He and his team have particular strength in education, residential, sports and interior projects in the region. Gavin joined BDP straight from university and he has had the good fortune that nearly all the projects he has worked on have been built. Recent completions have been – Aintree Racecourse, Abito apartments and Devonshire Primary school – all award winners and now The Point hospitality building at the Lancashire Country Cricket Club. What is your biggest personal influence? I think you learn all the time, from everyone – which is why it’s great to work in a big practice with so many clever people. But the core attributes of the architect as a shaper of space and creator of places remain the same.

This company and Gavin in particular stands out to me as their work are all familiar to me and I have seen a few of the designs they have done in person. The work they have developed and designed would have a massive influence in my work and design process. To work with this company would allow my design ideas and processes to expand greatly.

Jackson Architecture Melbourne Level 2 35 Little Bourke street Melbourne VIC 3000 613 9662 3022 info@jacksonarchitecture.com http://www.jacksonarchitecture.com.au/#/home/ Established in Melbourne in 1964 Jackson Architecture is an international practice with offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Shenyang and London. Jackson Architecture has gained an international reputation for high quality consultation based on an ability to synthesise the conflicting demands of creativity, community planning, cost effectiveness and quality design. Jackson Architecture is an interdisciplinary design practice of professional architects, urban, and interior designers. The practice seeks creative solutions to opportunities and problems in the built environment and is motivated by the desire to provide sensitive and stimulating environments that articulate and facilitate all aspects of human encounter and endeavour. We see architecture as both a visionary design medium, and also as a problem solving discipline to which our diverse architectural talents contribute-philosophic and technical; caring and sensible; imaginative and operational. Buildings must be useable, efficient and cost effective. The practice seeks an architecture that expresses time and space, function and originality. Daryl Jackson is passionate about architecture and keen to share his enthusiasm and ideas with the Jackson Architecture team, always seeking to expand design intelligence through a process of exploration and resolution. The working method is prepositional; formal ideas are discussed with clients and the relevant authorities; evaluation and testing is welcomed as a fundamental part of the process. This way of working ensures a distinct identity is established for each project. Our process is one of leadership where we work constructively with our clients and other project stakeholders to reveal, explore, conciliate and express their diverse project objectives, whilst balancing them with community interests and statutory obligations. For us each project

is unique and demands an exceptional response. The result is functional and symbolic, conveying the idiosyncrasies of the complex parts through an ordered and synthesised whole.

Public and peer recognition of the quality of Daryl Jackson's services to architecture has resulted in the award of the RAIA Gold Medal and numerous awards, including the prestigious Sir Zelman Cowen Award (the Australian national award for the most outstanding architectural work) on three occasions. It is the application of the practice's technical and professional knowledge that allows Jackson Architecture to deliver value, and exceed the aspirations, objectives, and quality expectations of our clients. To achieve this we place great emphasis on developing close and cooperative relationships with our clients. Jackson Architecture is the main company that has influenced me the most. I am passionate about the design work. Every project is influential and has an individual approach which is what I want to gain from my design. Making the project unique like Jacksons architectures.

For this purpose, we are in the process of setting up a centralised office for international architecture to manage this work, distinct from the branches that focus on work in the States and Territories. Another significant trend is toward national clients with projects in several cities for which we have established inter-branch cooperatives to provide consistency of service and quality. Above all, we are focused on enhancing our reputation as design thinkers, as value adders both to the public realm of cities and to each project’s economic vitality. Success in architecture is manifest in many ways, for us it is in maintaining a clear design ethos of influences and ideas that can generate diverse solutions responsive to our client’s objectives, whether corporation, community or individual. 2013 will present many challenges particular to a world characterised by changing environmental phenomena, financial conditions and societal interactions.
