It’s a little warm for me to get out and lose golf balls, but our course is looking fantastic! Erik Tanner, our golf course maintenance superintendent, and his crew have been working hard and it shows. Since Vision Golf has been managing us, they have been on a mission to thin out and remove hundreds of trees on the edge of the rough. The result has been a wider, more playable course with a whole lot more grass than we had five years ago. This summer they have put up stakes and rope 30 yards out from
Steve Sasser every green to discourage golfers from driving up to the green. You can certainly see a difference in the grass around the greens. Thank you Erik for taking such good care of our course and making it one of the best looking

Report
Submitted by: Rob Wright LFPOA General Manager The 4th of July was spectacular. The weather was warm, clear and perfect. Over 200 members and guests came down to the Yacht Club to view the Mobile fireworks. There was plenty of space for the kids to play, burgers and dogs and lots of adult libations. It was a good time. School will be restarting this month. Please watch for school kids going and coming from the bus stops. A special thanks to the Public Works
Our pools have stayed busy. We’ve had some issues with a stopped up sewer line at Montclair. We’ve had that repaired and hopefully we’ll have smooth sailing through the rest of this swim season. Alabama Pool Works does a great job of keeping the pools and bath houses clean. We still have occasional incidents of people just not doing the right thing. Unfortunately, that’s the way it goes. If you see something going on that should not be, please do us all a favor and call Daphne Police at 621-9100.

department for the additional mile of sidewalk. We appreciate them, our city commissioners and Mayor Dane Haygood, for all that they do for Lake Forest. The pools are open 7
days a week from 8:00 am to 7:00pm. For those who don’t have a pool card please contact the office at 626-0788 to find out how you can get your very own pool access card. The Swim and Racquet pool is also available for private parties. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call me. If there are ever any issues at a pool, please call the Pro Shop at 251621-4728. They know how to contact the appropriate person. The Yacht Club has many family oriented nights and a swing set play area for the kids. The BOGO burger night is huge. It’s a
have made the walk early in the morning several times from the Ridgewood Pool to Montclair, and it’s just over four miles. It is so nice to be able to walk down the hill at Donette Loop, and around that 90 degree turn without worrying about being run over. Many thanks to our city leaders for making this happen! Speaking of our city leaders, it’s election time in Alabama! August 23rd is municipal Election Day. We’ll have our opportunity to vote for our mayor and our council member that represents our district. On Tuesday, August 9th, we’ll host a council candidate forum at the 19th Hole from 6 to 8PM. On Wednesday, August 10th we’ll host a mayoral candidate forum at the 19th Hole from 6 to 8PM. For both of these forums, this will be a good opportunity for the
great deal and a great meal for Lake Forest members. Thursday night is family night, $9.95 all you can eat buffet with salads, entrees and a dessert. Our Thursday buffets range from prime rib, seafood to themed nights like Italian buffet night. We have done 11 weddings since May. Do you have one in your future? If you want it local and professional, call us at the Yacht Club, 6269329. We can help meet all of your weeding/ special event needs. You don’t have to be a golf member to play the golf course. Home owners have special pricing and have been enjoying their course more than ever The course was aerated in the middle of July and has healed, is healthy
candidates to deliver their goals and ideals, and allow residents to ask questions and express concerns. I strongly encourage everyone to come out and talk to the people who will be running our city for the next four years. Please make note that our city voting districts have changed. There’s a map in this news letter that shows the new district lines. We now have four districts that represent different parts of Lake Forest. District 3 will vote at Fire Station #2 on Main Street. Districts 4 & 5 will vote at the Daphne Civic Center. District 6 will vote at Trojan Hall on Champion’s Way and CR 13.
and in great condition. It’s been very hot, so golf has been busy in the morning and wide open in the afternoon. So there are good golf deals but remember to hydrate. As a reminder, summer is a time when work is done on homes and the property. Please remember to check with the Lake Forest Architectural Committee before you do any work. We do allow members to walk on the golf course when the pin flags have been removed. If you see the flags in, do not go on the course, for your own safety. We have a lot of dogs around here. Please be considerate of your neighbors and clean up behind your pet; thank you. Lake Forest has a storage area for boats and
The end of August will also bring the first day of school for Baldwin County Schools. Busses start rolling on Monday the 22nd. That’s terrible news for my kids, but I look forward to a more regular schedule. We’ve got to be on the lookout for kids getting to and from the bus stops. You’ve got to plan ahead to not have to rush. Personally, I’ve got to leave about 15 minutes earlier in the mornings during school to not get caught in bus traffic. I hope you have a great summer. We live in too beautiful of a place not to get outside and enjoy it.
trailers. Remember, unless they're behind a permitted fence, they must be stored off property. The cart paths are open to members whenever the flags have been pulled. That’s early morning, evenings and all day Monday. We do ask that you stay off of the golf course itself, we spray pesticides, chemicals and fertilizers that are caustic and harmful to humans, so please stay on the cart paths.

