Meet the future neighbours!

It’s been a pretty good start to the year at Inverleigh Playgroup, with sunny mornings for outdoor play and plenty of new faces. Some of our new families don’t yet live in Inverleigh but have started coming to playgroup to meet local families while their new homes are under construction. It’s nice to see how friendly everyone has been as connections start to develop, and a few have even discovered they’ll soon be next-door neighbours.

Moving to a new town is a big adjustment, so if any other families planning a move to the area would like to meet some locals, please know that you’re welcome to come along to Inverleigh Playgroup too!

Police Report For March 2023

Hello All,

Some panels are again being pulled off the railway building at Inverleigh which is leaving the property very unsightly please discourage any youths from being there. The Teesdale Primary school recently on the holidays had some youths getting on the roof turning off the air conditioners and denting the units. Youth are only allowed to be on the grounds in the company of their parents/guardians and this has apparently been publicised in school newsletters. Both Teesdale and the Inverleigh schools now have cameras in their grounds and offenders have a good chance of being detected and identified.

I have had a report about some birds being found dead possibly shot on properties around the Terrier/Cemetery Road Inverleigh area. People should not be shooting birds and this behaviour can lead to charges and possible loss of firearms and firearm licence.

I detected an 18 yr old probationary driver from a nearby town travelling at excessive speed (158 km/h) on 14/2 around 6.45 pm on the Hamilton Hwy Barunah Plains heading East. There has been a lot of publicity about road safety in various media recently due to the high road toll especially in relation to country roads. Despite this I am still detecting risky behaviours on the road.

I am writing this in mid February and already this month I have caught 3 unlicensed drivers and 3 excessive speeders a 92/60 km/h zone (6 mth licence suspension), 90/60 & 87/60 (3 mth licence suspensions). All were travelling East on Hamilton Hwy Inverleigh coming over the bridge past the camping area.

Last year I issued just over 1000 infringements to drivers on your roads including 31 unregistered vehicles, 17 unlicensed drivers and 51 excessive speeders. I am finding though, in general the speeds of drivers I am detecting are coming down, back in 2017 I caught 141 excessive speeders in a year. In 2017 I detected 700 doing between 15 & 25 km/h over the limit whereas last year I only caught 370 in the same speed bracket. Had a recent report of an abandoned tent on the River Track Inverleigh which I attended & found to be empty. I passed the details onto the council to collect the large tent. I have been noticing a lot more campers/caravans in both camping areas which could be a result of the spirit of Tasmania now berthing at Geelong.

I have recently discovered a shedded snake skin in the yard of the Police station so if attending please be aware there may be a snake somewhere in the grounds. Keep safe
