Nothing beats a Mattioli Woods Welford Road matchday and we cannot wait until we are all together again...

euro news

Mattioli Woods Welford Road hosts another big evening of European club rugby next Friday when Ulster Rugby are the visitors in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup.

Tournament organisers announced a revised format for the knockout rounds after the cancellation of the preliminary stages at the halfway point in both club tournaments, but now it comes down to a straight showdown for a place in the Final next month.

After beating French duo Brive and Bayonne away in the opening two fixtures, Tigers were guaranteed a home draw in the Round of 16 and overcame Connacht there, before beating Newcastle Falcons in the quarter-finals two weeks ago.

After today’s Gallagher Premiership fixture with Northampton Saints, Steve Borthwick’s squad will begin preparations for the club’s ninth European semi-final and a second successive appearance at this stage in the Challenge Cup after meeting Toulon there during 2019-20.

Ulster, of course, have been regular rivals in the Heineken Champions Cup and, like Tigers, are previous European champions.

They started the season in the Champions Cup before entering the Challenge Cup knockout rounds and recorded back-to-back away wins over Gallagher Premiership clubs Harlequins and then Northampton Saints to earn the match-up with Leicester.

The winners will meet either Bath Rugby or Montpellier - who meet next Saturday in the other semi-final - in the Final with the venue to be confirmed.

Tigers versus Ulster is an 8.00pm kick-off next Friday and French official Pascal Gauzère has been appointed as referee.

There is live coverage with BT Sport or you can keep up to date with the Tigers’ Matchday Live and social media pages.
