Dear Readers, I hope this new season finds you all in good spirits, rejuvenated, and eager to embrace the inspiring stories this issue has to offer. The bond of family is profoundly deep, and when it’s combined with passion, creativity, and an unwavering entrepreneurial spirit, it becomes irresistibly magnetic. Her principles, teachings, and life stories remain the foundation upon which M6C is built. It’s an honor to present the story of these sisters, who, with grace and tenacity, are establishing a significant presence in the world of events, crafting, and beyond. Special thanks to Ms. Rumonda D. Adams and Kimberly L. Thomas for contributing their inaugural articles to this issue. MAKEUP AND MEDS: FINDING THE BALANCE BETWEEN TWO PASSIONS By: Gabrielle J. Williams Creativity has been in my veins from a young age. I had quite the imagination. But what I did not know was where that imagination would lead me. The beginning of my makeup artistry journey started in the summer of 2009. I had just finished my junior year of college at Alabama State University. Instead of attending summer school, I was home recovering from foot surgery. With limited mobility, I only had a few options for entertainment: television or the internet. I found myself becoming heavily interested in makeup tutorials on YouTube. Unlike today, there were only a handful of makeup artists and influencers doing makeup tutorials online. One makeup artist caught my attention, Jackie Aina. I loved that she was a woman of color. I credit Jackie for the makeup techniques I learned, including filling and shaping eyebrows. I was able to thank her on Instagram years later. I didn’t own any makeup or brushes at the time, so I used my mother’s Fashion Fair cosmetics for practice. She was the first person who let me practice on her and later assisted me on wedding appointments. Once I returned to school,
I devoted my free time to learning more about makeup applications. I went to Barnes & Nobles and bought “The Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual.” At the time, Jackie Aina was working as a MAC makeup artist, so she frequently used their products in her tutorials. That’s how I transitioned from Fashion Fair to MAC Cosmetics. I began building a makeup kit. Being a college student, I had to be resourceful about building and growing a kit on a budget. Makeup is expensive. I would buy eyeshadow palettes that came in multiple colors. I recycled my empty MAC containers to get a free lipstick. I bought drugstore foundations in many shades and purchased brush rolls with various types of brushes. I practiced my skills on my roommate, friends, and other girls in the dorm. I also helped a high school senior with her prom makeover. By the time I graduated and moved back to Georgia in 2010, I was eager to pursue my makeup artistry more seriously. I dedicated time to perfecting my craft, continuing to learn from YouTube and trying to replicate makeup looks I saw on celebrities and other makeup artists. I even won a contest for a makeup artist who wanted to see who could
PAGE 10 | MEGA6CREATIONS
best replicate one of her looks. That same year, I began building my social media presence. I posted my work in a separate album on my personal Facebook page and started another album called “Faces of the Day,” where
I would share a different makeup look I wore each day. Keeping up with this was challenging, especially since I had begun an 8-month pharmacy technician program, a career I’ve
pursued for the past 11 years. However, once my work gained visibility on Facebook, I received comments and messages requesting makeup appointments. But I wasn’t prepared. I had no set prices or business structure. I devised a pricing plan, keeping fairness in mind. As a beginner, I didn’t want to overcharge. My starting price for a full face was only $25, and a mini makeover was $20. I hadn’t named my artistry, so I adopted the name “Blessed Faces.” I chose this because I felt God blessed me with this gift to bless others. I made business cards and began booking appointments. Most of these were conducted at my parents’ house, or I would travel to the client’s location. I felt that 2013 was a landmark year for makeup. It was my most creative year, and I began to feel truly confident in my craft. The prevalent makeup styles were bold, vibrant, and colorful. I was enamored with bold lipsticks and colorful eyeshadow palettes. I loved adding rhinestones and glitter to my looks. I once crafted a look where I drew false eyes on my lids, mimicking a “Bratz” doll when I closed them. I also tried ombre lips, which remain popular. Around then, I started posting mini tutorials on Instagram with background music. I decided to rebrand, changing from
FALL 2023 | PAGE 11
“Blessed Faces” to “Makeup by DaGabs.” Under this new moniker, I revived my blog, “Makeup and Meds,” showcasing my makeup styles and pharmaceutical expertise, and launched a new Instagram page as an online portfolio. This made it easier for people to quickly access my work. From 2013-2019, I provided makeup services for numerous events, including weddings, photoshoots, graduations, proms, homecomings, birthdays, special occasions, and more across Atlanta, surrounding areas, and in various states. However, 2020 brought challenges.
The pandemic was tough for makeup artists, especially in light of the emerging Covid-19 threat. While most of the world paused, I was an essential worker, dispensing medications. I didn’t take any makeup appointments. The necessity of distancing ourselves meant being careful about personal interactions. Still, I continued posting makeup looks on social media to keep my creativity alive. The lockdown allowed me time for several DIY projects, one of which was creating flower wall backdrops. Unable to have professional photos taken for my birthday, I designed my backdrop, effectively bringing the photoshoot to me. Many were impressed when they learned I created the backdrop. It was a project that significantly alleviated my stress during that period. Creativity, I believe, helps manage stress. It redirects our focus. Not only can I now apply makeup, but I also can enhance my portfolio with these flower wall backdrops, offering a delightful atmosphere for appointments. I truly enjoy creating them.
In a way, I’m grateful for the pandemic’s impact. Before wearing masks became mandatory, I donned a full face of makeup to work, calling it my “walking advertisement.” This meant waking up extra early. Now, I only apply brows, liner, and mascara, allowing me a bit more sleep. I’ve shifted my focus to skincare and maintaining a healthy routine. Last year, I battled hormonal acne and acne scarring. Merely concealing it wasn’t a solution. So, I started using a quality cleanser with Vitamin E oil and dermatologist recommended Adapalene gel. I also prioritized keeping my face moisturized. Between July and October, I noticed a substantial improvement in my skin, with fewer breakouts. I’ve grown comfortable in my skin, recognizing that it’s fine to occasionally forgo makeup. I want my clients and future clients to feel the same, understanding that makeup enhances the beauty we already have. I’m fortunate to have shared my creative gift with so many over the years. I value this journey. While I might not have achieved the same level of success as some other makeup artists, I trust that my gift will continue to open doors and lead me to wonderful opportunities. I’m thankful to have the chance to change and elevate lives through a one-hour experience. Recently, I’ve started offering lessons on basic makeup techniques. It’s my way of giving back, aiming to introduce and educate women about makeup just as I was introduced, igniting a passion. CREATIONS Behind The Success dreams into reality. By pooling our unique specialties and resources and working collaboratively as a professional team with God as our guide, we realized our potential is boundless. Our ultimate dream is to establish a mega event and business center focused on providing quality event planning services and personalized custom-made products to our communities and the world. Upon our father’s passing, our mother assumed the role of jack of all trades. From her, we inherited strength, resilience, vitality, creativity, and resourcefulness, among other qualities. She cultivated in us a passion for ourselves and others, a love for cooking, cleaning, crafting, and an appreciation for the aesthetic beauty of our home and environment. Most importantly, she instilled in us a deep love for the one true and living God from a very tender age. Over time, our talents became evident as we planned and executed numerous family occasions and special celebrations for our relatives, friends, and colleagues.
These included adult and children’s birthday parties, weddings, engagements, graduations, baby showers, office parties, and interior decorating for both our homes and those of friends. These experiences allowed us to hone our unique crafting and creative skills. Our greatest reward has always been the expressions of joy and appreciation from those who enjoyed our creations. Consequently, more people began seeking our event planning services. This inspired us to merge our talents and passions to establish Mega 6 Creations and introduce it to the world. It offers us an avenue to use our God-given gifts to serve a broader audience. Regrettably, the advent of COVID-19 impeded our progress, causing delays in our business plan’s execution. However, we believe in God’s perfect timing. Now is our moment to unite and progress as a team, with faith and trust in God to guide our business towards resounding success.

