Last week, I was invited to make a little class/lecture on how you can substitute medicines with essential oils when you travel. It is indeed amazing to discover how much stuff people carry with them during a trip to a foreign country, or even to a different state, here is USA. One lady told me that she was never traveling without antibiotics because she knew that,

I FOUND AN OFFICIAL, MEDICALLY PRESCRIBED LIST OF AUTHORIZED MEDICINES, THE KIND OF PRODUCTS AN ATHLETES CAN RELY ON FOR THE REGULAR PAINS AND BUMPS THAT HE OR SHE MAY EXPERIENCE REGULARLY. HERE IT IS :

This is a pretty short list, but what is much less short is the list of side effects linked to the use of these medicines. It is very easy to find out what such and such product really does on your body (none of it helping you to better perform, that’s for sure).

Here is a sample of what I found, with a few alternatives.

THE SIDE EFFECTS AND THE ALTERNATIVES 1. Zolpidem : “Misuse of this medication can result in dangerous side effects.

Zolpidem may impair your thinking or reactions.”

Zolpidem, better known as Ambien, is for insomnia. I hope it is very efficient!

What about something efficient and harmless such as a little cardiac coherence to calm your heart and a the power of two essential oils: 1. Some cardiac coherence: breathe rhythmically, inhale on 5 counts, exhale on 5 counts, 6 times per minutes, repeat for 5 minutes.

Cardiac coherence naturally balances your pulse, clear your thoughts and induces relaxation, anywhere, anytime.

If you add a little visualization to the breathing, it is even faster: picture yourself spreading on the ground like a piece of butter melting on the beach, under the sun.

Tetrazepam is given to relieve muscle spasms.

To go a little further, apply this little aromatic blend on your chest and forearms prior to the breathing exercise:

Here is a powerful blend for painful muscles.

In 1 tablespoon of base oil (grape seeds, almond, macadamia…) add: 3 drops petit grain orange essential oil (citrus aurantium) 3 drops roman chamomile (anthémis nobilis)

All what muscles need to relax is a good massage with the proper essential oils.

Lets take the same two oils we already use to sleep better, citrus aurantium and anthémis nobilis, and add the very famous Origanum majorana to make a very soothing and tension releasing blend.

In one tablespoon of base oil (if possible infused with arnica and slightly warmed), add 2 drops of each essential oil.

Origanum majorana (Oregano) is a powerful neurotonic that releases muscle aches and stiffness, spasms, neuro-muscular contractions but also useful in case of sprains, strains and arthritis.

Anthemis nobilis is especially used to relieve low back and muscle pain, rheumatism, sprains and inflamed joints.

Anthémis nobilis is a powerful essential oil : it calms the sympathetic nervous system and central nervous system, it is sedative, eases anxiety, neuralgia, oversensitivity, tension, anger, fear, calms the mind.

Citrus aurantium also balances the central nervous system, relieves from nervous exhaustion, mental fatigue, panic. It is sedative, it relaxes muscle spasms of nervous origin, eases palpitations.

2.Tetrazepam : “As a result of the risk of unpredictable, serious skin reactions identified, the CMDh position is that tetrazepam-containing medicines should no longer be used in the EU. In light of the unfavourable benefit-risk balance, doctors should review their patients’ treatment at their next appointment, and may consider an appropriate alternative treatment.”

d Citrus aurantium relaxes spasms, increases muscle tone and eases joint inflammations.

3. Metoclopramide: ‘Taking metoclopramide may cause you to develop a muscle problem called tardive dyskinesia. If you develop tardive dyskinesia, you will move your muscles, especially the muscles in your face in unusual ways. You will not be able to control or stop these movements. Tardive dyskinesia may not go away even after you stop taking metoclopramide. The longer you take metoclopramide, the greater the risk that you will develop tardive dyskinesia. Therefore, your doctor will probably tell you not to take metoclopramide for longer than 12 weeks. The risk that you will develop tardive dyskinesia is also greater if you are taking medications for mental illness, if you have diabetes, or if you are elderly, especially if you are a woman.”

Metoclopramide is for relieving heartburn and speeding the healing of ulcers and sores in the esophagus. It is also prescribed to relieve nauseas (during a chemotherapy).

So, to make it short, if you are a woman, do not take this drug.

You have much safer alternatives…

To relieve heartburn, consider the source: most of the time, we have heartburn because we lack Hydrochloric acid.

Hydrochloric acid is the digestive juice that allows proteins to be pre-digested in our stomach. If you lack this liquid, you cannot digest proteins.

Keep in mind which are the foods that soothe the colon : Bananas, blueberries, raspberries, lemon, carrots, celery, green beans, potatoes, squash, zucchinis, gluten free breads and cereals, rice, oats, polenta, tapioca, lactose free milk and yogurts, goat and cheep hard cheeses, tofu, maple syrup and molasses.