The Fishing Hole
FISHING SUMMER TIME PATTERNS
By Billy Harrell Harbor Master
July, August, and summer is finally here and the fishing is great. The water temps are in the upper 80’s and finally beginning to clear up in the bay. Strong southern winds have pushed the cloudy water north and brought in some salinity in the upper delta along the Mobile River and Point Clear to Daphne. Specks are scattered out from Point Clear to Daphne and all along the ship channel into the Mobile River. So, try and find some clear water and work the docks and fishing reefs along the bay. Speckled trout and reds will be looking for a quick meal and the best thing for them is a live shrimp under a popping cork. If you can’t find shrimp, artificial baits such as a soft plastic on a jig head, or a top water plug such as a Mirrorlure Top Dog or Top Pup, will work just as well.
Billy Harrell The Flounder have started showing up in good numbers along the western end of the causeway so look around sandy points that face into the current. Another good place will be around pilings of the docks and boat houses along the bay. Fishing with bull minnows on a Carolina rig is the best bet, but a soft plastic on a jig head works great also. Now is the time to get out and catch fish while the water temperatures are in the 80 degree range. By August the water temperatures will start to get hot and slow g down the trout fishing for the summer.
Also, I would like to thank the contestants and their parents who participated in the annual Youth Fishing Tournament. Fishing was tough due to an incoming tide and a full moon the night before. Everyone stuck it out till the end and we all had a great time and plenty to eat and drink. Lake Forest POA provided the prizes this year which consisted of some very nice rod and reels. Members of ESSA, Steve Jerkin, Mark Turley, John Hampton, and John Myer provided the bait and assisted me in getting everything set up for the event. Thanks again guys. My lovely wife, Gloria, furnished the food, drinks, ice, and cookies! Thanks, dear! Thank you Tony Bono for working for me at the Marina so we could put this fun event on for the kids. Again, thanks to everyone who made this event a success. Till next month, keep a tight line.

Planning for Disability in Retirement By: Drew Wenzel, Caldwell Wenzel & Asthana, PC
Rising life expectancies over the last three decades have significantly increased the population in this country of those over the age of 65. This is a great thing! There are however, some issues that come along with the advancements in medical care that have led to longer life expectancies. Most of us will have to deal with a gradual decline in health at some point and perhaps live a significant portion of our lives with some degree of disability. Sadly, many people end up in situations where disabilities prevent or inhibit taking care of routine business and personal matters, and often get to this point without a clear long term care plan. One way to limit the negative effects in this regard is to have a properly drafted financial durable power of attorney. A financial durable power of attorney allows a person of your choosing to act on your behalf should you become unable to handle your everyday financial affairs. The term “durable” simply means that the power of attorney is intended to remain in effect even if you become incapacitated. Should you fail to execute a durable power of attorney, the state of Alabama has enacted protective legislation in order to provide a mechanism for loved ones to step in and legally act on behalf of an incapacitated person. In Alabama, the Probate Court has jurisdiction of guardianship and conservatorship matters. A guardian in Alabama is someone appointed to make personal decisions such as those with respect to living arrangements and health care. A conservator is a guardian of the estate of the individual and has authority over financial decisions. Guardianship and conservatorship proceedings are often launched simultaneously. Like all court proceedings, the person seeking guardianship and conservatorship must petition the Probate Court and give notice to all interested parties. There will then be a hearing in order to determine the necessity of a guardian which must include an opinion from a physician. The court will also appoint an attorney for the alleged incapacitated person known as guardian ad litem. The guardian ad litem is responsible for representing the interests of the alleged incapacitated person and often prepares a report for the court in the event that the alleged incapacitated person is unable to attend court or unable to provide testimony. Once appointed, the guardian like an agent under a power of attorney, is a fiduciary which means that she has an affirmative duty to act in the best interest of the incapacitated person. Unlike powers of attorney, guardianships and conservatorships are supervised by the court and the guardian and conservator must provide reports and accountings with respect to the subject’s person and estate. The issues associated with aging and long term care are especially relevant in our community in South Baldwin County. Our beautiful landscape and favorable weather makes Baldwin County an excellent place to retire. Often the issues described above are complicated by the fact that retirees in our community may live many miles away from close family members. The need for a plan is not immediately apparent since most of our residents are healthy and happy upon initial retirement. It is vitally important to address as many of these issues associated with long term care and incapacity while still capable and competent to do so. A durable power of attorney is an excellent place to start.