CAMILLE MORRISON: Camille, a
Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), harbors a love for cooking, baking, and cake decorating. When not healing her patients, she’s in the kitchen, creating specialized dishes, cakes, pastries, and other themed desserts. Like Sharon, Camille’s creativity extends to crafting centerpieces and interior decorating. With experience from planning
and decorating numerous parties for her family and church, she infuses M6C with a rich tapestry of ideas and is the lead interior designer and decorator for M6C’s New Jersey branch.

Additionally, her knitting skills have catered to numerous client orders, ranging from hats to sweaters.
Dr. SHARLENE JOHNSON, PT, DPT: Sharlene, a Physical Therapist,
specializes in crafting unique products. When not attending to patients, she’s crafting in her workshop, producing specialized t-shirts, tumblers, resin crafts, and embroidered items. She also creates keepsakes from event materials, ensuring memories last. With an eye for interior design, Sharlene often spearheads orders requiring balloon art, ensuring client events are memorable.

Indeed, each of the sisters excels as cooks, party planners, and decorators—a legacy inherited from their mother, who dedicated years to planning and hosting birthday parties for her 10 children. Adhering to their shared motto, “Nothing reaches a customer without the unanimous approval of all six sisters,” they prioritize collaboration, ensuring excellence and punctuality for every event, big or small. Blending the distinctive strengths of six unique personalities isn’t without its challenges. Yet, the sisters remain grounded in the understanding that their venture’s success hinges on a strong foundation, with divine guidance steering their course. Drawing inspiration from their mother’s wisdom, deeply anchored in her faith, the sisters remember two key lessons: to treat others with the same kindness and respect they wish for themselves, and to speak with caution, as words, once uttered, cannot be taken back and may sow discord. While adhering to these principles can be challenging, they serve as a guiding compass in their shared journey. Their mother’s unwavering faith, which empowered her to single-handedly raise a family of ten, inspires the sisters. They harness this profound legacy and faith as they navigate the world of business and entrepreneurship, pooling their talents in pursuit of their shared vision.

