G’Day from the penners for March. Our poem for this month is from Karen, it was from a homework subject titled ‘Open Your Bag the Officer Said’ We think she has done a great job and we hope you enjoy it also.

Open your bag the officer said, I just stood there, shaking my head. He gave me a look and squinted his eye, ‘Open your bag there are people in line’.

I opened my bag and clasped the grip, The officer said to me, ‘Let go of it quick’. My heart beat like a drum, the rest of me numb, I’d just remembered what I had done.

It must have shown up in the scan before, Now I couldn’t unhook my gripping claw. The officer nodded to another who took me aside, Unclasping my hand and taking my pride.

My face was red and my eyes did leak, I knew I was now in it deep… What could I say; I knew it was wrong, But it was only a little thing I had done.

I had a little quick on my finger you see, You know how painful a quick can be. I held them in my hand and gave them a snip, And off it came very quick.

I slipped them into my bag without a thought, Now I had bloody well been caught. Those nail scissors were a sleeping gun, It wasn’t even for a bit of fun.

Now I’m that person you don’t want to be, Everyone now knows it was me. Others nodding and whispering thoughts, Shaking their heads, they’re glad they had forethought.
