Istanbul Community Market

The urban area of the city of Istanbul is a varied succession of layers, identity, passes and stories more or less elusive that have left deep prints in the cultural way of life. This has generated a sort of Babel of horizontal relationships, created an obvious contamination often between different activities (synonym) business and the way of life the public space, in a continuous overlapping of ways, disciplines and activities. The streets, the alleys, take on the meaning of urban room, a place of exchanges, passage, they are the extent to which human relations take place. The limit does so in a context of active and implies a certain precariousness, in a constant dialogue between the parties. The interactions of the steps on the sidewalks, the merchant odor next to the seller of fabrics. The barber, the oven, the house. The direct relationship that the city has with the topography of the land and the community is at the origin of all its languages. The line along which things happen.

The design choice were made with the constant of these considerations, the architecture of a market where the public space predominates on one border, the wall, which limit the presence of the proposed functions.

The project space is so contained in a strip where all the programms are located compressed by the public space. As in Istanbul, the exchanges, works take place into that programmatic strip and extend themselves into the public space present inside the building. The purpose of insering the public space into the market is to open it to the city, to make of this building not only a market but a place of shares, cultures, events, business, creations and meetings. That’s why the project is oriented around a big patio that can be used for differents types of events and approprite by the people. In this building, the market is the base for making a place for the city and his inhabitants, it is a place where the city enters in and where the people acts like in the streets.