SHARON JOHNSON Crafting Beauty In Adversity Can you recall a pivotal moment when your unique skills significantly influenced a Mega6Creations project? • My niece’s wedding was the first major project for Mega6Creations for which we had the opportunity to advertise and showcase our business. I was responsible for creating all the bridesmaids’ bouquets, flower girls’ baskets, boutonnières, and I was the lead person in charge of the decorations. My pivotal moment came when I was challenged to make a brooch bouquet for the bride, which I had never done before. However, in August of 2018, while planning for this memorable and exciting occasion, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was uncertain as to whether I would be able to uphold my commitment, with this focal shift of battling my health, doctors’ consults, surgical procedures, chemotherapy, radiation, and fear of the un-
known, because I witnessed my sister suffer through her chemotherapy. However, I had an encounter with the Lord on 12/5/18, and He led me to read 1 Samuel 17 on David and Goliath. When I got to verse 47, it confirmed all the prayers I received that morning that “the battle is not mine; it’s the Lord’s.” There was a peace that came over me with that reassurance that the Lord is with me. He said, “You have to be courageous like David. Because of David’s faith and trust in Me, he was able to defeat that giant. And that giant you are facing, I will defeat it for you. The battle is not yours; it’s mine.” That morning, God dried my tears and clothed me with peace, courage, and strength, and I felt His presence throughout my entire healing process. I was able to complete everything I had to do for my niece’s wedding, and the Lord infused
FALL 2023 | PAGE 25
creative thought and wisdom in me to make my first brooch bouquet, which came out beautifully and was a perfect match for the bride’s dress. I was happy to see the joy and excitement I brought to my niece’s face, and that’s what I strive for with every bride. The brooch bouquet became one of my signature pieces, and I received many orders. To God be the glory, great things He has done. What advice would you offer to siblings contemplating the joint pursuit of a business venture? • My advice to siblings contemplating the joint pursuit of a business venture is to firstly set goals, identifying what they want to accomplish. Establish a business plan, which is the foundation of the business. It’s a roadmap on how to structure, run, and grow your new enterprise. Set expectations ahead in writing. Know the strengths of every sibling. Determine how much money is needed to start the business. Decide on how the shares are to be divided. Employ a bookkeeper to keep all records in order. Open a business bank account. Have God at the center of your business. Proverbs 16:3 states, “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” Moreover, “In his heart, a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” Ensure unity in vision, be good listeners, respect others’ opinions, and then come to a common agreement on goals. Reflecting on your journey with Mega6Creations, how has the experience enriched your relationships with your sisters on both personal and professional fronts? • We are a close-knit family, always supportive of one another, and we know each other’s shortcomings, which makes our unity as sisters strong. This propels us to pursue our dream of having a business that amalgamates all of our unique skills and gifts. However, on a professional level, we respect everyone’s area of expertise and allow that person to lead in their respective area, with our help and honest critique, to achieve a positive outcome.
Looking ahead, what is your vision for Mega6Creations in the coming years, and how do you envision the evolution of the business under your collective guidance? • My vision for Mega6Creations is that God will expand our territory, enabling us to establish event centers in GA, NJ, and NY for all occasions. These centers would provide enough space for us to have a work area for our projects, showcase our products, and to sell our creative arts. I also envision space for our children who have a business mindset. Furthermore, I see Mega6Creations showcasing its products online on platforms like Etsy and Amazon to capture the global audience. As for me, when I retire, I want to see myself in full bloom as an Event Planner and designer with Mega6Creations. I have had the challenge of raising two boys as a single parent. Kempton Rodney, the oldest, is 41 years old and is an Assistant Vice President at a bank, and Claude Johnson, 29 years old, is an Occupational Therapist Assistant. Kempton is married to Mitchelle, and they have two beautiful grandchildren: Aiyanna, 15, and Sahvanna, 5. I am from Guyana in South America and worked with the Supreme Court as a Registry Officer. However, in 1988, I relocated to the USA. Outside of Mega6Creations, I am a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) with a passion for the geriatric population, orthopedics, and neurology patients. I am a member of Greater Community Church of God under the powerful leadership of Bishop Mathew Brown. I am honored to be part of the music ministry under the leadership of the phenomenal music minister, Sharon Jackson. I also serve as a Member Care Coordinator and a member of the Developing Hope Ministry, where single women encourage and support each other. My hobbies are interior decoration, crafting, music, singing, gardening, and more music. Crafting takes me to a place of peace, and God infuses all the creative ideas for my DIY projects for weddings, home decorations, parties, and whatever I lay my hands to do. I thank God for that gift. I am presently enrolled with the Institute of Wedding Event Design pursuing my studies as an Accredited Event Designer to further enhance my skills.

