I was recently interviewed by the Premiership Rugby team as part of a series of articles and interviews shining a light on key female figures in the game.
So I wanted to use my programme notes this week to showcase some of my amazing women colleagues working at the club.
Cheryl, Rowena and Emilia all work in differing roles with a mix of experience and I caught up with them to hear a little more about why they love working at the home of Leicester Tigers.
Rowena Myrans
Physiotherapist
“I’ve been a physio for almost a decade and have had the opportunity to work in various sports around the world, including Asia and Europe.
“I joined the Tigers medical team in 2018, which is responsible for providing medical cover to our players throughout their training week as well as on matchdays home and away, and rehabbing our injured players.
“It’s great to be part of the team at Tigers and to be able to contribute to enabling players to perform at the weekend.”
Emilia Higgins
Marketing Executive
“In July 2019, a month after graduating from the University of Strathclyde, I joined Tigers as the Marketing Executive. During my first eight months, my role was focused on developing and co-ordinating a programme of external events and promotional activities.
“This also includes driving the Junior Tigers Club and also creating our matchday buzz with pre-match and postmatch entertainment and specific themed days. In July 2020, my role shifted over to taking the lead on the retail marketing.
“Matchdays are undoubtedly my favourite part of the job and I can’t wait to have the Tigers family back at Mattioli Woods Welford Road soon.”
Cheryl Hill
Groundstaff
“I used to work for Leicester Council, working across sports grounds, and left to join Tigers over 30 years ago and have been here ever since.
“I couldn’t work indoors, I’m an outdoors person. We operate across three rugby pitches at Oval Park training ground, as well as a 3G surface with the dome and the stadium pitch.
“The weather can always prove a challenge with rugby being a winter sport, as we battle the elements. But looking at what the grounds team and I have achieved at the end of each day is very rewarding, and I love working within our team.”