Besides this, you have to consider your stress level and take care of it with some of the essential oils that work on your central nervous system.

Be smart and stop consuming dairy products, hot spices and alcohol to really balance your acid production.

4. Trimebutine is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (spastic colon). “Symptoms such as dry mouth, foul taste, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue or headache may occur.”

Why taking the risk?

Irritable bowel syndrome requires much more attention that taking a medicine, especially when the “medicine” doesn’t cure the problem and may potentially bring you more undesirable symptoms.

FREDERIK VAN LIERDE WON EXTREMAN SALOU 70/3 LAST WEEK-END!

1900M ( 25'38 ) / 90 K (2H26MN ) / 21.2K ( 1H16 ) The second victory of the season is a fact! After Narbonne in France last year, I decided to put another race of the Extreman circuit on my program.

The organization and the quality of their triathlons is top! So this time Salou in Spain.

The swim went smooth, a good run start in the Mediterranian Sea and a 1 loop swim where I was in the lead with Roger Serrano.

After a good transition I pulled away from the beginning of the bike section. No doubt and pushing hard from the start. The first 40km were going up and ended crescendo on an altitude close to 700m! There was a up and down section in the middle of the bike course and the last 30km were false flat downwards. 1 loop, like in Nice, but of course only half of the distance but 1070 meters of climbing! After 40km on the bike the difference was already 6’ to my closest chasers. On the downhill I didn’t take any risks and by T2 I had a 9’ lead to begin the half marathon.

I found a good pace and I was able to control the race by now. The coast line in Salou, that isn’t flat at all, was full of spectators and I enjoyed every moment! I crossed the finish line in 4h11’ with a 7’30” lead over Albert Moreno and 8’30” over Raul Amatriain.

7 weeks to go till Ironman France and I’m really happy with the level I already have wright now. Some hard weeks to come now but this victory will make it easier to handle the hard work that still needs to be done.

ISKAADVENTURE TREK 2013 IskaAdventure trek is the second hike this years competition policy, which took place in the mysterious canyon of Iški Vintgar, Mokrško and Crimean Mountains, and partly by the Ljubljana Marshes. Start and finish were in Iški Vintgar.

The organizer of the match was IškaAdventure Agency in collaboration with Mountain Society Crimea.

Competitors had possibility to choose one of 3 routes: *Active – track lenght approx. 10 km, altitude ascent approx. 500 m *Hiking – lenght of track approx. 20 km, altitude ascent approx. 1000 m *Ultra – track lenght approx. 35-40 km, altitude ascent approx. 1500-2000 m Participants were also in COMPRESSPORT equipment Results IskAAdventure trek 2013 5. |

KRK TREKING 2013 TRAIL RUNNING AROUND THE ISLAND OF KRK (CROATIA) WAS HELD ON SATURDAY 27. APRIL. THE PATH WAS 50 KM OF WELL MARKED. DESPITE THE WEATHER (NOT TOO HANDSOME), THERE WAS A GOOD NUMBER OF RUNNERS.

VETROV TEK

The 5th »Vetrov tek« was held in Ruše, namely the track at 5 km and 10 km. This year, the route was changed slightly. This year there were fewer runners than in previous years, becouse there were also other »bigger« marathons at the same time. Quite a few runners had COMPRESSPORT products. The winner also received a COMPRESSPORT socks.

I was also there to make a presentation of COMPRESSPORT products and some runners decided to buy it.

RMOŠKI MARATON On Sunday, 21. April, was taken the traditional, 12th »ormoški maraton«, which organizes athletics club Ormož. Great attendance, good weather and great athletes make sure, that the marathon will stay in a beautiful memory.

Competitors had a choice of 3 different lenghts of 5 km, 10 km and 21 km. Students of the surrounding elementary schools were competing in running 300, 600 and 1200 meters and the 4x100 relay.

The woman in the photo has made an excellent third place, and she uses COMPRESSPORT products.

A DEBUT WINNING SECOND PLACE 42K

On her first race as member of Team Compressport Colombia, Diana Melo achieved 2nd place during the 42K category of the Merrell Trail Tour 2013 in Guatavita, Colombia. As usual, the beautiful Colombian mountain scenery did not disappoint.

Neither did Diana, with such a great result using her Compressport R2 set. Let this be the first of many triumphs Diana!

Estefanía Gomez We have mentioned Estefania Gomez several times in out weekly news from Colombia, but it’s not our fault when she keeps reaching the podium! Estefania, member of Team Compressport Colombia, achieved second place in the Women Elite category of the First Red Bull Cup “Mariana’a Playground”, a race honoring Colombian 2013 Olympic BMX Medalist Mariana Pajon. 600 BMX athletes showed up at the event held in Belen, Colombia.