LOIS JOHNSON Crafting Excellence Using Technology with Patience and Purpose
Can you recall a pivotal moment when your unique skills significantly influenced a Mega6Creations project? • Mega6Creations took on the challenge of planning our niece’s wedding as a means to advertise our skills and gain experience in organizing a large event together. I embraced the task of crafting her program in the form of a fan. Venturing beyond the conventional two and three-fold programs was a new experience for me. Creating the fan demanded patience and precision, but the final product was exceptional. What advice would you offer to siblings contemplating the joint pursuit of a business venture?
•
My advice to other siblings contemplating tEntering into business as siblings can be potentially disastrous, carrying a high risk of permanently damaging relationships. Therefore, the decision to partner should be approached with caution. Initiating meetings to communicate openly about strengths, weaknesses, and defining each person’s role is essential. Everyone should understand that success in a partnership demands hard work, sacrifices, and mutual cooperation. Profit distribution and partner payments must be unanimously agreed upon. Never make assumptions based solely on familial ties. Ensure all terms are documented in a written agreement that’s signed by every partner. Mutual respect, open communication,
FALL 2023 | PAGE 29
and honesty is vital. Address any concerns promptly and openly to maintain harmony. If the siblings lack financial expertise, consider hiring a bookkeeper. Maintaining accurate financial records is crucial for business longevity. Above all, with God at the center, mutual respect, and conscious word choice, unity, love, and understanding can prevail even in challenging times. Prayer should permeate meetings and all business activities. The goal is to use God’s gifts to bless others; He’s the force that facilitates success, forgiveness, and progression. Reflecting on your journey with Mega6Creations, how has the experience enriched your relationships with your sisters on both personal and professional fronts? • Reflecting on your journey with Mega6Creations, how has the experience enriched your relationships with your sisters on both personal and professional fronts? o Personally, my journey with Mega6Creations has taught me greater patience and tolerance towards my sisters. o Professionally, my admiration and love for them have intensified, seeing their commitment, creativity, and dedication in their respective roles. Hence, I got the opportunity to make my whiskey barrel cake, which earned me the title of ‘Cake Boss’. What advice would you offer to siblings contemplating the joint pursuit of a business venture? • Every business must have a vision and a business plan. With that in mind, my advice would be to consider these two very important aspects of the business. Siblings should ask themselves if they
are truly willing to commit and envision where they see themselves in the future as business owners. The answers to these questions will greatly assist individuals. Reflecting on your journey with Mega6Creations, how has the experience enriched your relationships with your sisters on both personal and professional fronts? • I was able to appreciate the unique God-given talents of each sibling, observing their individual strengths on both personal and business fronts.their commitment, creativity, and dedication in their respective roles. After tasting my cake, she said, “Michelle, this is what I was looking for; this is a Guyanese black cake.” It was a joy to see the smile and excitement I brought to Dian and her fiancé. I was very nervous knowing this would be my first wedding cake, but Dian had confidence in me and insisted I make her cake. She was so pleased and to this day, she always tells
me how outstanding my cake was and how it made her dream come true. Dian’s family and friends were all extremely happy with the taste and design of her cake and dessert table. However, a pivotal moment came six months ago when I discovered my passion for creating resin art. I’ve been using it to make rings, chains, bracelets, keychains, and other memorabilia items. After my mom passed away, we wanted to preserve her memory. My daughter and nieces suggested making jewelry with flowers from her funeral. I embraced the challenge, educated myself on resin art, and created jewelry items with my mom’s flowers for my nieces and siblings. Seeing the joy it brought to my family inspired me
to add this skill set to M6C, aiming to bring smiles to customers who wish to preserve memories of their loved ones or commemorate special occasions.\ What advice would you offer to siblings contemplating the joint pursuit of a business venture? • Approach your business venture as exactly that – a business. CHECKLIST TO PLANNING THE VALUE OF HIRING
By Christi Planning an event? Think of it as a delightful puzzle. There’s that initial spark of an idea – a vision of what you want. Then come the pieces, each detail adding to the bigger picture. The world of events is always evolving. It’s no longer just about gathering; it’s about crafting experiences that linger. As you wade through choices and decisions, our checklist will be your steady guide. Whether you’re a seasoned planner or new to the game, the mantra remains: planning with precision paves the way for success. Ready to get started? 1. Define Your Event Objectives: • Purpose: What is the goal of your event? Is it a fundraiser, a product launch, or a celebration? • Outcome: What do you want attendees to take away from the event? Knowledge, a memorable experience, or a new connection? 2. Draft a Budget: • Determine the total amount you’re willing to spend. • Allocate specific amounts to different segments (e.g., venue, catering, entertainment). 3. Choose the Perfect Date and Time: • Consider any holidays or major events in your locale. • Ensure the date doesn’t clash with other events targeting a similar audience. •
4. Select the Venue: • Ensure it aligns with your event’s theme and accommodates the number of attendees. • Consider accessibility, parking options, and necessary amenities. 5. Food & Beverage Arrangements:: • Decide on the type of food and drinks. • Consider dietary restrictions and preferences. 6. Schedule Entertainment or Speakers: • Choose relevant entertainers, keynote speakers, or panelists. • Confirm their availability and any special requirements. 7. Coordinate Technical Aspects: • Assess the need for microphones, projectors, lighting, and sound systems. • Ensure a backup plan for any technical glitches. 8. Marketing & Invitations: • Develop promotional materials like flyers, email campaigns, or social media posts. • Track RSVPs or ticket sales. 9. Setting the Ambiance: • Define the vibe – be it elegant, festive, or professional. • Organize appropriate décor, signage, and any special installations.

ine C. Thomas 10. Emergency Preparedness: • Prepare a “Plan B” for potential hiccups, like weather disruptions for outdoor events. • Ensure first aid and emergency contacts are on hand. The Value of Hiring an Event Planner: While the checklist offers a roadmap, the sheer volume of tasks can be daunting. This is where an event planner comes into play. They bring expertise, vendor connections, and a seasoned ability to
handle contingencies. With them at the helm, you can focus on the broader vision while they iron out the details, ensuring your event isn’t just successful, but also stress-free for you. Remember, while you lay down the foundation with this checklist, an event planner provides the finesse, elevating your event from good to outstanding. So, as you embark on this event planning journey, consider the added touch of a professional – it might just be the secret ingredient to your event’s success.

FREE YOURSELF by Rumonda D. Adams There has been a time in some of our lives when we have faced some form of wrongdoing done to us by others. Whether it be a loved one, friend, or perhaps someone we don’t even know. However, no one wants their feelings hurt or toyed with, but it happens. When someone hurts us, we may feel angry, disappointed, and some may even contemplate revenge. But we all know, and for those who don’t, vengeance is not ours (Romans 12:19-21, Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[a] says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head. 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good). There are many people walking around today, harboring negative feelings towards others because of what someone has done to them. I know this for a fact because I myself did this same thing to a loved one. I actually told the person that they were forgiven, and at that time I truly thought that I had totally forgiven them. Although saying “it’s okay” or “I forgive you” is the right thing to say/do, you have to mean it truly and wholeheartedly. I wasn’t nasty to the person, but my energy could have possibly sparked some negative vibes when they came around, depending on my mood. As time passed (months and months), I noticed myself becoming bitter and angry about the situation because they never tried to reconcile or fix it. I had to turn to the Lord in honesty and truth and tell Him that I was still angry. I then went to my family member and shared my feelings with them as well, and we were able to discuss
the issue. I then felt free; getting that weight off my shoulders was relieving. I knew I had to express my feelings because my mind would not let me escape them. If most people would be more honest and have empathy for others, they might do what is right by apologizing and asking for forgiveness. Unfortunately, many people don’t and won’t. You have to free yourself from the bondage they will leave you in if you do not forgive them for their faults towards you. No one is exempt; we must forgive others as our Lord has forgiven us (Matthew 6:14, For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you). There are many benefits to reap from forgiving: less stress, mental stability, healthier relationships, blessings, freedom, helping you heal, and living a better life, to name a few. Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself and is necessary. Forgiveness is not a one-sided scenario here. We all have feelings and most of the time we are very aware if we’ve also caused someone else harm from our acts of possible selfishness. Now, if you’ve done wrong to others, this also applies to you. You must apologize and fix the situation as best you can. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Matthew 7:12, So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets). Don’t be left in bondage, I’m Just Saying (IJS)! PEACE AND BLESSINGS!

