjoy the social bowls and other fun events organised for the remainder of the year. Our AGM is being held on Monday 30th November at 1 pm and nominations are now being called for all positions within the Club. Serving on the committee is very rewarding (most of the time) so I ask all members to please

games director’s report by Valda Barrable ladies

Recently the Northern Rivers District Bowls Association Tour Group visited our club on two occasions, with just under 40 players mixing with the locals for 2 bowl triples. Both days were very enjoyable days and we thank the Buderim Bowls Club for their sponsorship. The locals collected the prize money. Now that a successful Pennant season is over we have been able to complete the Consistancy Final that K. Kaltenbrunn won from S. King. The Spring Medley was played on Wednesday 16 September with 12 teams nominating. The winning teams were:-

1st - S. Ogden, A. Ogden, P. Ogden, R. Moore, D. Strang 2nd - E . Josephsen, J. Taylor, P. Woods, B. Mc Dermott, B. Mitchell 3rd - K. Kaltenbrunn, H. Kaltenbrunn, M. Fox, I. Conkie, B.