You Were Called For A Time Like This by
Kimberly L. Thomas, M.A. The words “Force,” “Equip,” “Direction,” and “Prosperity” are not just terms, but potent symbols of action, preparation, purpose, and success. Their weight carries the potential to invoke a multitude of emotions and ambitions within us. But the question is, what do they signify to you personally? Many of us have been in that daunting space, hovering on the brink of decision, filled with trepidation, and grappling with the uncertainties of the future. The very fact that an idea or aspiration has been persistently tugging at your heartstrings is not mere coincidence—it’s a clarion call. It’s a signal, hinting that perhaps, just perhaps, now is the time for you to step into the limelight, to take that leap. You might wonder, ‘Why me? Why now?’ That business idea you’ve been mulling over, that hair care brand you’ve been considering reviving, or that law firm you’ve dreamt of launching could potentially be filling a gap, addressing a need, or igniting hope in someone’s life. Your unique voice, perspective, and skills are the exact components someone out there is waiting for. Of course, it’s no secret that the world today is fraught with challenges. Whether it’s socio-economic shifts, technological advancements, or evolving cultural landscapes, the hurdles can seem endless. Yet, it’s crucial to reframe our mindset. Instead of viewing these challenges as insurmountable barriers, perceive them as avenues that can pave the way for innovation, resilience, and growth. After all, diamonds are formed under pressure.
Moreover, time isn’t just a fleeting concept that slips through our fingers; it encapsulates the essence of life’s various stages. Just as nature has its cycles—spring follows winter, day turns to night—our lives too ebb and flow through different seasons. Some seasons demand action, while others require reflection. It’s imperative to gauge which season you find yourself in now. What do those around you require? How can you serve, inspire, and contribute? However, as you embark on this journey, remember to harbor a sense of self-compassion. In a world that often demands perfection, it’s easy to forget our own worth. But you, with all your dreams, ambitions, flaws, and strengths, are deserving. Deserving of respect, love, and kindness—both from others and, most importantly, from yourself. At its core, it’s not solely about business endeavors, brand reboots, or fresh startups. It revolves around acknowledging your inherent worth, navigating life’s ebbs and flows, and realizing that you, indeed, have a distinct place in this grand journey we call life. So, take a deep breath, muster your courage, and step forward. The world isn’t just a passive observer; it’s an eager audience, waiting with bated breath for you to unveil your potential and carve your niche. Remember, this very moment, this very juncture, is beckoning you because “You Were Called for A Time Like This.” Seize it.

THE GRACE TO LET GO
PAGE 74 | MEGA6CREATIONS
One early morning in August 2023, I was involved in a car accident, which required replacing the rear quarter of my car. The body shop gave me a cost estimate and my insurance company said I’d have a rental car for about three weeks. I trusted their word, as it was the only accident, I’d ever been in. I’d had my car for almost 10 years, and it held sentimental value. It was the first car I ever owned, and it had been through so many life changes with me. It never broke down or caused any major issues. Nevertheless, I started feeling ready for something new with less rust and damage. I planned to get another car within a year or two, alongside my current one, and expected the funds for that to come through my working hard and saving up or ideally my coming into a lump sum of money. However, I was surprised when the insurance company informed me that my car was totaled. In fact, I told the lady from the insurance company that the damage cost twice as much as the original estimate. She kindly informed me that these things happen because the body shop didn’t know how much actual damage happened until they dismantled the car; hence, it being called an “estimate.” I would now have to return the rental car earlier than expected. Initially, I was confused because my timeline was way off. I had made up my mind that I was going to drop my car off, have it fixed in about two weeks and when I got my car back, I would pay my deductible and move on about my business. Because I had never been in an accident before, I didn’t really have the framework to consider this possibility ahead of time – but this situation turned out to be an even better, unexpected blessing. The insurance payout was substantial, enough to buy a used car and have money left over. However, when I went to pick up the few remaining items from my car, and saw it taken apart, I teared up. In that moment I realized how attached I had become to a vehicle that wasn’t even my dream car. The only way I could get the funds I needed was to let go of my attachment to my Honda Civic. I could have chosen to dwell on all the memories I had with my faithful car, think about all the dreams I had for its future use – but ultimately that would leave me stuck with an undriveable car and little hope for another vehicle. At some point, I simply had to let go – not just naturally but emotionally as well. The sooner I let go, or released, the old, the sooner I could

embrace new possibilities. Oxford Languages defines release as “allow or enable to escape from confinement; set free,” and “allow (something) to move, act, or flow freely.” When you’re going through a challenging time, the phrase “Let it go” can sound like one of the most dismissive things to hear, and it definitely sounds easier said than done. At the same time, it can be beneficial to tap into what is causing the resistance to that phrase. What barriers are truly keeping us from letting go? Once we’ve acknowledged that we need to let go, where is the grace to actually follow through and just do it?
Be Still and Know God’s Character Psalm 46:10 reminds us to “Be still and know that I am God.” Many times, we focus only on the first part of that scripture. We want to be still in meditation, a hot bath, a calm and quiet drive, even sleep. Yet God commands us to take it a step further and acknowledge who He is and His place in our life. Know – as in be sure – that He is God of the Universe. What can we say about His character? Isn’t it a blessing to know that in an ever-changing world, God’s character never switches up on us? We can rest (or be still) in knowing that He is good, all-knowing, all-powerful, loving, honest, dependable, gracious, powerful, and so much more. Because of this, we can trust His Word when He tells us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28, NIV). Even if the situation never changes the way we want, He is still good. By knowing that God is good and who He says He is, we can let go of our will and allow things to flow in the way He desires them to. The verse continues with “I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.” Ultimately, the things that are happening in our lives are to bring God glory. Psalm 84:11 states, “No good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
Some versions say, “…from them that walk with integrity.” If God is asking you to let go of something, it means that it is no longer good for you to hold on to. Furthermore, sometimes He will not give us something until we release something else to Him first, because even though He wants to give us a good thing, He will have us wait until the timing is good for us to have it.
Challenge: Self-Sufficiency and the Desire to be Active or Productive Many times, we want to show God how active or productive we can be in a given situation. What do I need to say or do to get this process going? Therefore, the concept of letting go can feel counterintuitive. You mean to tell me that letting go of the hurt a loved one caused me (forgiveness), rather than trying to plead my case and get them to see how they wronged me can place me in a better position to receive love, live in peace, and experience reconciliation? You mean that receiving God’s love and forgiveness and letting go over years of perfectionism to people please and control other’s views of me can free me to be joyful as my authentic self and not walk on eggshells? Notice how letting go requires receiving rather than striving. That is directly at odds with our prideful nature. Hence, why humility is key.
Humility According to Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” In this scripture, not only is God highlighting how His ways are different from our ways, but He is also making it clear that His ways are infinitely better than ours. We have such a limited view of how things function in the world. We only know what we think and can directly sense and sometimes we struggle to even identify those things; however, God knows every aspect of every single thing on this earth and above, as well as
FALL 2023 | PAGE 77
how it all comes together. Letting go of how we think He should do things allows us to witness Him completely blow our minds.
Challenge: Pride Pride especially comes into play with timelines. We tell God we know better, if not in our words, then through our actions. In our minds, it should take a year of therapy and analyzing the situation for me to be healed of this, when God says He wants to bring you wholeness right now. My dream [insert your desire here] should be here by now, but God knows it needs to take a while longer for us to be mature to handle that thing. Letting go involves not getting attached to any timeline of how quickly or slowly something should take, but rather walking in step with God. This is why, taking each day one at a time is so important.
Take Each Day One at a Time Taking each day one at a time allows us to do what we can do so God can do what only He can do. In other words, we do the possible so that God can do the impossible. Matthew 6:33-34 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” We must let go of the illusion of control. Yes, it is good to reflect on the past to take the lessons learned and see how we can apply them in the future, and of course God honors careful planning (e.g., saving, studying, preparing). Nevertheless, the past has happened, and tomorrow isn’t even promised. Therefore, to think we can control anyone but ourselves or worry ourselves into a new past or certain future is self-deception. According to Oxford Languages, the definition of worry is to “give way to anxiety or unease; allow one’s mind to dwell (live in) on difficulty or troubles.” This sounds like a negative form of letting go – letting go of our peace and joy in exchange for the sorrow that comes from taking matters into
our own hands. We must commit daily to an Isaiah 26:3 mindset: “You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character], Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation]” (Amplified Bible). Taking each day one at a time allows us to be kind to ourselves and gives God space to move in new ways we never imagined.
Challenge: Impatience Sometimes we start to compare ourselves to other’s situations and get upset, angry, annoyed, or restless (anxiety or boredom). Sometimes we are waiting but we’re not waiting well. We say we’ve let go but we’re distracted or still monitoring that “thing” to see if God is really taking care of it. We’re so focused on whether God will do what He said He’ll do that we aren’t even doing the very things God told us to do. This ties back to how we view God’s character. It’s hard to trust or wait for someone you don’t know that well. Imagine waiting on someone who you’re not sure is reliable or giving your money and time to someone who you’re not sure has your best interest at heart. Of course, that’s going to be hard! It’s hard to let go when we don’t view Him as a God who sees us (Genesis 16:13b). If our minds tell us the lie that God doesn’t see us, then we can easily feel like we have no choice but to rely on ourselves and hold on to that thing for dear life. But when we know God, and as we continue to get to know Him, it becomes easier to praise Him and show gratitude for Him giving us the option to let go. Gratitude helps us to wake up and go to bed thanking and praising God for those things related to our letting go. When we reflect on the goodness of God each day it bolsters our faith for what is to come, especially since we often don’t know what comes next after letting go. Here’s an example of thanking God while letting go: God, I thank you for seeing me. I thank you that I don’t have to hold on to [insert

whatever God desires for you to let go] any longer. Thank you for the strength to let go of that and hold on to you and your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Ultimately, we must release our expectations and put our hope in God - not in things and people who are bound to disappoint us. We can release the expectations shaped by our past, family, environment, hurt, society, lies of the enemy, etc., welcome God to renew our minds, and receive His best: “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21). Here are some areas we need to let go of so that God can do a new thing: • • •
• • •
Let go of trying to prove ourselves. Let the old version of people (including ourselves) go so we can see them clearly and the way God sees them. Let go of the confining labels that we have taken on and that others have given us (e.g., personality type, attachment style, past sins, mistakes). Let go of shame so that you can receive God’s love and forgiveness. Let go of unrealistic expectations of self and others. Let go of the who, what, when, where, why and how. (“When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen” - Isaiah 60:22).
Going back to my story at the beginning about my totaled car: Even though the insurance company and I had a thorough conversation about my needing to give my car and title in exchange for the funds, they called back and told me that the body shop needed a Verbal Release from me. How many of us have done everything else but let go through prayer? We’ve thought about it, gossiped about it with friends, analyzed it and researched it. But now is the time to tell God “I surrender. I release this to you and let go. I trust you. I trust that you are good, and your plans are good for me.”
So, if the title is “The Grace to Let Go,” then where is the grace in all of this? Pastor John Piper describes grace well: “It is incredibly encouraging that God’s grace is both the inclination of the divine heart to treat us better than we deserve and is the extension of that inclination in practical help.” In other words, we experience God’s grace to let go by knowing His character (He is a good God, so if He tells us to let go then it’s for our good, even when we can’t see how) and receiving His power to be still, humble ourselves, take each day one day at a time, express gratitude; fight self-sufficiency, pride, and impatience; and ultimately let go through prayer and praise - even when we don’t think we have the strength to do so. Reflection Questions: 1. What is God telling me to release? (Is it a person, routine, mindset, habit, mistake, belief, emotion, idols, etc.?) 2. From what do you need to release yourself? 3. In what ways can I see the grace of God to let go? 4. What does my choice to not let go say about how I view God? Be honest about these thoughts. Study scriptures that remind you of the truth of who God is. 5. How does my letting go give God glory? Sources: • • •

TS OF AN URIAL SPIRIT Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur with a history of navigating challenges or a newcomer ready to plunge into the business world, there exists a shared mindset among many successful business leaders. In examining these 12 essential traits, we also seek inspiration from iconic entrepreneurs whose enduring legacies have significantly shaped the landscape of commerce. 1. Visionary Thinking: Picture Your Success Entrepreneurs are dreamers with the remarkable ability to envision what others may not yet see. Their minds are canvases on which they paint the future, often turning abstract ideas into tangible reality. Their vision acts as the North Star, a constant guide that keeps them on course even in the darkest of storms. Think about Richard Branson, the charismatic founder of the Virgin Group. From music and airlines to space travel, Branson’s visionary thinking knows no bounds. He saw opportunities where others saw limitations. When he started Virgin Atlantic, he imagined an airline that would redefine air travel, and today, Virgin Atlantic is known for its innovative customer service and entertainment offerings.
2. Risk-Taking: Dare to Dream Big In the world of entrepreneurship, risk is a companion, not an adversary. Entrepreneurs understand that calculated risks are
the stepping stones to the grandest achievements. They don’t dance recklessly on the precipice of uncertainty, but they do leap when they see an opportunity worth pursuing. Elon Musk, the genius behind companies like SpaceX and Tesla, epitomizes risk-taking. He has invested billions in space exploration and electric vehicles, ventures that seemed audacious at the time. Musk’s willingness to take calculated risks paid off, and he is now one of the most influential figures in technology and space exploration.
3. Resilience: Bounce Back Stronger Entrepreneurship is not for the faint-hearted. It’s a marathon with many hurdles, and setbacks are not exceptions but expectations. Yet, entrepreneurs don’t break under the weight of adversity; they bend and bounce back stronger, turning failures into the raw material for future triumphs. Oprah Winfrey, a media mogul and philanthropist, faced numerous setbacks in her early career. Despite being fired from her first job as a news anchor, she persevered, building her own media empire. Oprah’s resilience and unwavering belief in herself turned her into a household name and a role model for many.
4. Adaptability: Flexibility is Key In a business world that constantly evolves, adaptability is not just an asset; it’s a necessity. Successful entrepreneurs embrace change, pivot their strategies, and thrive in

ever-shifting environments. They are the chameleons of the business world, blending seamlessly with their surroundings. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is known for his adaptability. He started Amazon as an online bookstore, but he quickly recognized the potential for expansion. Today, Amazon is a global e-commerce giant offering a vast array of products and services. Bezos’s ability to pivot and adapt to changing markets has been a driving force behind Amazon’s success.
5. Passion: Ignite the Fire Within Passion is the secret fuel that propels many entrepreneurial success stories. It’s the fire that burns through the late nights and sustains through the stormy days. Entrepreneurs are not just passionate about their ideas; they are on a mission to share their zeal with the world, and that infectious enthusiasm often attracts others to join their cause. Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Inc., was known for his unwavering passion for design and innovation. His passion was contagious, and it fueled the creation of groundbreaking products like the iPhone and the iPad. Jobs’s dedication to his vision revolutionized multiple industries.
6. Problem-Solving Skills: Challenges are Opportunities
Strong Work Ethic: Dedication Pays Off Entrepreneurship demands more than just nine-to-five commitment. Entrepreneurs are known for their unwavering dedication, their readiness to toil relentlessly, and their understanding that overnight success often results from years of hard work. Warren Buffett, one of the world’s most successful investors, is known for his incredible work ethic. He spends hours every day studying and analyzing investment opportunities. His dedication to his craft has made him one of the wealthiest individuals globally, showcasing the power of hard work.

8. Initiative: Create Your Destiny
Entrepreneurs are natural puzzle solvers. They don’t cower when faced with challenges; instead, they see them as enigmatic opportunities waiting to be cracked. They thrive on dissecting problems, finding innovative solutions, and turning obstacles into stepping stones.
Entrepreneurs don’t wait for opportunities; they create them. They are proactive, unafraid to take the first step, and adept at carving paths where none existed before. Their initiative turns mere dreams into thriving businesses.
Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx, is a problem-solving extraordinaire. Frustrated by the lack of comfortable shapewear for women, she took matters into her own hands and created Spanx. Her innovative solution to a common problem led to a multi-billion-dollar business.
Indra Nooyi, the former CEO of PepsiCo, is a prime example of someone who took the initiative. She joined PepsiCo when it was primarily a snack and beverage company. Nooyi recognized the shift toward healthier options and spearheaded the acquisition of brands like Tropicana and Quaker Oats to position the company for the changing market.

9. Networking Skills: Building Bridges Building a valuable network is crucial in the entrepreneurial world. Entrepreneurs are skilled networkers who can connect with mentors, collaborators, potential customers, and industry experts. These relationships often provide critical insights, resources, and support. Mark Zuckerberg, the co-fo-under of Facebook, excels at building connections. He transformed a dorm room project into the world’s largest social media platform by fostering relationships with talented engineers, entrepreneurs, and investors. Zuckerberg’s networking skills have been instrumental in Facebook’s growth.
10. Financial Acumen: Master Your Finances Sound financial management is the backbone of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs have a solid understanding of budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning. They make informed financial decisions that ensure the stability and growth of their ventures. Warren Buffet, again, stands as an example of financial acumen. His deep understanding of financial markets and investments allowed him to make strategic decisions that consistently generated significant returns. His ability to master finances is a cornerstone of his success.
11. Customer-Centric Approach: Delight Your Customers Successful entrepreneurs prioritize their customers above all else. They comprehend that success hinges on delivering value, meeting customer needs, and surpassing expectations. This unwavering customer-centric approach builds loyalty and drives business growth. Walt Disney, the visionary behind the Disney empire, always placed customers at the center of his business strategy. He aimed to
create magical experiences for families, and this customer-centric approach continues to be the hallmark of Disney’s success.
12. Innovation: Embrace Creativity At the core of entrepreneurship is innovation. Entrepreneurs are perpetual seekers of better ways—better products, better services, and better processes. They are not afraid to challenge conventions and embrace change to remain ahead of the curve. When it comes to innovation in the entertainment industry, few names shine as brightly as Tyler Perry’s. Perry is a multi-talented entrepreneur, playwright, filmmaker, and actor who has redefined the entertainment landscape through his innovative approaches to storytelling, production, and distribution. In 2019, Tyler Perry made history by opening Tyler Perry Studios, a sprawling 330-acre production facility in Atlanta, Georgia. What makes this studio innovative is not just its size but the fact that it is one of the largest and most significant African American-owned film studios in the United States. Perry’s vision was to create a self-sustaining ecosystem for film and television production, reducing the need to rely on traditional Hollywood studios. Tyler Perry Studios is equipped with stateof-the-art soundstages, post-production facilities, and backlots. Perry’s goal was to offer a one-stop shop for filmmakers, providing everything from pre-production to distribution services. By doing so, he has empowered other storytellers, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to bring their creative visions to life.

Be inquisitive about the world around you, especially within your industry or niche. Ask questions, seek knowledge, and stay up-to-date with the latest trends and innovations. Curiosity can spark new ideas and solutions. 2. Develop a Growth Mindset: Adopt a growth mindset, which means viewing challenges and failures as opportunities for learning and growth. Understand that setbacks are a natural part of the entrepreneurial journey. Embrace them, learn from them, and use them as steppingstones toward success. 3. When your work aligns with your passions, it doesn’t feel like work at all. Passion will sustain you through the inevitable challenges. 4. Take Calculated Risks: Entrepreneurship inherently involves risk. However, it’s not about taking reckless chances but making informed decisions. Assess risks carefully, gather data, and consider both the potential rewards and consequences. Courageously step outside your comfort zone when it makes strategic sense. 5. Learn from Role Models: Study the journeys of successful entrepreneurs who inspire you. Understand their strategies, their challenges, and the mindset that drove them to success. solutions and ideas that set your business apart. 8. Set Clear Goals: Establish clear, achievable goals for your business. Goals provide direction and motivation. Break them down into smaller, manageable steps, allowing you to celebrate each milestone along the way. 9. Learn Continuously: The world of business is ever evolving. Stay committed to ongoing learning and self-improvement. This could involve formal education, workshops, reading, or seeking advice from industry experts. 10. Embrace Resilience: Resilience is a key attribute of the entrepreneurial spirit. When facing setbacks, remind yourself why you started this journey. Adapt, pivot, and persevere. Remember that every challenge is an opportunity in disguise. 11. Be Customer-Centric: Focus on delivering value to your customers. Understand their needs, listen to their feedback, and strive to exceed their expectations. A satisfied customer base can become your most valuable asset. 12. Celebrate Small Wins: Don’t wait for major milestones to celebrate. Acknowledge and celebrate even the small achievements along the way. Recognizing your progress will help maintain your motivation and enthusiasm. 13. Trust Yourself: Believe in your abilities and instincts. Trust that you have the creativity, resilience, and determination to overcome obstacles and achieve your goals. Self-confidence is a cornerstone of the entrepreneurial spirit. 14. Maintain Persistence: Finally, remember that entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint. Stay persistent and keep moving forward, even when faced with adversity. Success often comes to those who refuse to give up.
